  1. Jackson commits to TCU. Running low on tackle options out of the ones we have offered.
  2. He’s announcing tomorrow and the crystal balls are flowing in for TCU
  3. Did he mention Aune? I thought I only heard him mention Martin and Kuehne.
  4. Looks like a commit but I don’t see an actual announcement
  5. Commits to Memphis
  6. Littrell coaches under Wilson at Indiana from 2012-2013
  7. Yeah I don’t think his abilities diminished and I get there were factors working against him. Also think some weaknesses in his game were exploited. Hopefully those factors won’t be working against our guys this year, which could be an explanation on why they could have similar numbers without being as good as Fine. I don’t disagree that our expectations should be tempered. I just think we shouldn’t feel as fans like what Fine did here could only be done by him, or that we have hit the ceiling in UNT quarterbacking and we should just accept that. And I’m not attributing those words to you since you didn’t say that, just giving my stance on why I don’t think the next guy has this unwinnable task of following Fine.
  8. Agreed. It’s a balanced modern offense. But it still puts the ball in the air consistently, as MGNation92 referenced from prior years. I don’t know about you, but watching Fine last year it didn’t feel like what he was doing was unreplicable.
  9. I don’t subscribe to that. Fine was a really good college quarterback and it will be hard to replicate his production, however his numbers aren’t Cal Ripken’s consecutive games streak. Fine is our only QB to throw for 3,000 yards since we moved back to the FBS level, but I don’t think that’s because his talent was generational. I think if his talent was generational then NFL teams would have been much more interested. 35 FBS QBs threw for over 3,000 yards last year. We run an air raid. It shouldn’t take a generational talent or conference MVP to put up numbers in an air raid offense in 2020. Alec Morris put up over 1,000 yards in his 4 starts in 2016. If it’s Aune, I do expect over 3,000 yards in a full season and I’d expect close to that for Bean, maybe a little less because we’ll run more with him. Fine’s sophomore and junior numbers will be hard to match but the plays and chances are going to be there for the taking. You’re right that they shouldn’t be held to Fine’s standards right off the bat, but they should be held to the standards of their peers across the country and conference.
  10. Picked up an offer from Kansas yesterday and Colorado State a few days before that.
  11. Thank you. At the least I’m definitely going to continue updating this. Also will probably go back and compare to the Mccarney years. Two things I’m working on trying to incorporate are factoring in experience (starts heading into the season) and figuring out some scale to show these P5 transfers in a way that’s more representative of their market at the time we got them, rather than back when they were high school seniors.
  12. Wait, what? Ohhhhh. Are you referring to the part of our fight song where it goes “U N T Super Awesome Eagles!”
  13. My guess is that on recruiting visits prospective Texas student athletes are not told the story of how the fight song was crafted by students in minstrel shows donning blackface. And, like at Clemson and other schools, the racist aspects of history are hidden. So these guys learn this stuff later on, often after graduating or as a result of some major uproar bringing attention. And, something many people on this board should be able to relate to, these guys love their university as it becomes one of their strongest associations in their life. So, rather than just leave and drop all the relationships and work they have invested the majority of their time on, these guys would rather work to make change they feel is for the better rather than leave because of decisions people made many decades ago. I have a question for anyone who says “if you don’t like ‘X thing about this group’ then why don’t you leave?” For you folks who use this logic, have you guys left every group/team/school/Church/company/etc. in your life that had something you disagreed with or didn’t align with your morals on? If so, did you leave before trying to work to resolve this first?
  14. I put together some research comparing the UNT starting lineups of the Littrell era. The starting lineups were put together using the most common starters of each season. The points system was determined by adding up the offer lists of each player. Each G5 offer was worth 1 point and each P5 offer was worth 1.5 points. For example, a player with 1 P5 offer and 4 G5 offers would count as 5.5 offer points. UNT offers do not count towards these points. 2016 Starters: Offense 57 points/Defense 29 points Total - 86 points 2017 Starters: Offense 30.5 points/Defense 12.5 points Total - 43 points 2018 Starters: Offense 24 points/Defense 13.5 points Total - 37.5 points 2019 Starters: Offense 35 points/Defense 39 points Total - 74 points 2020 Projected Starters: Offense 45.5 points/Defense 48 points Total - 93.5 points Here are a few of my takeaways: • The D1 transfers skewed the lists pretty noticeably. Guys like Trey Keenan in 2016 and D’Andre Plantin and Nick Harvey in 2019 had really good offer lists out of high school but it would have been nice to have a transfer offer list to be more representative of the caliber of player we were actually getting. Similar to how Jalen Guyton’s offer list out of TVCC was a better reference than his offer list out of Allen. • Even though the winning record teams had lower points than the losing record teams, the strengths of the winning record teams was a good mix of highly recruited guys like Guyton and Bussey and lowly recruited guys like Fine and Ejiya. • We have not recruited OL well, especially at the high school level. We need those guys to outperform their offer lists. • 2020 will be the year we really start to see some of these high caliber recruits actually in position to start and make a difference. They’re not all going to pan out, but this should translate into a more talented roster. Coaches need to turn that into wins, especially as these guys gain experience at the D1 level.
  15. For those that want to want to actually learn about the basis of the claim, here’s a really good short video on it. Also, former Mean Green and Longhorn football player Darius Terrell had a comment to make on the subject. And if you look up the original lyrics of “I Been Working on the Railroad” you will get an idea of what he means.
  16. Not sure if he’s still in play for us (guess is he hasn’t been for some time) but he was offered by Ole Miss recently. Maybe our coaching staff feels good about the o-line but our size at tackle is concerning.
  17. I was thinking he may have received honorable mention but he did not. https://meangreensports.com/news/2011/12/7/NT_Has_Seven_Players_Named_All_Conference.aspx?path=football https://sunbeltsports.org/news/2012/12/5/GEN_6670.aspx?path=football https://conferenceusa.com/news/2013/12/10/Football_Places_Three_on_All_Conference_USA_Teams.aspx?
  18. Yeah I was more referring to 2017 when we won despite giving up points and having a line that gave up a lot of pressure. But yeah, I’m really excited about our receiving core.
  19. I have no clue. The thing I keep coming back to is outside receivers. We won previously with a sub par line and we won previously with a defense that gave up points. But last year we didn’t have outside receivers that really scared opposing DCs like we did with Guyton and Bussey. That, to me, is possibly the biggest thing I’m looking at early on, outside of QB play. Can Shorter and Simpson make defenses pay consistently for playing man coverage on the outside? The tools are there, and hopefully they took their lumps as freshmen and can now take off as sophomores like Guyton and Bussey did.
  20. If Littrell could go 5-7 with that 2016 roster then there’s no reason this team shouldn’t be able to win 6 games. Also no reason we shouldn’t be better at QB than we were in 2016.
  21. I don’t know who the blame should be placed on for that. Seems like the coaches were intent on Harvey keeping his spot. Maybe it’s because they didn’t think Gaddie was ready but they thought he was good enough to burn his redshirt for special teams so I’m not sure. We finally have sophomores and redshirt freshmen who were a step above the older players at their position, in terms of profile as a high school recruit. Hopefully we start to see these young guys actually beat out older players for the job instead of just falling in line like they have been. Even Alabama and Clemson have underclassmen beating out seniors and juniors.
