  1. I would need to go through and watch to say confidently, but from memory it is a combination. I don’t think he has a lot of confidence in his arm strength (against FBS DBs), and I don’t think the coaches do either. With Bean even more so than Aune, the first read is very frequently Jaelon Darden, often in the flats. And when it isn’t, he seems to be happy to check down. Which, if that’s gonna be the case, I think we have to run Bean more when he’s in or the predictability is just too high.
  2. These are Bean’s career passing stats against FBS opponents: 26/45 (57.8%) for 205 yards (4.56 yards/attempt) and 4 TDs/4 INTs. The turnovers aren’t great but also the yards/attempt number is pretty paltry. And Saturday it was even lower at 3.22 yards/attempt, granted he only threw 9 passes.
  3. It hasn’t worked here. It’s hard to find d-linemen at the G5 level who can consistently take on double teams and prevent o-linemen from combo blocking up to the LBs. We have one in Novil but that’s it and even for him it doesn’t seem like that’s the best situation for him. Maybe he’d be better off at his playing weight from last year because he doesn’t seem to be coming off the ball like he needs to if he wants to be drafted.
  4. Sure. I’d have to re-watch the game, but so often it felt like our missed tackles were LBs in the hole fighting off a block and trying to make a tackle because our d-linemen couldn’t keep the o-line off our LBs, a safety coming from across the field, or a DB sitting in a hole while the RB had a full head of steam. We did an awful job tackling last night, but we need to figure out how much of that was poor technique and how much was our guys being put in tough situations.
  5. I’m tired of seeing our d-linemen getting doubled into our LBs laps, then seeing that 5th DB come in to make the tackle after 10+ yard gains. I know it’s a passing league, I know it’s easier to get good DB recruits than D-Line recruits as a G5 school, but the 3-3-5 hasn’t worked and it feels like our players are constantly in positions where they are on their heels and in 3rd and shorts, if they even get to 3rd down. Maybe even a 4-2-5 might make more sense if teams’ bases are 11 personnel. We have recruited well the last couple of years defensively, so I refuse to believe we don’t have players on our roster who we can put together a semblance of a competent defense with. Littrell shouldn’t be afforded the luxury of burning through D Coordinators. He needs to worry about getting it right with this one first, and try whatever it takes to get it right instead of just saying he’s an offensive coach and needs a new D coordinator.
  6. True Freshman DB Tavorice Weaver has been removed from the roster
  7. Hope we can take advantage of it being our third game while it’s their first.
  8. All 5 crystal ball predictions on 247 now have him going to SMU
  9. In 2021 they will for the current seniors coming back. The question is beyond that.
  10. There was a running backs article on Mean green 247 a month or two ago. Sounds like we are no longer recruiting him
  11. They couldn’t do that unless the NCAA also raised the scholarship limit of 25 per class. I would say this issue could really help G5 programs because their seniors would be much more likely to come back for another year than P5 seniors who would rather enter the draft. But yeah, having to not renew scholarships would not be ideal. Especially if it’s a situation where you renew some but not others. Bringing Jacob Brammer and Manase Mose back for 6th seasons but not bringing back Chris Thornton, for example, would not look great. But it also could be more common if that is something everyone is facing.
  12. The NCAA allowing players who play in the fall to essentially have a free season looks like it may complicate things down the line from a scholarship standpoint. Next year, players who are currently seniors who elect to come back for another senior season next year will reportedly be exempt from the scholarship team limit of 85. Currently, by my unofficial breakdown of the roster, we have 77 players on scholarship, with 12 being seniors. If everyone who is not a senior chose to stay for next season, that would give us 20 spots this class, and potentially up to as many as 24 to account for players leaving the team (1 spot already gone to Ikaika Ragsdale). Where this really gets tricky is not with players coming back for another senior season, but juniors and below getting extra seasons. Let’s say between the current juniors and below on the team plus the 2021 signees bring us to 85 scholarships not including seniors coming back. Then what would we do for the 2022 class? 85 guys who technically will still have eligibility for the 2022 season, how do you sign another class on top of that and still stay under the 85 scholarship limit? Does the NCAA raise the scholarship limit beyond next season? As a head coach, do you start being more aggressive in not renewing scholarships for guys who don’t see the field much? Do you make a rule where you give guys 5 years counting this season, and if they’re still eligible (i.e. guys who have redshirted) you ask them to play elsewhere if they want to continue playing college football? A lot of questions and hard to imagine how it will all shake out. And the coaches are having to ask themselves these questions right now as they figure out how many players to sign this class.
  13. https://247sports.com/Player/Trevon-West-46049156/high-school-207233/ This is his brother, true freshman receiver at OU. Had 4 catches for 59 yards last week in his college debut. Buttt if he ever wanted to come back home...
  14. Didn’t Gaddie end up starting even though he was listed behind Rucker last week?
  15. Really hoping we land him because we have seen a lot of our guard targets commit elsewhere this summer like Kaleb Stewart and RJ Keene.
  16. I think we would be if not for COVID. Those guys you mentioned are only 4 backs, which is pretty thin for number of scholarship backs. With Torrey, Smith, and Johnson being seniors and Siggers being a junior, we would need more than just those 4 you mentioned. But with COVID everyone gets an extra year so less of an immediate need for bolstering the depth there.
  17. Not CUSA but Texas Tech is leading HBU 21-10 after stopping HBU on a 4th and goal from the 1. Zappe has 242 passing yards at halftime. He was sacked on the last drive by Eli Howard, the last remaining FBS player from a Dan Mccarney roster.
  18. Has to help our chances that we will be playing our 3rd game while they will be playing their 1st when we meet. Edit: They will play Baylor instead, so we will be their 2nd opponent.
  19. How is that ridiculous? This is a separate topic and doesn’t belong in a recruit’s thread. Definitely don’t understand how you think this is petty. The conversations are there in their entirety and can be continued without cluttering a recruit’s thread. You want to discuss Varkeyes Gumms, you do it in his thread. You want to discuss why you think it is important for fans to tweet at recruits, you do it here. Different threads for different discussions. Not complicated.
  20. Again, these are going to get hidden if they keep flooding this thread. Clearly this topic is very near and dear to you and others. I suggest starting another thread to discuss your favorite topic to your heart’s content.
