If McNulty does not win the 1st or 2nd QB spot in the spring does he get moved to DB or WR before the fall? From the sounds of it, Kayden Kirby has shown that he will be in the mix at center as well.

Star-Telegram football Super Team offense and defense
CurveItAround replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Hard to believe he doesn't show up on the recruiting sites. Assuming there is not some reason for the lack of activity with this guy, seems like a no brainer to go after him. -
Not sure if this is the same video, but here is a video from HUDL. #77 on your program. http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1036770/#highlights/23264416

2013 Recruiting Home Stretch
CurveItAround replied to CurveItAround's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Thanks for updating your list Harry. I was somehow overlooking that list and didn't realize you had already put this information together. Thanks for the reminder link. What about the gray shirts from last year, Tucker and Hines? Do we know if they are going to enroll/sign? -
I noticed him listed as a DT on ESPN. Maybe I just missed it previously. Seems like a serviceable DT based on small sampling from video. The pickings are pretty slim at that position so far this year for us and unless someone falls in our lap, he may have to do for now.

This kid shows up as an OL in most of the places I have looked, but the recruiting video I found shows him at DT, and looks pretty good. http://www.ihigh.com/kimballknights/video_903163.html He has some interest from big 12 schools, but only we have offered according to Rivals. http://rivals.yahoo.com/northtexas/football/recruiting/player-Victor-Howell-121027;_ylt=Al2OPo1OXge7zX_qCyUmY.zNSMJ_

As we enter the last 4-5 weeks of recruiting, I thought it might be helpful to summarize where we are based on all the prior posts and announcements. Please speak up if you see something that is incorrect. Coach Mac mentioned in one of his end of season press conferences that he is planning to target a certain number of recruits at each position in addition to the transfers he already has lined up. Based on the early verbal commitments from the summer, plus the recent JUCO signing period, we have 10 HS players that have given verbal commitments plus the 4 JUCO signees. Here is a link to ESPN that lists 13 of these players (ESPN list is missing juco signee, Quentin Brown, DE, 6'3" 230, and HS verbal Sergio Medina, DB, 6'0" 210) ESPN link: http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/school/_/id/249/north-texas Assuming the recruits follow through on their verbal commitments and sign in February, so far we have: 0 ATH - goal of 2 5 OL - goal of 4-5 1 DL - goal of 3 3 LB - goal of 3 2 WR - goal of 3-4 1 QB - goal of 1 3 DB - goal of 3-4 0 RB - goal of 0 ------------------------ 15 - goal of 20-21 In addition to the HS/JUCO recruiting, we have the following transfers Darius Terrell, WR Reggie Pegram, RB Brock Berglund, QB Carl Caldwell, WR (xfer, but not sure if receiving scholly) Zed Evans, DB (xfer, but not sure if receiving scholly) Any other transfers we know about?? Plus, we had two players that were gray shirted out of the 2012 class. Not sure if they are still around and if they will enroll full time and receive their scholarship in the spring, but if they do receive scholarship, they will count against our limit of 25. Andrew Tucker, RB Christian Hines, WR If the numbers are all correct, it looks like we are still looking for a couple of D linemen, a couple of athletes, and 1-2 WRs/DBs. Here's hoping that as the music starts stopping in the next few weeks, we can shake out several 3 star recruits when they realize the power conference scholarship isn't going to materialize. edit: added Medina

Is it really possible that this guy is for real? He is 6'1", 210lbs, runs a 4.55 40, has a 36" vertical, a 3.78 gpa, benches 400lbs, and is only a 2 star recruit with offers from non power conference schools. Unless his Rivals data is all wrong, this guy looks he would be a truck at safety. http://rivals.yahoo.com/northtexas/football/recruiting/player-Jeffrey-Canady-101121;_ylt=AnfEQ22_QLWmQRURL8M6vEPNSMJ_

Here is a link to a Google map that shows Gang of 5 FBS conferences laid out and color coded on a map so that it is easy to visually see where the conference memebers are located. You may have to zoom in/out to adjust the display level. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&msa=0&msid=217768008643381202827.0004d19dc64c7e4c49bd7

Yep. Kind of my point. I was trying to be generous on listing us as the favorite in a few of those games. Maybe 2-3 games you look at and say we will be a favorite in (even if only a small favorite), but in several games we will likley be 1-9 point dogs, plus a couple of double digit dogs. Not that we can't win some of those games, but we will be fighting an uphill battle and will have to prove people wrong about us next year if we want to win 6 or more games (and I sure hope we do). Am I remembering incorrectly that Johnny Jones had only been and assistant, plus a sub .500 record as an interim HC stint at Memphis, followed by another assistant job? He did not exactly set the world on fire when he first started at UNT, but there was not much place to go but up. He finally got his sea legs and turned out to be really good for us. I really wish Benford could have hit the ground running this season, but it looks like the players Johnny left were not quite as complete and fundamentally sound as we thought they were and Benford still has a bit to learn to handle players. I still think JJ's open style contributed to the inconsistency we would see from his teams and inexplicable losses at times (but when they were on, man it was nice). You can kind of compare it to the spread offenses versus a little more grind it out style of McCarney. The spread offenses (JJ) show they can beat almost anyone when everything goes right, but lesser teams can sneak up and beat too many times when you are not clicking on offense. Also, the slow, grind it out (if that truly is Benford's style) style can look ugly when it doesn't work, but as long as you can recruit the athletes, it is a less risky strategy and is built on fundamentals. Personally, I see some similarities with early Johnny Jones and Benford. I really get the feeling Benford is in tune with the AAU scene and knows how to recruit (similar to JJ). I think recruiting is potentially more important than X's and O's in the long run for the head coach (as long as he isn't a complete knucklehead). I think he can get help with schemes and in-game management from his assistants, but if he can keep a steady stream of talent coming through here, he will figure it out and even overcome a perceived lack of strategery. At least I hope so. While someone like Fraschilla MAY HAVE HAD better short term success, my fear would have been that he was only here for the short term and would not have made the commitment to recruiting to ensure long term success (especially with his ESPN safety net). Going in that direction could have also been detrimental to our program (maybe more so in the long run), we just might not have realized it right away. Hard to say for sure, but that is what my gut tells me.

Hoops practice facility , Scoreboard update
CurveItAround replied to NT03's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Do we expect some game time production with the new vidjea boards. I am thinking actual replays, relevants stats, music during timeouts, etc... It would be great experience for RTVF students and help spice up the presentation of the games as well. Maybe get Humble Billy to moonlight on the mic. DEFENSE....DEFENSE.... -
Assuming that the conference schedule is accurate based on opponents and location, which games would we likely be favored in? Idaho - favorite @Ohio - underdog Ball St - favorite? @Georgia - double digit dog Vs UTEP - favorite? Vs Tulane - favorite Vs Rice - underdog Vs FIU - favorite @ UTSA - favorite @ Tulsa - double digit dog @ Southern Miss - underdog @ La. Tech - underdog

Thankfully, the world wide intertubes have resolved this issue for most. Good ol' KNTU is now worldwide.
-
TBD, I don't think Harry wasy trying to show the timing/order of the potential conference games, just the home/away location based on the premise that we would be stepping in to SMU's conference schedule from 2009.

I smell a large amount of W's and a bowl in 2013

But if it wasn't for the new blood and optimism it would be...um...how you say...um...mean and green around here. Go Mean Green. One of these years it's going to happen. -
Man, any doubt the the two QBs for ULL and ECU look 'different'?

The problem isn't heart or Benford
CurveItAround replied to eppy4life's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I doubt Benford is doing anything different than what he has seen first hand from other successful coaches. His interpretation may leave a little to be desired, but I put a little faith in his assistant coaches to help keep him between the lines. A battle of wills goes on any time a new coach/boss comes in and starts changing the rules. The star employees tend to convince themselves that they don't need to change be amuse they have been successful in the past. Funny thing though, sometimes when you open your mind to new ideas, you learn something. Hopefully the coaches and players are both learning from the past few weeks and are ready to start working together instead pulling in opposite directions. It takes a little give and take from both sides sometimes. -
I thought TM looked about as engaged as he has all year, at least for a little while, which is a longer than several games. It would surprise me if they have been holding full practice before games all year. However it would not surprise me if based on poor level of play lately that they held a few extra practices to make up for lost time over finals week. They certainly needed to do something.

?? Robinson left after he only got in 16 games and was averaging less than 6 minutes a game. Odoh left because JJ took him. Unless I missed something, these two players left because of JJ.

Seems we had the 6' 10", #7 power forward in the state of Texas last year too. What school does he play for now?

Dear lord we cannot shoot. We should not shoot with more than 5 seconds on the clock to prevent the other team from having the ball.
