  1. How much does ASU pay their head coach vs how much do we pay ours?
  2. It is kind of odd. You would think it creates heated rivalries and interest, but instead it results in attempted class separation. Look at Pac 12 and it is the exact opposite. Every team in the league has a local neighbor. The SEC also started out with a lot of closely located teams, but has spread out a little over the years.
  3. +1 Heck at this point, the only advice I could offer is to not go into the Police'n or Firefight'n business. It seems to have a negative impact on your view of current UNT Athletics! Somehow, I can look at those same items and see a different view of the current state of affairs, especially football. Basketball is a different animal, but when I see everyone trying to lay this 100% at the feet of the new coach, I have to call BS. I see several players way under achieving based on their ability and I think they should be held accountable as well. It is 98% fire Benford on here, so I try to offer an alternate opinion. Wouldn't want everyone on here agreeing all the time. How fun would that be?
  4. It ain't the message it's the delivery.
  5. Shawn McKinney interview: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=8346208 Geez. That's a big dude.
  6. Sed looks to be a very solid add. htttp://www.prepforce.com/video/2965
  7. Not sure how much of the following link is behind the pay wall, but ESPN reporting that Manges is head to Wake Forest. http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/ncfrecruiting/midlands/post/_/id/5400/te-corey-manges-headed-to-the-acc
  8. There has to be a back story on this kid or you would think UK, UL and others would be all over him.
  9. Can't we all just get along? Pulling for Derek. Pulling for Brock. Battle royale and UNT wins!
  10. You guys are right, as usual. This guy sucks. Here is his crappy youtube video where he also claims to bench 405lbs. We probably couldn't get him anyway, he already has an offer from Eastern Kentucky. Looks like he plays RB, WR, S, LB, and P (48 yd avg). Absolutely not the type of guy we could use around here. Good riddance Mr. Canady, you are not welcome here! 11. 0% chance we have any interest in this kid. I just posted what Rivals reported. No assumptions here. Just thought it was odd.
  12. http://www.insiderunnersports.com/football/articles/tanzel-smart-dt-update Plus, I think I saw one of the recuiting services where we were listed as something like 'cool' where others were 'warm', but who really knows at this point.
  13. I saw him listed on one service or maybe an LA newspaper as 6-0. Either way though. If he can play, he can play. Edit: http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/news/_/id/140724/tanzel-smart
  14. Smart might be a little undersized, but he is still pretty highly rated. I am sure the dream scenario for the coaches is getting both Smart and Walker, but both seem to be leaning away from UNT. Hopefully we can get at least one of them.
  15. I hope most of these HS kids are headed for a redshirt.
  16. The only reason I even posted his info is because he is listed as having a 400lb bench press, which is unheard of out of a DB. Assuming that is real, coupled with his height, weight, decent speed and vertical, he would be an interesting prospect. Based on the lack of interest from the major programs, his measurables may not be accurate. I didn't have lunch pail or coach's son checked in the search filter.
  17. If we are intent on getting two more DLinemen, then you would think that Doddy, Woods, and Antoine are all in the mix for the remaining spot. Any of those three would be good gets for us.
  18. Thompson's name has come up a couple of times about switching back to DT. If he is capable, it certainly would add some size. This brings up a question. Why aren't more offensive guards converted to DT? There are way more kids that are 6'4", 275lbs+ that are listed as OL than there are DT's listed with that same size. Is the transition really that difficult? It would seem that size and strength would be the biggest prerequisite, rather that where you played a couple of years in high school. Maybe we could recruit a couple of offensive guards and teach them how to play DT?
  19. Using Harry's recruiting list as a guide and adding the 2 grayshirts (Tucker - RB and Hines - WR): So far in this class we have: 2 - QB 5 - DB 5 - OL 4 - WR 3 - LB 2 - RB 1 - DL --------- 22 If we keep all of our commits, it looks like we are probably down to adding 2 more D linemen plus 1 other (hopefully a big/fast/strong ATH type).
  20. We are going to have 3 CB's on the field a lot I suspect. If nobody leaves the program, we will have 17 returning DB's plus the new guys. If the secondary is not better than last year, something is terribly wrong.
  21. Didn't see where anyone had posted a video of this guy. Sorry if a duplicate. He looks a little raw, but he is a big, strong, pretty fast kid that we are recruiting as an athlete. It is always nice to have some former QBs sprinkled around the field. Currently only North Texas and TxSt have offered based on info I found, but there are several that are looking at him. edit: Rivals lists him at 6'4", 190lbs, 4.5 40 http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Aaron-Doddy-140876;_ylt=AkVuxkLrw_Ad9K87fhHYxwdIPZB4 ESPN video: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=7940755
  22. wouldn't mind seeing us actually list the nickel back position on the depth chart since it is needed so often. It is not an uncommon practice.
  23. I doubt he gets any action at center. Maybe can get him to walk on? If accurate, his strength numbers sound intriguing. Found this recruiting page/video. http://www.ncsasports.org/football-recruiting/tx/china-spring/china-spring-high-school/brian-pullen
  24. Found this blurb from ESPN that discussed several Kimball players. There was a reference to Victor Howell. DT Victor Howell: While Manning gets a lot of the ink, Howell has been a solid contributor to the defensive line, as well. At 6-2 and 280 pounds, Howell brings strength and a mean streak to the Knights’ defense. He had 54 tackles and three sacks and is getting looks from Baylor, TCU and North Texas. I like the mean streak part. We need some nasty. edit: It looks like the article I pulled this excerpt from was written in the spring of 2012, prior to Howell's senior season. Here's hoping that so much attention was focused on Manning that Howell flew under the radar.
  25. Read an article behind a pay wall about this kid from China Spring. Was 1st team all district at center. According to the article, he benches 400 pounds and squats 650. These are numbers associated with much higher rated recruits on the dline. He is only 6'1"/285 so he knows he has to switch to dline if he has a chance at a scholly. Supposedly getting lots of looks, but no offers yet. Sounds like a solid player to offer to walkon or if we somehow end up with an unused scholly. Really like the strength numbers. So many of the kids this size coming from HS struggle with posting 350/550 bench/squat numbers which won't get it done at this level. Sounds a lot like the the Victor Howell kid we offered from Kimball. Most interested in UNT, SMU, and Baylor.
