I believe the Ark governor has some history with or taken a shine to ArkSt and has been drumming up a lot of support for them recently. ArkSt fan can surely clear this mystery up.

Is there really a spell checker? I have never noticed an option for spell checking when posting. -

Who should fill our recruiting class?
CurveItAround replied to BillySee58's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Victor Howell is still out there and would be a couple years down the road type of DT. Tanzel Smart has visit scheduled with Tulane on 1/18 according to rivals. If we are signing a DT currently on the radar, one of those two may be the most likely. Of course there is always the chance that we offer a non qualifier DT stud not currently on the radar and hope that he qualifies over the summer. -
If the nBE decides to move to 16 and somehow the MWC decides it needs to follow suit, I could see one of their best options to be inviting UTEP, UTSA, Rice, and UNT (assumption is SMU, UH, and Tulsa in nBE). I really don't see either of them feeling the need to go to 16, but if MWC wanted to establish a Texas foothold, it is probably easier to go to 16 than 14. You really have 2 different conferences at that point though and it will be tough to keep everyone happy. I think it is way more likely the MWC stays at 12, but UNT in the MWC with three other Texas schools would be our best case scenario at this point.

I definately agree but, let me give you some advise. Irregardless of what people post on this board I try not to loose my prespective because I could care less. I have literally just learned to except it and move on. Some people are just wierd and you can't do anything about there mispelling and gramar weather you agree with them or not. Its not like you're corrections are going to effect them alot in the longrun. You might as well just accomodate them and make them feel at home by giving them posting priviledges rather then chastize them.- 152 replies

Damn, that's some funny stuff. And shows some real commitment to a cause. As someone pointed out earlier, if this does not wreak of some pretty tasty twittering, someone is framing an innocent man.

I agree that it is pretty darn confusing. However, the way I try to break it down is to look to see if a player is currently receiving non academic financial aid in the current calendar year, but were not receiving non academic financial (from unt) aid at any point in the prior calendar year. If they are, then they count as one of the 25 maximum players that can receive non academic financial aid during the current calendar year. As GrayEagle points out, if we are retaining our scholarship players we may not be able to offer 25 new scholarships due to the 85 maximum. In terms of why we are saying we are only planning to sign 20 new players, even though we are more than 25 scholarships under the max of 85, I interpreted this as 20 new players (counting Berglund since he began the year enrolled in JUCO and will technically be a JUCO signee), plus transfers that will be receiving financial aid starting in January (Terrell, Pegram, others such as Caldwell?). Plus, the potential of the two greyshirts from last fall or possibly the plan to convert a walkon to scholarship status. When you add all of these up, I would expect the number to total 25 new financial aid packages to be added 2013. Now that we are getting close to the full compliment of 85 scholarship players, we may not be able to sign the full limit of 25 new players depending on how many scholarship players graduate, attrition, medical releases, etc.. Medical releases are a growing area of abuse by some programs, especially the big programs. The coach comes in and tells a player that he is being granted a medical release so he will no longer be playing for the school, but he will still receive scholarship to finish out his degree. The program recoups the scholarship 'spot' so they can sign new players. Effectively, the 'injured' player is kicked off the team. Many times the 'injured' player could recover if given the time. There are also plenty of examples where coaches strongly 'suggest' that a player not return for the following season, but this is getting into the shady side of this business where it is probably best that the general public does not know everything about what goes on. Kind of like knowing the entire process of where the meat in the grocery stores come from.

I thought there has been discussion where the general consensus was that CUSA was going to be ok with adding just UNT. Before that occurred, FIU started getting talked up from the eastern schools and it was decided that the 2 would be added. However, the MWC then decided to put the WAC out of business and asked for assistance from CUSA by taking LaTech and UTSA or TxSt. At that point, the eastern schools demanded 2 eastern schools to offset LaTech/UTSA. The result was ODU/Charlotte (but others were considered). And that is how CUSA went from potentially adding 1 school to adding 6. At least that is the way that I have heard the story.

In terms of NCAA I believe the following is true: 85 total players receiving financial aid at any point during a given calendar year. 25 total players in a given calendar year can start receiving financial aid that were not receiving financial aid in the previous calendar year (does not matter if they are JUCO recruit, HS recruit, transfer, or walk on that converts to scholly) 28 total number of players that can sign a letter of intent (but max of 25 can actually receive financial aid when all is said and done). NCAA placed limit of 28 to help curb oversigning. Not the same as verbal offers/commits. Technically, we have only formally signed an actual agreement with a few JUCO players and we may have already signed agreements to provide financial aid to some of the transfers. However, we have extended verbal offers (non binding) and received verbal commitments (non binding) from several players to the point where, unless something changes, we are under the impression that we only have 3 more scholarships availble to hand out for this year.

So by not choosing one over the other, we allowed both to survive? Sounds like a pretty respectable thing to do.

If UNT knew (or felt that it was very likely) that we would get into CUSA in the near term, why would we want to add in state teams to a regional conference that we were confident we were leaving? It is entirely possible that CUSA was even encouraging us not to assist the SBC by adding high growth potential programs. There are just way to many variables to know what was going on at the time.

Until a power conference goes to 16 and gets the semi final game waiver, I will be surprised to see any league to try 16 again. It failed miserably the first time it was tried and there has not been any conference show any serious interest since. I am not convinced that a Gof5 conference will be the first to re-enter the 16 memeber conference model.

Maybe we should use more than the last two years to form an opinion? If so, ArkSt's and UL's football 'history' are not nearly as vaunted as you like to continually suggest. Time will tell.

Don't know if it is just a coincidence, but it sure seems to me that since PJ has taken over at the point, the ball movement seems to be much better. He seems to be much more of a distribute first mentality so the ball doesn't stop when it hits his hands in ball rotation. Seems to keep the other guys more engaged.

Shows to have an offer from UNT per the Rivals link Harry posted. Looks like KState also had interest. I don't remember seeing this kid on our radar on Rivals previously. Maybe an indication of Coach Snyder telling Coach Mac that he needs to get on this kid. -

... There was one correction to the Class 3A team released on Tuesday. Jerquis Beasley was listed as an honorable mention player from West Orange-Stark, but Beasley did not play football for the Mustangs this year and was listed on the ballot in error. ... http://panews.com/sports/x964852672/Five-Port-Arthur-Memorial-Titans-named-to-AP-Class-5A-All-State-team I don't know if he played for a different team or something, but evidently he did not play for WO-S.

I think he was offered during the summer. He made honorable mention, but I believe was later removed because he was on the ballot by mistake. Evidently, he did not play football this season for some reason. Not sure what the story was.

Amid defections and uncertain TV deal; Is SMU still committed?

I would say the same but it amazes me how the eastern schools claim that Florida schools are a requirement. Shows how out of touch we are with the eastern schools.- 16 replies
