UNT adds two tight ends to commitment list
CurveItAround replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Pretty sure Vito said 3 years to play 2. -
I am beginning to cool on the idea of replacing a western division loss with an eastern addition. Do that a couple of times and we are right back where we were in terms of regional competition. Unless we go to 16 (not a real fan of 16), WKU may not be in our best interest at this time.
-
Only if they win some of those games. Otherwise, the fans will be in full blown panic mode by mid season.

The ODU addition to conference play in 2014 makes sense. If Tulsa leaves, their replacement can start in 2015 to coincide with Charlotte football.

North Texas Can't Accept Losing Anymore
CurveItAround replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
The frustrating thing is that 3 of the teams on the list that year all went bowling this year. San Jose State(11 wins), Western Kentucky(7 wins), Bowling Green(8 wins). Damn. -
LSU fan with a question about Johnny Jones

Is he a cop? -
The ULM loss was unforgiveable. The ULL loss was awful. If those two were switched to wins along with a couple of others, the whole season looks different. However, as someone else pointed out previously, IF my aunt had nuts, she would be my uncle. That's why we play the games.

Agreed. 8 great games by the players. 12 crappy games by the players. Nice win tonight. edit: Really 7 or 8 crappy games, and 4-5 where we were probably outmatched. Hopefully everyone's feelings can be soothed and the coaches and players get on the same page and trust/respect each other. We just need max effort and the talent should overcome whatever perceived/real lack of coaching ability. All of the players are not bringing it night in and night out. Blame whoever you want, but fact. #seeingisbelieving

The 'beginning to worry' was in reference to GMG'ers, not Benford. He is in his own category, but I tend to wait until the end of the season to reflect.

Some of you should seek counseling for your obsession with Benford. I am beginning to worry.

We are gonna be REALLY embarrassed
CurveItAround replied to emmitt01's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Although I started the season leaning toward supporting managment (coaches) over workers (players), I a beginning to accept that I am not smart enough to figure out which is the root cause. From what I have witnessed so far, neither is turning out to be much to brag about. Therefore, I am willing to part with BOTH Tonys at the end of the year if the team results don't improve by the end of the season. I have been extremely disappointed in the results produced from BOTH Benford and Mitchell so far. #theyhaveBOTHsucked #andthrowCJintherealso I expected these guys to be our leaders, not our dead weight. -
What would happen if UTA-UNT played now?

Nothing set in stone as far as I have seen, but Banowsky indicated that he hopes to have them finalized by 1. Today's announcement regarding MTSU and FAU should clear things up.

McMurphy: MTSU and FAU will join CUSA this Fall
CurveItAround replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I agree with your response. We, in Texas, scratch our head at the Florida schools and write them off an meaningless. The east coast teams go on and on about how they view the Florida schools as much more valuable that UNT. It's just an east coast thing. As long as we have 14 team in the conference, we only have to make one trip a year to the east so no big deal. If we could only keep the conference as it is currently constructed for next year...- 34 replies

Do you think he would be willing to change the name of his band to The Mean Green?

Free video feed is working pretty well at FIU's site.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a couple of these fireplugs signed. Strength is such a big factor at that position. According to the Texas HS Powerlifting Association, his best squat last spring was 650, best bench was 400, and best dead lift was 620. Looks like he lifted last spring at a body weight normally between 315lbs - 320lbs. His best meet total of 1650 was good for 8th best in the state across all classifications in super heavy weight classs and 16th best in the state regardless of weight class.

Yep. The reporters words not mine. I simply provided some info about NSMU for those not so inclined. Would not be my choice as stated previously. Reality is that there are no adds that will move the needle for everyone, or even anyone.
-
This guy seems to think NMSU might be next up. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/fau-owls/sfl-fau-not-jumping-to-cusa-for-13-yet-20130116,0,7646687.story That would be a little out of left field, but would provide olys the ability to kill two birds with one stone when travelling to El Paso. Las Cruces is a decent sized metro area and NMSU is pretty respected academically and nationally ranked (#189 USNWR), 18,000 students, $150mm endowment, $150mm in research grants, establishes presence in new state, and already has a rivalry with UTEP. Not sure if it will happen, but I guess nothing surprises at this point. When MTSU and FAU were added the rumor at the time was WKU and NMSU were next in line. Maybe there was something to the rumors.

I still think leaving the Belt will help our image even if a few former Belt teams are making the move with us. The more years that the Belt is in the rear view mirror the better. If we take care of business it will make the next move that much easier. If we can build some success on the field along with getting the J.D. and M.D. program established and hopefully eventually consolidate operations under the same name and administrative umbrella, I believe the perception of UNT could change quite a bit.
-
I can't agree more, that is why personally I prefer TxSt. It may not be the right thing to do for various other reasons, but I care more about seeing us beat them than WKU or anyone else that CUSA could potentially add. Unfortunately, I think WKU is the current frontrunner. If this ends up being the case and they slide UAB over to the west division, it still does nothing for me. USM is about as far east as I am interest in sharing a division with.
-
It seems like the writing is already on the wall for the next membe to be WKU. They provide solid basketball, improving football, and good other oly sports. TxSt, ArkSt, and ULL would meet with opposition from a basketball standpoint and some would meet with opposition from a geography standpoint. Selfishly, I think I would prefer TxSt, but I voted WKU because I think they will be the next added if someone leaves. TxSt, ArkSt, and ULL all have their pluses and minuses. If the basketball schools have their way, NMSU could be a sleeper.
