  1. This times infinity. If you want to effect change within your team, you have to show that the inmates are not running the asylum. If you want to play, then you will pay attention to the little things which help the team win games, not just the things that help you personally build individual stats. This is why I believe Coach Mac will ultimately be successful and also why he rubs so many of the 'me' generation the wrong way. We didn't get in this mess overnight and we sure won't get out of it overnight.
  2. Who says we don't have t-shirt fans? We must be ahead of schedule.
  3. I had no issue with the decision to kick the field goal in that situation. Fortunately Zach came through and cut the lead to 4. At some point, you have to be able to count on the defense to step up. Unfortunately, the secondary has been exposed badly as the season has gone on.
  4. Good grief. The fact that this conversation even has to occur proves that we are still dealing with 'young adults' that are trying to test their boundaries to learn the difference between right and wrong. The school fight song is no place for something like this. It is inappropriate. Period. Grow up. C'MON MAN!
  5. Take it with a grain of salt, but the guy working the merch table at the game said they were expecting the #13 jerseys soon, along with he thought #5 jerseys. I hope he is right.
  6. You're probably right, but I noticed there are 24 sections in the lower bowl and 32 sections in the upper bowl. Not sure how many seats are in each of the upper bowl sections, but the average size section in the lower bowl seemed about 150-175 seats based on my count the other night. I actually made an honest attempt to count the crowd the other night during yet another 'official' time out. No worries though. Can't wait for the real games to start. GMG
  7. Well, I wouldn't want to question those of you that have such a good feel for the numbers, but it sure seemed to be less than half of the lower bowl to my eyes and there can't be more than around 4,000 seats in the lower bowl. No, matter though. I like the sound of the higher number. Team looked great, but IMO they will need a big man to help out in the middle to handle the better teams. I hope everything works out with Coleman. Looking forward to the season.
  8. If you have ever been around many coaches, regardless of sport, they are all built the same way. Stubborn as hell. Make no mistake, a team is no place for a democracy. There has to be one decision maker, and decision makers don't like being second guessed.
  9. But I thought it was pretty much agreed on the board that Mac did not know how to prepare his team and probably isn't doing anything to have them ready for the games. Man, it's getting hard to keep up with whether he does/doesn't know what he is doing...
  10. But there was not anyone at the gates, how would they know a number?
  11. I could be off, but I was estimating about 1,500 people. The lower bowl looked a little less than half full to me.
  12. Yep. Pretty much sums it up, especially the smu-hp stuff. Quite possibly, your best post.
  13. Here are the high school QBs on our roster along with the depth chart for this weekend: Derek Thompson John Dodson Andrew McNulty Ivan Delgado (8,000 yds/70tds passing in 3yrs) Jeremy Phillips (1,538yds/14tds passing and 1,223yds/12 tds rushing as senior) Cooper Jones (2,418 yds/29tds passing as senior) Jordan Gill Derrick Teagarden (4,000yds/42tds passing 1,600yds/19tds rushing as Jr/Sr) Brock Berglund (in Brent Osborn jersey) Brent Osborn (unless DT goes down to injury, then BO is in)
  14. Sorry if this has been posted, but the only thing I have seen references Vito's remarks about Osborn graduating/moving on. At the very end of the Mac press conference, a question was posed if there would be any thought to getting Osborn some reps at QB , he replied directly with no, not unless there is an injury.
  15. Surely someone has invented gyro fat in a can for desperate times like these.
  16. It seems like you box yourself into a corner if you put a specific timeframe on it. I would say he should and will get at least 3 years, but after that it depends on how things are going that are not just about W's, although W's make it a little easier to judge. He went 5-7 last year and will finish this year somewhere between 3-9 and 7-5. Next year who knows. If he wants to make the decision easy, wins will help a lot. If the wins don't come then he is going to have to show perceivable improvement in other areas. I hope that he is still coaching here in 10 years. That will mean something is going right. Constant coach churning really hurts programs because players tend to leave before their 4 and 5 years, plus players are having to learn new systems. Since we are not the type of program that has shown the ability to recruit lots of 3 star, 4 star and 5 star players, we have to develop them. That takes time. If players are leaving after 2 or 3 years, you never see them reach their full potential. I used the Rivals website to find the the players that signed NLI's with UNT going back to 2003. I then compared those players to our rosters for each of those years to track who actually showed up and remained on the roster at the end of each year. Rivals does not track when a walkon converts to a sholarship player and t does not track transfers that receive a scholarship, it only tracks high school and jucos that sign an NLI. Here are the numbers: ---------------------Signed--End----End-----End----End----End-----NLI On Year----#Juco-----NLI----YR1----YR2-----YR3---YR4----YR5----Roster 2003----6-----------24-----16-------16-------10------9---------7-------16 2004----2-----------18-----17-------14-------11-----11--------5--------33 2005----4-----------24-----22-------20-------14-----11--------5--------46 2006----4-----------19-----15-------12-------11------8---------6--------55 2007----1-----------18-----18-------14-------10------8---------2--------62 2008----7-----------26-----23-------21-------13------8---------3--------62 2009----7-----------20-----15-------16-------7--------5--------n/a------56 2010----10---------22------19-------18------12------n/a------n/a------62 2011----2-----------22------20-------19------n/a-----n/a------n/a------55 2012----1-----------22------22-------n/a------n/a-----n/a------n/a------61 One thing that jumped out at me is how few players that sign an NLI have remained on the roster at the end of year 3 and beyond (I assume the rosters I was using from meangreensports represented the end of year roster for all years except current year). It is a 50/50 proposition to make it to the end of year 3. I don't see how you can build depth with that much turnover. I plan to look at other schools to see if they have the same problem, but I posted an example of how LaTech currently has 16 redshirt seniors on their 2-deep according to their website. Most years we are lucky just to have 15 players combined on the roster that are 4/5 year players, much less on the 2-deep. It seems to me that one way to improve the team is to keep more players around for longer periods of time so they can get bigger/faster/stronger. If we are somehow able to start recruiting a more finished player (i.e. 5/4/3 star) then the turnover is not as big a deal. I am going to try to look at some of the power conference teams to see what their turnover looks like.
  17. general admission style seating?
  18. Ok, got me there. I am HOPEFUL they have learned there lesson about being overconfident going into a game when they have not reason to be. As far as humility after bad losses, this program has plenty of experience with that.
  19. ULL was ~#44 when we beat them. We moved up to the high 70's (#77 I think) after the win. A win over MT would have probably moved us to low 70's/high 60's. The team was riding high, getting calls from friends and family that saw the game on espn, thinking of a bowl game, about to play a team we beat 59-7 last year, they lost their best player, etc... We got this. Step off the bus. Whistle blows. What that what? I can't imagine that this team had been that confident/overconfident in recent memory as they were coming off the ULL win. Based on the we they shat the bed, I can only guess that the players AND the coaches allowed themselves to lose a little focus. The result? They got their arses handed to them as soon as the whistle sounded. Before they knew what hit them the game was out of reach. I hope it is a lesson that they don't forget anytime soon. I am confident they won't.
  20. There is no arguing that SA has been supporting UTSA as they have started up the program. Based on their fan support, they took the right approach with their scheduling and produced a nice amount of wins for a start up program. The real test will be the next couple of years as reality sets in with their new upgraded schedule. Take a look HERE to see their future non conference schedule. I really hope they are able to maintain their current interest level. I think it is good for everyone involved, including UNT that they remain relevant and that their fans continue to show up in droves. The good news for them is that they have been able to secure some home games against some big name teams. The bad news is that they had to offer a couple of 2-1's. They also have to fix their 2014 schedule since they currently have one to many OOC games. As we know all too well, finding the right balance can take a while.
  21. I took a quick glance at the LaTech roster to gauge how a peer programs is achieving success recent success. Here is the link to some gameday notes earlier in the season. Their offense/deffense 2-deep is on page 17. They have 16 redshirt seniors and 9 seniors on their 2-deep. We have 10 seniors on our 2-deep. They also have another 7 redshirt juniors giving them a total of 32 4th and 5th year players on their 2-deep. Maybe it isn't all that surprising that they are having a decent season based on how experienced they are.
  22. We've arrived? Opposite of apathy = this?
  23. So he played two years of JUCO, played in a couple of games in 2011, some pointed out that he played in a couple of games this year. How does he have any eligibility left?
  24. So for Lin has had a couple of seasons of anonymity and one incredible streak of a few weeks. Time will tell whether if the man was keeping him down, or if he just had a great few weeks that made him rich and will go back to what he was before.
