It was a great season. Anything less than bringing home the Big 12 championship next season will be a failure.

If the schedule on the photo is correct, that 2015 OOC schedule is shaping up to be tough. @smu, @Iowa, @Tennessee. I am sure the smu game is local enough to practically be a home game in the scheduler's mind and we can easily travel to. I guess we needed to go ahead and schedule the Tennessee game to help pay for the other 'buy' games we are going to have to put on the schedule in the next few years.

College football realignment over? No way, says MWC's Thompson

Does our best opportunity to end up in the MWC require the nBE to stay together and probably invite at least Fresno? -

It still astounds me that TD was not more successful. If the defense was not so bad the first two years, I wonder how different it could have turned out. -
Dirty.

I had forgotten about the McCarney issues, but I wasn't really trying to focus on the issue that Petrino cheated on his wife playing a big role in recruiting. I was really more angling about the likely short term nature of his stay at WKU and whether or not that would impact a recruit's decision about going there.

Big East deal could be worth as little as $60 million per year
CurveItAround replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
It will be interesting to see what happens in all of this. It almost feels like MWC and CUSA will have to hold off on making any moves until the nBE gets settled. Kind of wish this would have happened before MTSU and FAU were announced, just to have more options. -

Especially nice touch at the end of the post, #firejunejones. He has only taken them to 4 straight bowls after a decade of suck. -
And heaven forbid that someone has the audacity to post something that is not a direct bashing of a player, coach, or athletic administrator (or staffer for that matter), or they will be immediately labeled as an apologist, sunshine pumper, etc...

Awesome insight from someone that recently went through the process. I think that I would be in the same basic situation if I had someone going through the process where I was in a position of influence. I would not be surprised at all if Petrino is able to have a successful season next year. The question I would have as a potential recruit, parent, or fan of the WKU program is what is Petrino's commitment to making sure the program will be in as good shape when he leaves as when he got there. Kind of a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. You want to hire the coach with the flash, but you risk that he will be more focused on the short term and do more harm than good in the long haul and that recruits may see it as a negative. I would think that the likely short term stay of the flashy coach is an effective recruiting tool against that school. It will be interesting to see how things turn out with all the schools that recently made new hires and how many recruits de-commit during the transition. I certainly hope we can use the turnover to our advantage with a few recruits.

See? He is not even focused on football. Too busy with partying and girls. /sarcasm

Based on the idea that the current HC is the sole reason that the offense cannot score, can we also assume that the defensive minded Todd Dodge was also clamping down on Chico's offense and ordering him to not produce points either? As a reminder, Chico's potent offense was producing just under 17 points per game through Dodge's first 7 games in 2010 before he got fired. Once the conservative Dodge was gone and Chico was able to remove his Dodge shackles, the offense scored nearly 34 per game over the last 5 games. Odd coincidence?

TBD, What would you have told Connor if he were being recruited by WKU and Petrino was just named head coach, knowing about his past and the likely short term nature of his stay at WKU? Would you see it as a positive or negative?
-
How far back do you suggest to go to start finding the non negative threads? 2004?

Because around here, we hold coaches accountable. Using the logic we used on Dickey, let's see how the coaches from TFLF's list would have fared: Arkansas State: 2 winning seasons, 5 non-losing seasons 2005: 6-6, Steve Roberts 2006: 6-6, Steve Roberts 2007: 5-7, Steve Roberts 2008: 6-6, Steve Roberts 2009: 4-8, Steve Roberts 2010: 4-8, Steve Roberts (gets the axe here) 2011: 10-3, Hugh Freeze / David Gunn 2012: 9-3, Gus Malzahn / John Thompson Florida Atlantic: 2 winning seasons 2005: 2-9, Howard Schnellenberger 2006: 5-7, Howard Schnellenberger (gets the axe here) 2007: 8-5, Howard Schnellenberger 2008: 7-6, Howard Schnellenberger 2009: 5-7, Howard Schnellenberger 2010: 4-8, Howard Schnellenberger 2011: 1-11, Howard Schnellenberger 2012: 3-9, Carl Pelini Florida International: 2 winning seasons 2005: 5-6, Don Strock 2006: 0-12, Don Strock (goodbye) 2007: 1-11, Mario Cristobal 2008: 5-7, Mario Cristobal (probably gone here) 2009: 3-9, Mario Cristobal (definitely gone here) 2010: 7-6, Mario Cristobal 2011: 8-5, Mario Cristobal 2012: 3-9, Mario Cristobal Louisiana: 3 winning seasons, 6 non-losing seasons 2005: 6-5, Ricky Bustle 2006: 6-6, Ricky Bustle 2007: 3-9, Ricky Bustle (finger on the trigger) 2008: 6-6, Ricky Bustle 2009: 6-6, Ricky Bustle 2010: 3-9, Ricky Bustle (fool me twice, gotta go) 2011: 9-4, Mark Hudspeth 2012: 8-4, Mark Hudspeth (what's wrong with coach?) Sunday Night 12-9-12 UNT Recruiting News
CurveItAround replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I'll bet Emmit's rookie partner would do a much better job if given the opportunity. What has Emmit really done to help his station win the fight against crime? He is not really a closer. His Lieutenant doesn't ever assign him to the big/high profile cases and only allows him to work the short/safe cases. And everyone knows that this is because the Chief is really the one that doesn't trust Emmit and does not allow the Lieutenant to assign Emmit to the big cases. -
Sounds like a lot of champagne expectations on a beer budget around here to me.

No doubt that Benford has showed some signs of WTF out there, but he is our WTF at this point and he isn't likely to be going anywhere soon (unless some of you plan on $tepping up), so don't see the point in tearing him down. The players had a large role in that lackluster effort in the first half. Actually kind of encouraging that Benford was able to somewhat motivate them at halftime. He may not be the HC that JJ is at this point in his career by any means, but he will improve as he learns (or he will be gone, eventually). I am more focused on his ability to recruit players that can replace the ones we currently have, to keep this from being a "one shot deal".
-
Like the earlier posters pointed out, Benford should be fired for this performance. Any UNT coach that can't beat Jackson State by more than 20 should be fired.

Funny ha ha? Or funny peculiar?

I feldt like someone might make this point...
