Save The Date-Sat. March 22nd! Basketball Classic Returns!
Mean_Green09 replied to KRAM1's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I'll ball with you guys. -
Here's the deal. I'm convinced there is enough talent within this team to be able to compete on a high level. I give last years team a reprieve bc you had a post guy with a limited low post game and no outside shooting. Plus the injuries. This years team is loaded with guards who can score. They are lacking a low post scoring threat, but you don't need that to win in college basketball. So where does the blame fall? It ultimately falls with the guy that get paid to do a job. He is paid to teach recruit develop and game plan. If his team fails it's his fault. If his team is failing in the fundamentals it's his job to fix it. The best coaches know how to push the right buttons. They know how to get their players to respond to their coaching. I've found the best are the guys who mix fundamentals in with game strategies. Every player needs refreshing of the fundamentals from time to time. If your players aren't executing its your job to fix it. Take out and teach them what they did wrong. If they can't fix it well you brought them here so it still comes back to you. As the head coach you are responsible for all aspects of your program. You are responsible for all failure and success. There is no reason this team can't figure it out by the end of the season. I hope they do. If we don't see development and progress in the players then it will come back to the coach.

If you look at the mins played by each player last yr vs this year you'd see it's actually more evenly distributed this yr.
-
Hard to make it if you don't look for it.
-
Don't laugh but Voss. He was the only big who looks for the ball after setting a pick. The other guys just stay or don't look for the ball.
-
I want Taylor to be our version of James Harden. That's what he would excell at. Pick n Roll
-
Jones did go opposite a bunch.
-
Taylor's assit to TO ratio is basically 1 to 1. Not what you look for in your PG. Putting the ball in his hand more to make more decisions could lead to a lot more TOs. Just saying
-
I trust what I see and he is not a 1. If you put him at the 1 you'd limit his scoring more. He'd turn it over more forcing things. To out of control to be a one. Better as your 2 or 3 where he can focus on scoring
-
He did do a good job attacking and dishing off the pick and roll. I don't believe it would a good idea to have him as your 1. He is more of a 2 or 3. More of a scorer then a true passer. Likes to put his head down a lil too much. Love his athleticism and he is probably the best finisher and scorer. Sometimes he gets a little out of control.
-
So you've got Voss at the 4 Taylor at the 3 and Alzee at the 2. UNT has one true 1 in Chris Jones after him you've a bunch of guys who can handle the ball but they are no 1. Ugh this team is just frustrating bc they just can't put it together. You watch and you watch and you see the plays develop and then you see the guys miss the open man. I don't know I come from a back ground where more was expected of you on the court. So it pains me to see so many missed opportunities.
-
Yes I love it too. I love to analyze it vs what I know. I learned from of the best coaches in Texas. I would like for UNT to have figured out a starting 5 by now too. That being said I don't believe 5 guys have earned the right to be starters on a consistent basis. I'm not just going to start five guys to be consistent. I'm going to start 5 guys bc they have earned that right in practice and in previous games. I don't think you can say 5 guys have stood out for UNT so much so that they deserve to be your starting 5 the rest of the year. I do agree with cutting down a rotation to 8 or 9.
-
Again JJs teams had clear starters. This team doesn't. The production and play is do up and down. Picking the right guys to get minutes is like trying to pick winning lotto numbers
-
Lol this all too funny. You guys crack me up. I think if there were 5 clear starters on this team you wouldn't see as much rotation. UNT has a bunch of guys that are all about the same talent. Some guys have good nights and then the next game they are flat. You can't predict it with this team. Setting minutes. Haha. Recipe for failure IMO. Not sure how many coaches go into a game thinking I got to get this guy this many mins. They may think I want to get him good mins, but game play and other players production are going to determine that
-
Yes that's called help side defense. It was non existent today just like the crowd. UNT has got a bunch of basketball players they don't have a team. It's just a group of guys who don't have much time playing together and now they are expected to perform at a high level and it ain't happening. No cohesiveness. Problems with coaching and players not executing. It's equally apparent. Not sure how'd I attack teams with the group we have.
-
How about other areas where we have improved? FG% Rebs Steals PPG TOs per game. Just better overall effort. I've seen better ball movement this year. I've seen less standing around on offense. Defensively seen better effort. Not as much funneling to one guy hoping he blocks the shot. Instead guys actually staying in front. More active hands in the passing lanes. Not just being lazy
-
You get 2 steps in high school and college. NBA gets 2 1/2 steps.
-
The upside and the product on the floor is better. There is better effort. It's a team that has shown it can score the ball definitely better outside shooting. No way last yrs team is within 20 of USM. They've shown more times where they can play as a collective unit. So I'd have to respectively disagree with you.
-
Did you see the ref hold his hands above his head grabbing his wrist with one hand? No. That's the sign for an intentional foul. The others were personal fouls
-
I know I will be judged harshly, but I see a lot of fans on here talking basketball like you would expect fans too. A lot of upset people with the loss which I understand, but don't claim to know how to fix things. Don't claim you know how to attack the 2-3 or 1-3-1. Because there are all kinds of different ways depending on personnel and matchups. There is not much basketball analyzing on here just lots of complaining. It was a tough loss. I think we all can agree on there is talent on the team. It's just not always working as a collective unit right now. I think we can also say this team is ahead of last yrs group. I think they can be a threat down the stretch if things go right. As a fan I'm happy with the effort and displeased with the execution, but I think they are worth watching.
-
Intentional fouls have always and always will be 2 shots and the ball. I would recommend you do a little research on it. I think you will find he made the right call regardless of where Alzee was. I agree there were a lot of bad calls in this game. As soon as I saw him blow the whistle there I knew he was going to call the intentional.
-
I've seen a lot worse. It was not clear that Alzee was out in front. He was on the other side of the court pretty much even with the USM players. They were in the bonus, but an intentional foul is always 2 shots and the ball. It was the right call. The bad calls I saw tonight were not allowing our players to hit the ground after they shot. I saw at least 3 or 4 times when our shooter was hit causing him to fall down. You have to let the shooter finish his shot.
-
Didn't make a play on the ball he just grabbed the guy. Going to get an intentional foul every time especially on a fast break play
