  1. Sometimes coaches sub out people who are doing better bc they don't always want to take out a kid for a bad play. Some players have fragile mental make up. It happens more than you think.
  2. There is no such thing as normal substitution patterns. Define it with facts. You can't. Laughable. Substitution patterns, we are talking about substitution patterns? Ridiculous. They aren't the reason we are struggling. They never have been the cause of loss nor do they make Benford a bad coach. There are other things this team does that points to his struggles as a coach. Not one of them is substitution patterns.
  3. Yes our big men are concerning. Coleman hasn't produced like many thought he would this year. We ran a motion offense. Have been all year. We play zone because we struggle with on the ball man D and penetration kills us. The zone is trying to mask those deficiencies. What's wrong with reminders. He is telling them to blockout bc of previous games. So you think that he recruited poor shooters on purpose? UTEP had something to do with that shooting performance too. Somedays the ball just doesn't go in. I think we have more shooters this year than we did last year. I'm not a Benford advocate.
  4. I don't support what Benford has done. He has been a failure so far. That being said I don't agree with some of the things you people come up with to bash him on. No basketball knowledge is just as frustrating as this basketball team.
  5. 16-66 is not all on Benford. You act like he teaches them to shot bad. You really think that Benford coaches bad technique when it comes to shooting the ball?
  6. No you couldn't.
  7. I don't associate McNulty with a ball control offense. Anytime you get a back up in there you always see the tendency to play it safe. If he does win the job I don't think you can point to his past mop up duty or the game against Tulsa as a sign of what our offense will be. I think people are rushing to judgement that he is the safe the pick. I think this is a very wide open race. I've been a strong proponent for DW all along bc he has always looked the part since I first saw him play in high school. I'm gonna hold my final judgement till I see some competition on the field. Right now I think McNulty is 1a DW is 1b and Greer is 2.
  8. Yes I wouldnt want to be outside Sunday. Thunderstorms early and possible freezing rain/drizzle in the evening. Its going to be a nasty day.
  9. There still will be those who complain.
  10. No need to anoint Benford as a good coach or the right choice. The jury is still out on him. We just beat 4 teams who were not very good. I'll take em none the less but those teams are not top tier teams. I'm glad this team has stuck together through all the doubt and negativity.
  11. Perhaps he is talking about 2012 and not last year. Cause ya the Texans D last year was atrocious. Good hire to bring in NFL experience.
  12. Stanford is making a push to hire Akina. They are giving him time to decide if he wants the job. He has been offered a job to be their DB coach.
  13. Whose got the mock draft going lol or the draft board up and ready to go
  14. Question: How far of a run in the conference tourney would it take for you to believe this year was an improvement over last year? How far of run in the conference tourney would it take for y'all to have more faith in Benford? I'm not saying I'm sold on him, but you have to admire a team that doesn't fold up shop when the chips are down. I feel like if we can make it to the semis that would be a good indication that this year would be a success. A run to the semis to me would indicate that things are headed in a better direction than most believe.
  15. This is the classic fan being a fan and not looking at the business side of this. Money talks in every profession. I'm pretty sure you would take a hefty raise and a more prestigious job too. He is from Ohio and grew up around Big Ten football, so it probably means a lot to him to get back to his roots. There is no need to be mad at Coach Joesph for this decision. It was a very smart move.
  16. Nothing wrong with big aspirations. I honestly love that in our young grads bc we do need to change the culture at UNT if we want to step it up. In today's world though we aren't close to holding onto these good young coaches. We can't match the salaries. We can't raise it high enough to stop the AQs. We haven't had the publicity and sustained success yet. We have a lot more winning to do if we want to make it difficult for coaches to leave UNT. We don't even sell out our own stadium. We are just scratching the surface. We are going to lose other coaches in the future too.
  17. Its a step up in pay and program. You go succeed at Duke or Indiana and your likely on your way up to a higher profile job. UNT is a stepping stone program for the young coaches. We can't get caught up trying to compete with the schools that have more resources than us. We will be chasing forever. Refusal to pay or refusal to chase a dream? You up his salary to $150,000 or $100,000, but at a school like Indiana or Duke he will still get more and he will have more opportunities later on. I agree we need to raise assistants salaries, but that wont stop bigger schools from coming to poach our guys. It wont and your delusional if you think that upping salaries will solve the problem.
  18. This is not the NFL where its easy to maintain stability in coaching staffs because everybody is on the same level. If your a lower level school like we are and you have GOOD years its going to be hard to keep your staff together. Better jobs will come along and there is nothing you can do about it. Sure you can raise the salary a little bit, but you wont be able to get it high enough to avoid losing coaches. Its a good sign that other programs want the coaches that we have. It will make it easier to replace those coaches that do leave as well. Other coaches will see UNT as a potential stepping stone to the next level and thats why your going to have a lot of people apply for coaching jobs at UNT. Its tough to be losing these good young coaches, but its not surprising. Its also not surprising to lose a coach to Duke. If Coach Joesph does well there it wont be his only stop along the way. He will eventually get other bigger offers. Whoever said we are a better place to be than Duke? Some people just don't understand. Love the passion even though your lack of knowledge is a bit disturbing.
  19. Flip your comment around. You cant guard forever in today's game. If you don't get pressure from a pass rush you will struggle no matter how good your secondary is.
  20. Trice is fighting his size which is probably 5'7 and his speed. He needs to run a sub 4.5 to get a serious look at being drafted. As a GM it would be hard to justify drafting a special teams player in the 6th or 7th when I can sign him as a free agent
  21. Lemon should be a top ten prospect at his position.
  22. In all honesty they all will likely go undrafted, but will all make a roster. Trice and Orr will be starting on some teams special teams coverage unit. Brelan will get a call from lots of teams to join as an undrafted free agent. Had not all the big JR WRs come out in this class he might have had a better shot. I do think our draft drought comes to and end next year.
  23. We're just going to have to disagree on something's here. Just different philosophies. As far as this team goes I do believe the majority of the blame does fall with the coaches. I'm just not one to give a free pass to the players. They are responsible for this mess too. At the end of the day it is my belief that the HC has to answer to his failure or success. I don't think he gets fired though. I think he get another year.
  24. This is false. Coaches at all levels pro, college, and HS who hope they have good players are the guys who end up losing their jobs. A system is just as important in HS as it is in college. You have to rely on your teaching and development skills in order to be successful. Ya you don't get to recruit unless your a prep school or a big school I get that.
