Beyond The Spring - Spring QB Battle
Mean_Green09 replied to BillySee58's topic in Mean Green Football
This Why spend an entire spring trying to transform your offense? That doesnt work out often. We may see one or two more series where the offense is in a hurry up. We may see a few more spread formations, but for the most part it will be what its always been a physical rushing offense. I think we may also run more hurry up not to pass, but to run instead. Going to see more QB run plays. DT ran it 64 times last year, do you think a guy like Dajon could handle 64 carries and not get hurt on his slight frame? Coach Canles is really looking for a QB who can run it. Three years at USF and each QB had over 100 carries. -
That's what I said Captain Obvious. I am embarrassed. Thanks for the confirmation though Sir.
-
Ya I played horrible. I feel embarrassed.
-
I can if no one else can. Much prefer the 3 or 4. Can play the 5 too.
-
You must have got your strategy from Benford. He would've tried the same thing.
-
No not in the shape to run all 40. Lol. I'm more of your catch and shoot guy.
-
This may help you feel a little better...

No it doesn't. Why even bring it up. Nobody cares they lost. They still get in the tourney. Houston played with urgency. SMU could careless they lost. -
Yes Walton played like a guy who didn't want his season to end. Urgency.

CUSA TOURNEY GAME 2 – UNT VS TULANE BASKETBALL PREVIEW “Let’s huddle up here. We’ve got some work to do. We got lucky in the first round. We caught those dirty Krauts napping, but that won’t happen again… “ UNT survived a massive letdown by mounting a second half comeback against abysmal Rice. UNT overcame adversity, poor shooting, poor defense, and a super hot 3 point shooter to advance on to the second round. Rice provided some help along the way by going 14-30 from the free throw line. It was not pretty, but it doesn’t matter at this time of the year. It’s about surviving and advancing. Next up for UNT is the seven seed Tulane Green Wave, which is another team that UNT lost to during the year. They were able to sit and watch UNT yesterday by securing a first round bye. It should be a pretty evenly matched game with both teams having the same record.
-
Totally agree it's a reach. March is about playing with a sense of urgency and down the stretch they showed it. I think there is a sense amongst the coaches and players that they have more left to play for. Time to stay focused not get all rah rah. You've got a game in less than 24 hrs and the prep starts now.

UNT vs Rice Basketball Preview
Mean_Green09 replied to Mean_Green09's topic in Mean Green Basketball
We certainly need his 3pt shooting to make a run. IMO its gonna take one of the bigs coming on strong for us to make a serious run. Someone other than Voss (we need his mid range game). Coleman or Gaines needs to have an impact. That is asking a lot to. Almost like asking someone to accurately predict the winning lottery numbers for you. -
UNT vs Rice Basketball Preview

Well MTSU is the one we played the best against. Then probably Tulsa. To beat either of those teams it would take an extraordinary shooting effort and for either of those teams to have an off night. Being tired shouldn't be an issue yet. Maybe hope for rust. -
UNT vs Rice Basketball Preview
Mean_Green09 replied to Mean_Green09's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Ya I think its very possible to get by Rice and Tulane. The facts are that we didnt beat Rice, Tulane or Tulsa so its a little concerning. -
When is the last time the Rice Owls won a game? Well you would have to go back to February 6th when they defeated the Mean Green 75-70. It wasn’t a pretty effort for UNT on that night. Well that’s all in the past now, because the conference tournament is a whole new season. Conference Tournament week is just as exciting as the Big Dance. It’s an opportunity for almost every team to make a run to the dance. The teams that can play with the most sense of urgency are the teams that come from nowhere to punch their tickets. Can UNT be one of those teams? Can Coach Tony Benford guide this Mean Green team through a tough bracket. A win against Rice would lead to a matchup against Tulane, who is another team that UNT lost to this year. First thing first though UNT needs to take care of the Owls. UT is not worried about North Texas, at all.
Mean_Green09 replied to Ben Gooding's topic in Mean Green Football
Yes he was there with those guys, but I don't feel like he will know much about them. He was there for one year of those guys and they were all true fr. I doubt he knows much about their tendencies and abilities. Also they are going to be taught new and different things by their new coaching staff. Id expect that most of those guys also have grown and developed just a bit. Maybe if he was transferring in this year I would agree with you, but that was 2011 and we are about to enter into the 2014 season. -

He doesn't know their personnel. He may know one guy which I think is Diggs. Most of their guys came in after he left. -
Craig Robertson extended tender offer from CLE
Mean_Green09 replied to jdennis82's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm a Cleveland fan and I've like what Craig has done for Cleveland. However, he has not be good in certain situations. Mainly in coverage he struggles. Numerous times this year he got beat. He made big plays last year and that's why he saw the field. He didnt make as many this year. He is a good backup to have. Cleveland coaches and FO personnel believe they need to seriously upgrade the ILB position this year. -

I'm not worried about UT. I more worried about the holes we have to plug than whether or not UT is concerned with UNT. Their coach will have them well prepared for UNT. I look at Coach Strong being essentially like Coach Mac. The developed talent is pretty even. They have more undeveloped talent than we do. More of a chance to get better. If Ash is their QB it gives them the best chance. I don't think they can line up and run at UNT all game long without a passing attack. Two coaches with the same philosophies on and off the field. Two teams that will be well prepared. The difference to me will come down to the trenches. Right now they are a little better than we are in those areas. I'm excited about the game, but I feel like I need to see more of UNT and UT this spring. At least before i get a sense how good each team is. -

Dual Threat. 4.6 range. Very Athletic -
Good stuff Harry. Mac laid it out today what they are looking for: Leader Take Care of the Ball Dynamic I think if Dajon can show that he can lead this group he will end up being the guy. Like you said talent is there. Greer is the other option with the most talent. I know that young man can lead. He is a serious threat to be the guy. My other guy Quinn. I've seen him play a few times. He is a baller. I'm telling you watch out for him. He is going to be the WOW guy.

Tauaalo plays the zero technique. I think he is perfect for that role. I love that kid will be a star by the time he leaves

Yes his 2-3 zone is a failure. Like I said before those who cant defend in man go to a zone in order to mask their weakness, but it doesn't matter. If you cant play defense then you cant play it there is no masking it. We have trouble with defensive rotation and help defense. A good ball movement team can easily shred a zone. Last year was a huge disappointment and let down. It was part bad coaching and bad luck. Not many teams faced the injury plague that we did. Hard to get any kind of momentum rolling. His ability to get production out of the big's has been the biggest let down in terms of development. Our guard play hasn't been great, but its been a lot better than last year.

He has other things to care about than some beer'ed up fan who doesn't know much about the game of basketball. Like fixing his broken defense and offense. Nobody said anything about caring more about feelings than wins. That's just your attempt to try spin things your way. Sorry that sometimes the fan can't see outside the box. Disclaimer: Not a Benford advocate. Advocate for smart basketball fans.
