  1. Not really a "key stat" Under Mac UNT is 3-3 coming off a bye week. Perhaps a more telling stat is that after a loss Mac is 14-6. In those 14 wins UNT is winning by an average score of 38 to 15
  2. Sorry to break this news to you, but UAB is the better team. This is a bad match-up for us.
  3. I dont think so. I'll guess they've been on the field around 55% or less of the minutes in the games we lost.
  4. I'm gonna have to disagree with you. The Roberts TD run - Buyers and Lee missed tackles The long run by Coleman - missed tackle The TD catches by Wynn- ran right past Buyers and Jones The execution hasn't been there. Quote from Vito's article: “Fundamentally, we were about as poor as we have been on defense in a long time,” McCarney said of UNT’s outing against the Hoosiers. “They really did a good job and executed their offense. We had more missed tackles than I have seen in the last two years in one game. That is really uncharacteristic of us.”
  5. It's an average defense with average talent. To be good they have to play with great discipline and fundamentals. There are times when they do those things and we feel really good as fans. Then there are the games like LT and IU where we don't and we look really bad. We need guys like Lee Jones and Buyers to always play above their skill set bc we are forced to throw extra guys against the run. When those guys have bad games we give up large chunks of yards. Are we as bad as we played against IU? No. Our defense walks a fine line every week between playing good and not good. Typically teams that are balanced give us the most problems.
  6. Yes I was hard on them in my comments, but I was just tired of excuses. I wanted to see execution Saturday and I didn't. I saw a lot of issues that I wasn't hoping to see. We have a very suspect defense right now. Any good to average offense can move the ball against us. Now we are very young on both sides of the ball so I'm expecting the defense and offense to improve a lot in the coming weeks. We need major improvement if we want to make a bowl game.
  7. With all due respect Sir you are wrong. We would've beaten SMU today. It was not hard to see that Indiana was better than us coming into this game. You talk about their schedule and who they beat, but we haven't done anything close to them. Every avg team we've played has blown us out. I'm not hung on them being a good team, but they are an above average team. We are a below avg team.
  8. Indiana won because they were a far superior team. They won because they carved up our avg defense. Going for it there wouldn't have made a difference in the game.
  9. Did our defense even get off the bus? I wasn't sure because I didn't see them at all today.
  10. I apologize for not finishing this earlier. My other job duties kept me pretty busy this past week.
  11. Texas St. Has played better than us this yr so I have no problem with the ranking.
  12. Their running game is much better that Texas or La Tech. Their OL is better than both of those teams. Those RB's at UT are a bit overrated. They havent put up the numbers I thought they would. Coleman is a stud. You give him any type of open space and he is gone.
  13. Looking for topics/questions that you want us guys to discuss. Either send me a msg on here, post it on this thread, email me, or tweet it using #MGNCover2. Thanks!
  14. The first TD run by Dajon was not a typical "zone read" play. It is called an inverted veer play. This one specifically you call an inverted veer power. The RB and QB are attacking the same side of the field. In traditional zone read plays your QB is reading the backside DE. If he crashes the QB pulls, if he stays home he gives to the RB. Most coaches prefer the QB hand off to the RB on traditional zone reads. The inverted veer play is much like the Power O concepts that we use and thats why you see this play more than a traditional zone read. Y'Barbo is the pulling guard on that first TD. Dajon is reading the DE #99 Cole Frazier. Frazier is the best DL for the Colonels. Its typical that you force the opposing teams best player to be the one being read or zoned. What needs to happen to stop this play is for the DE to crash the QB and the LB's to scrape over the top to the RB and not over pursue.
  15. I do not want Seneca Wallace coaching our QBs at all. We can do much better than this guy. Sorry bad exp with him in Cleveland. He was just there to earn a pay check didn't want to help the young QBs learn.
  16. It's just a matter of people comparing wins. We haven't beaten an average or below average team yet. We've only beaten the worst of the worst. Indiana on the other hand has beaten a ranked team on the road.
  17. ODU's offense is really good. Its not just the QB, they have some solid WR's. They will put up points on a lot of teams. College football is all about them match-ups boss. I don't think we match-up well with Indian. Our offense should be able to score some pts on them, but not sure our defense can slow them down.
  18. My wife refers to him as D-Money.
  19. Breaking down North Texas game vs. the Nicholls Colonels. Includes match-ups, starters, stats, advanced stats, scouting reports and a game plan for victory inside! Check it out: The Breakdown FYI - I'm not gonna lie and say I spent the last 20 hours breaking down 180hrs of game film of Nicholls. This game to me is more about what I want us to do than what Nicholls is going to do. That being said they do have some good athletes and players. I would not be surprised to see them score 2 TD's on our defense. I would be very surprised if we don't hit 200 yards rushing especially if we run at 30 times.

  20. I thought about putting that as my concern. I'm going to give them this game and Indiana with Dajon. I'm going to chalk it up to not being able to block 9 guys with 5 or 6. I also think that some of those sacks are on the QB. When you hit the back of your drop as a QB you better have a good idea of where your going with the ball. Dont sit back there for 4 secs picking dingleberries out your butt while your trying to decide where to throw the ball. I mean hell you've been looking at the same guy that whole 4 secs anyways. Throw it or throw it out of bounds. Anyways I think we should see some improvement from this group once we get to Indiana.
  21. You know the simplest offenses in college football are almost always the best. There are the rare occurrences that you have a Andrew Luck or Colt McCoy that can make multiple reads while under pressure and deliver accurately. For the most part though simple is good. I want my QB making quick decisions. If he has proved to me that he cant, them I'm going to limit the number of steps he has to make to make the decision.
  22. It was another bad week for the QB and the coaching staff has decided to give UNT fans what they all wanted. Moving the much hyped RS FR Dajon Williams to QB. What does the move to Dajon do for the offense? BillySee58: The sample size is very small, but it looks like he's going to do a lot. His running ability gets the most attention from us fans, and the zone-read did help create bigger running lanes than running power and counter from under center against 8-9 man fronts. Even if it wasn't against the first team defense. In the passing game Dajon looked much better than Greer has in the pocket. He does a great job of keeping his eyes down field while still being able to feel out the pass rush. We also saw multiple times where we'd have a receiver open down field but Greer would either miss or throw a duck where the receiver would have to come back and dive to get. Dajon did a much better job hitting the receivers in stride. Read More: Billy & Greg's Double-Eagle Bracket Coverage I want to thank BillySee58 for his great insight. 23. Wasn't JM's fault coach swag didn't recruit defensive players that could stay off the crime report and produce on the field.
  24. This is Texas. If we can't recruit a good QB then we aren't doing it right. Recruits aren't scared of what offense we run. This offense would sling it just fine if we had a guy to do it. We had a game manager/distributer last year and we played to his strong suits. Canales will call plays that he knows Dajon can execute. Our offense will always be designed to what the players can do. Greer had trouble throwing and reading a defense so why call a pass? If the execution is there this offense can score plenty of points. It's a spread offense with power running concepts. Not many spread teams can line up in 2 TE sets and then transition to a 4 WR set and still be successful. Ours can when the threat of a completed pass is there.
  25. He is no longer on the team. I think he transferred before the season started. Kind of a shame. Was hoping to see big things from him. He plays at Oklahoma Baptist University now. http://www.obubison.com/roster/12/26/4327.php
