  1. It's gonna be 3-2 zone all the way bc of their shooting. I agree I'd like to see more man too.
  2. BASKETBALL BREAKDOWN: DELAWARE ST. HORNETS I'm expecting a bit more scoring in this match-up and probably a closer game. Delaware St was picked to finish 5th in their conf. and like BillySee58 said are led by a stat sheet stuff in 6'10 Kendall Gray. He should be a handful for our bigs tonight.
  3. Yes that fact seems to be escaping the thoughts of many. Our zone d was not that great. The radio guys kept calling it a 2-3 when it was a 3-2. You don't run a 2-3 against an outside shooting team. Nicholls pretty much got any shot they wanted. I was not happy with the way they penetrated the zone.
  4. I think we will be fine in the paint. We are much better there this year then last year. Combs, Voss, and Ahmed are giving us 20 rebs and 24 ppg right now. Last year it was only Voss who was showing any production. We are getting enough from our interior guys, but we need help from the guards. It was nice to see TJ Taylor play really well last night. DeAndre Harris looked like he had good burst. He is really the only guy who can take his man off the dribble an blow past someone. Eaglin ran the point okay, but was no threat to score it. Ward was non existent last night. Pittman played out of control. Still not sure if he can hit a down town shot.
  5. Awful shots are when you drive to the hoop and throw it up out of control. Bad shots are taking a contested 3 6ft behind the arc 10 sec in the shot clock leading to a long rebound and a fast break the other way. I get that you want them to shoot more, but they need to find a better shot selection. We can get your shot anytime in the shot clock. Why not be patient run your offense and get a good look. Right now we are rushing things on the offensive end. I also don't think we have the type of guys your want for your offense. Jordan Williams is good, but he is not a player like any of those guys you described. Not as quick a release guy or getting squared up for a shot. Maurice is a spot up shooter, TJ and DeAndre are more isolation guys. So we really dont have a knock down shooter. UNT is 4-19 behind the 3 pt line this year.
  6. Not to be mean, but your theory of volume shooting with this team is a bad idea. They already put up enough awful shots not bad, but awful. I don't want to see more prayers. I want a better shot selection.
  7. I'm gonna disagree with you on the D. Good effort but execution is poor. NICH has gotten plenty of good looks. They've penetrated way to much against the zone. Luckily for us NICH is just having a poor shooting night.
  8. They dont always buckle in big games. Match-ups dictate more often than not if a team can defeat another team. You know OL vs DL. QB & WR vs DBs. Spread teams with a good accurate QB can defeat Alabama, but if the QB cant thread the pass in there they struggle. Oregon and Ohio St dominated Michigan St. this year Spread vs Power. You could find just as many games where a spread team defeated a power or pro team as you could the other way around. Big games in the SEC are a lot different then big games in CUSA. A big game in CUSA is more often than not going to be spread vs spread. In our case some form of a spread offense is needed. High school football in Texas is all about the spread. Know your recruit base. We already run a spread offense with power run principles. We just don't have enough speed and a QB to make it work. We also lack in the play calling area. Our personnel doesnt fit what we try to do. There are all kinds of problems with this UNT team right now.
  9. Fans travel well. I think it would be an interesting matchup. Plus a fun one.
  10. 1. Kansas St. 2. Iowa 3. Fresno St 4. North Dakota St. 5. TCU
  11. I'm a huge Browns fan. Craig has certainly played better this year. This coaching staff understands his strengths. He is a big part of the special teams. Blocked a punt last week to set up the winning score. He is mainly on the field on 1st and 2nd down or run downs. Been very tough against the run. He fills the gap very well. Great to see him be successful for the best fan base in the NFL.
  12. Perhaps the coaches miss him and the fans just appreciate what he accomplished but realize it's time to move on and talk about how we find the next better than average QB who could possibly lead us back to a bowl.
  13. Not ashamed to say I miss Mr. Thompson. I miss his completion percentage from last year in close games - 67% games where the game is within 7 points . Compare that to McNulty 53%, or Dajon 54%. I miss the leadership. I don't miss the INTs that cost us games. I miss his QB rating in those close games 143.5 vs McNulty 115.6, Dajon 79.8. I miss the fact that he got rid of the ball quicker than the guys we have now. I appreciate what he did for UNT. He wasn't the greatest, but he was a stable veteran who had just enough talent to help us win games. Your kidding yourself if you think Dajon or McNulty could have helped this team win 9 last year. Maybe 5 or 6. If he was the QB this year the win/loss total might not look a whole better, but the QB position itself would look better. He isnt here though and its time to stop thinking about it. 2014 is not 2013 and its time to look forward to 2015. Its a shame that this QB situation wont solve it self anytime soon. McNulty is the best option we got for now. Time to stop throwing the ball so much.
  14. Andrew McNulty is best the bad option we have. Time to just embrace the horror.
  15. THE BREAKDOWN: RICE OWLS
  16. Just blaming him for the struggles of this year. Not saying he needs to be fired at all. That's the last thing I'd want to see done. Just think he needs to rethink a few things in his program. Also we know it's hard. We don't need to hear it though. It just sounded like he was reaching for sympathy.
  17. They aren't getting blown out by average teams. They have beaten teams that will win another game this year. Coker will most likely out recruit Mac.
  18. I was indeed one of those that wanted a simpler playbook and reads for him, but I wasn't calling for us to abandoned the power running game like we have. There were plenty who wanted us to go wide open and spread it out, but I wasnt one of them. Sure you add in a few read option plays and the sprint out looks, but you don't try to re-create your whole play book mid season. We've lost our identity on offense. I thought Dajon would make 1 or 2 mistakes during a game, but not what he did against UAB. RS FR or not no one should be doing that.
  19. I don't mean to be rude, but neither Coach Canales or Coach Mac have a damn clue as to what to do with the QB position. Their epic failure to prepare a QB for this year has been the main reason this team has failed. You cant keep flipping between guys. You certainly cant switch offensive philosophy in the middle of the season and hope to be successful.
  20. Yeah we know that, but we don't need the leader of our program out there proclaiming it too. Tired of the bed of excuses that have been running through this program. We want better results and we want competitiveness. Not to get embarrassed by average teams.
  21. It’s been a tough year for UNT football fans. What seemed like a promising year has quickly vanished. Panic and doubt has crept into almost every fans mind. We are all left wondering who's to blame for what has transpired. Well, wonder no more because I have your answer. #1. Dan McCarney You know that moment when you were younger playing sports or really anytime in life and you made a mistake. Your coach, parent, or teacher asked why you did what you did. You would answer back with a response and they would give you that classic line of “If you know then why did you still do it”. That would be my comment to Coach McCarney this week. If you knew and you told us that your team was playing poorly why didn’t you fix it? You've given us the similar statements after 3 losses this year. You've told us that the play was unacceptable and embarrassing. Read the rest here if you want: Who is to blame?
  22. Its a bad move. Its awful. Its plain dumb to open the competition back up.
  23. Thanks. Yeah lots of interesting dynamics to this game. To bad I wont get to watch it live as I will be driving to a wedding. Seriously its not cool to get married during football season. Plus don't get married in College Station on an Aggie gameday.
  24. Whats wrong with the defense? BillySee 58: It really seemed like the turning point in the season was the second quarter against La Tech. Prior to that we had a solid defense outing against Texas, beat up on a bad SMU offense, and shut La Tech down in the first quarter. Since then we just haven’t looked good. Even against Nicholls we gave up big run lanes, with their starting back rushing for 95 yards on us, despite not having a passing threat to back us off. We have really struggled getting off blocks and wrapping up. Anytime a team runs the ball at will, you’ll hear people saying they’re driving us 3 yards off the ball. That wasn’t really the case, as much as they were just sealing us off and not letting us get our run fits. Read More Here: BILLY & GREG’S COVER 2
  25. Enjoy! THE BREAKDOWN: NORTH TEXAS MEAN GREEN VS UAB BLAZERS Should be a pretty exciting game. Fairly even matched teams, both teams are going to do stuff that the other one struggles with. Maybe we will finally find out how good or bad this UNT team really is.
