  1. Nope. Not even close
  2. Anytime we've run a pass play with long developing routes our OL has struggled.
  3. I agree. I'd like too see them add Coleman as a sideline reporter. I thought he's added a lot of valuable insights today.
  4. It's a spring game it's supposed to be vanilla. Why show your playbook? You can certainly tell the difference in the offense. Quicker tempo is there. Lots of simple one read plays.
  5. I think he has to do more than just be a game manager. He doesnt have a top notch D to protect him. He has to get the offense in the endzone a lot. He has to better than DT was if we are going to win 6 games. Thats asking a lot of him and I dont think he can do it.
  6. I'm still wondering who will be the power back.
  7. I'm going to end this debate, because everybody who has chimed in is correct. Football coaches often use their own unique languages and sometimes depending on what group of guys you're working with, the same word can mean two different things. So for UNT it may mean number of down linemen, center is covered, or shading alignments. The way Brett described it he probably meant number of down linemen because he probably didn't know about the other meanings. I do know for a fact that some NFL teams have 3-4 even packages and 4-3 odd packages in their playbook. That's not from a video game either. That's from reaching out to trusted guys who've coached at all levels. So again it really comes down to what it means to the coach who is calling his defense odd or even.
  8. I'm with Jay Bilas. Adopt the international rules and go from there. The players already play with the international rules in the offseason. Yes the tourney was successful, but the refs were awful. The game is too slow. The college game could use a face lift. It would just make the product that much better.
  9. Odd front means what shade the DL is playing. Generally speaking when a DL lines up directly over an OL/TE it would be an even shade (6,4,2), but if he lines up on the outside shoulder (9,7,5,3,1) that would be an odd technique. Inside shoulders are given an even number with i so 2i would be the inside should of a G. 1 would be the A gap between G an C, 3 would be the B gap between G and T. 5 is outside shoulder of T. 7 is inside shoulder of TE or completely outside an OT. 9 or wide 9 is outside should of TE or way way outside of OT. See Detroit Lions for a wide 9.
  10. You also have to factor in that we are replacing a D Coordinator while those other teams aren't. So while we do have talent to help replace those key guys we will also be learning a new system. Your going to be asking guys to do new things at game speed and that can be difficult for a guy who hasnt gotten a lot of game reps.
  11. Indiana was one of the worst teams after they lost their starting QB Nate Sudfeld in the Iowa game which was the game right after ours. Before that they were on pace to go to a bowl game and had a much more explosive offense than Iowa. The guy Indiana started the rest of the way only threw 1 TD I think. Yes we have sucked on the road under McCarney. Mac has taken teams and won on the road against Iowa so its a familiar setting for him. Gives me a little bit more confidence. Iowa will not have an explosive offense to murder us. Its just not in their DNA. Again have I full faith that we stay within 20 pts.
  12. Iowa really doesnt have a track record of murdering anybody early in the season. We should be able to keep the margin of victory for Iowa under 20.
  13. I think its a pretty good hire. Surprised they didn't even talk to Marshall who is a better coach IMO. Some Texas insiders were quoted as saying that Marshall coveted the UT job, yeah okay no way. Smart will be able to add a jolt of energy to their program. He is gonna be able to recruit a little bit better than Barnes. He is not a real upgrade in strategy. When his press breaks gets broken down and he cant get those easy buckets he will have to figure out how to get his offense to score against the big boys in the half court. Not saying he cant do it, but his teams have never ranked in the top 20 in offensive efficiency.
  14. So Leon Allen going for 1542 yards, 5.7 ypc, 13 tds is little to no run game? Not to mention Anthony Wales who went for 518 yards. Both those guys are back. 2014 WKU Rushing Rush Play % 42.69% (#116) Yards/Rush 4.9 (#30) Rushes/Game 33.0 (#106) Rush Yards/Game 162.6 (#63) The WKU offense will be capable of beating us in multiple ways. They dont really need a good defense when their offense can put up 50 points a game. Their D is returning 8 starters so its likely to improve. Their secondary was really weak last year, I'm not sold on the fact that we have a QB that could take advantage of that.
  15. Always been a fan of take what the defense gives you. If people are going to load the box against us well then take advantage of them over the top. If people chose to play us conservatively then get the ball out quickly to the play makers and let them do their thing.
  16. The WKU at North Texas cross-division showdown has been moved up two days. The Hilltoppers and Mean Green will now meet on Thursday, October 15, in Denton, Texas. Date Changes Announced to 2015 C-USA Football Schedule
  17. Could we turn to the short quick passing game because our starting QB doesnt have the arm strength to attack teams vertically?
  18. Completely disagree. He would care and he would do well here. If you saw any of the quotes or video of his press conference yesterday you'd believe the same thing. Hiring Barnes would vault us to the top tier in CUSA basketball. He will be hired quickly by someone. He will have who ever he is coaching in the tourney next year.
  19. Okay well if you simplify the reads it should lead to a quicker decision and the ball get out before the blitz or pressure can get to him. Decision making and pocket awareness are 2 things he needed work on with in game scenarios. Simplifying the reads will help with his decision making process. It will also help the other QBs.
  20. Yes that may help in the development of Dajon. Hopefully it will be more of a one read type of offense.
  21. A couple of thoughts: Dillman will be the most talented QB on this roster come the fall. This guy was gonna be the most talented QB on Nebraska's roster so why wouldn't he be the same on ours? Doesn't mean much, because as most have pointed out our coaching staff has trouble developing a QB. Smith can easily pass McNulty for the starting job in the fall. It wont take much to supplant McNulty. McNulty is just keeping the seat warm until Smith gets here. Even if McNulty wins the job and keeps it for the whole year and plays good it still wont lead to a bowl game. This team needs more than just a bus driver of an offense that complements a strong defense. Just my feeling that defense is going to struggle this year. So our offense needs to be pretty explosive. The defense will struggle because we are replacing a lot of leadership positions and have a new DC. I expect to see a lot of communication issues and players out of position early in the year. The only way the defense is saved is if the defensive line balls out.
  22. If they are terrible how would you describe UNT? I'd take their coach team and program over ours that is already buried in the ground.
  23. You've got to come ready to play. These small schools have some pretty good talent and are hungry.
  24. Iowa St just puked all over that floor. Awful performance. Benford can now sell the donors on the fact that he beat a team that won a tourney game. Wonder if that will trigger a bonus for him.
  25. Yes they got a 1 seed. They play Charleston Southern tonight.
