  1. Based on my initial CUSA power rankings here is how I would rate our conf and non conf opponents from toughest to weakest 1. Tennessee 2. WKU 3. Iowa 4. Marshall 5. MTSU 6. LA Tech 7. Southern Miss 8. UTEP 9. Rice 10. SMU 11. UTSA 12. Portland St
  2. What are some questions that y'all would like to see Coach McCarney answer at Media Day, but wont get asked? Did Dajon leave the program or was he forced out? Why havent you been able to recruit and develop a QB since your arrival to NT? How do you feel about your AD only getting you 5 homes this year? You have always pointed to a lack of Div 1 talent or speed being a big problem. Does this year's team finally have the speed and talent to win the West? Why havent you been able to awake the sleeping giant yet? Describe what Chris Cosh will do differently then Skladany?
  3. Or be a true option team like a Navy or Georgia Southern. Georgia Southern beat Florida without completing a pass. If you're a little team you have to be dynamic in one area and good enough in the other area to keep teams honest. Honestly if you're a dynamic running team it better be a spread running style with an athletic QB.
  4. Well we get them in their 10th game so I doubt experience will matter much by then. Getting to play them while they are in the middle of a tough SEC conference schedule probably gives us more of a chance than their youth. We get them after a home game against South Carolina and right before a trip to Mizzou. Id put our chances of winning at 10% right now.
  5. Agreed. If Dodge would've been able to spend some time in the college ranks as an assistant before getting a head gig it could've worked out. He certainly would've been better prepared and hired better assistants.
  6. My Bold Prediction would be Kidsy ends up being the Special Teams POY. That kid can be a dynamic returner
  7. How many of y'all were expecting to see McNulty as one of our reps?
  8. Ive heard these unis will add a special power to McNulty's arm. Its quite possible that these unis could solve our QB problem.
  9. He might have committed to us early, but no way would we wouldve have been able to hold on. Still you have to try to land guys. NT is committed to not getting a good QB commit. The feeling is that with a good running game and defense we can win or be in any game. The QB position has been devalued by this staff.
  10. McNulty is a nice kid, good heart but.... He wont make the grade. It is impossible for him to make such a jump that leads UNT back to a bowl game. He has to better than DT and he has to do that against a tougher schedule than DT had to face. Could he improve to be an average QB yeah I could see that. Above average would be asking a bit much.Top tier conference is impossible. All conference is laughable. McNulty's best hope is that the defense is better than 2013 and the offensive weapons are better than 2013. If both those things happen he would have a chance of making the grade.
  11. Maybe Davis is a more of a press man cover corner and didnt fit the system? Maybe he couldnt cover guys when giving so much free room to run a route.
  12. "When I rated UNT’s players, I gauged them on their potential impact based on performance at the college level more than anything else, including who offered them out of high school or their size and speed." http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2015/07/thoughts-on-unts-top-25-players.html/ Okay well that still doesnt put McNulty any where near being a top 10 player on this team. His performance is lacking. He didnt have big time or even multiple offers as a QB. He doesnt have the size or arm to be an impact player. The one thing he does have is above average speed for a QB, but even that can be debated. The average speed of QBs has risen significantly in recent years.
  13. According to Vito we only have 8 players better than McNulty, but what does that guy know about evaluating talent? We probably have 20+ players that are more talented than McNulty.
  14. I feel like we aren't getting the return we should get for the money we do spend.
  15. What I want to know is why we havent be using the McPooch Punt more often. That would be a lethal weapon in the special team game.
  16. Just as an FYI Gamerosters put out an update 14-15 roster update for all teams last year. It was like $20 I found it was pretty useful. They didnt have everybody on there, but it was pretty good. I'd assume they would be doing the same this year.
  17. Agree. Dont make some desperate plea to get the loyal fans who do show up to go to the games. If you expect us to show up your team better show out. If you want your sell outs put a better product on the field and bring in more quality opponents. Do your part coach and we will take care of ours.
  18. Its college football you dont need the smartest guy. I feel the play book thing is over blown. The offense was simplified to help the QBs. Its not like we have some 400 page playbook. Smith can easily over come the hurdle to win the QB battle. He has the better talent, he just needs to show sound decision making on the field.
  19. We can waste our time leaving a message on his phone, but I doubt he even calls back so to say "no thanks." Our program is not in the position to land a guy like Golson. He wants to go to a P5 school or a school that could bolster his draft stock.
  20. What about the fact that Golson got kicked out of school for cheating?
  21. Dont forget its also about drafting guys with a specific skill sets that your team needs. Also special team fillers come in those later rounds.
  22. Z. Orr was not going to be drafted last year and it makes sense that he wasnt. Non of that had to do with UNT's football program. There were a couple of reasons why: 1. Size. At 5'11 237 it would be hard to fit into any system as an ILB. 2. ILB is not a high priority draft position. Only 8 guys draft last year. Only 1 guy in the 1st round. The rest were 3rd - 7th. 3. When you get into those later rounds you find a lot teams looking for high potential guys. Not something Orr was. He was coming into the league as a special teams contributor. I'm not sure many GM's/Coaches viewed him as a guy who could develop into a starting ILB. They viewed him as a guy who wouldn't cause problems and would contribute right away on special teams. Its hard to commit a draft pick for a guy that doesn't have that high potential. His measurables didnt jump off the charts. 4. Orr was ranked anywhere from the 19th best LB to not even ranked. One guy I trust didnt have him ranked and this guy does his homework.
  23. The buzz comes from the lack of snaps people have seen him play which adds to the hope that he could develop into something special. At this point fans are willing to latch onto anybody, but Greer or McNulty. I think some of the buzz also stemmed from last years spring game where he showed some good moxy in the pocket. His tools are raw. He gives you rare glimpses of potential. Good size. I honestly believe he has the best escape-ability out of all the QBs. Just has a knack of being able to elude a rush. The ceiling seems higher for Means than Greer or McNulty thats why people are high on him.
  24. Sure there were a few missed assignments, but you can't judge on highlights alone. I mean was there really 8 mins of highlights from that game anyways? When you combine both the 1st & 2nd defensive units you should be able to piece together a decent unit. Not a 2013 unit, but possibly better than last year. I don't envision a star studded D, but rather 11 guys with equal talent who combined together could make for a good D. It's gonna take all the pieces functioning together though. Because there isn't a Zach Orr, Akunne, or Trice to save someone's missed assignment.
  25. The dog-piling should continue, but not on Greer. Rather it should be on the coaching staff for continuing to believe he has the tools to be an FBS QB. Greer is obviously a better practice QB than in game QB and the staff rewards him for that. However, when the bullets start flying he just cant hang.
