  1. We will be watching Smith if he beats out McNulty and if the Coaches let us watch him.
  2. I dont believe that we need our QB to be as dynamic as Boykin to have a winning season this year. To get to a Boise Level, yes its going to take a play making QB. No way do we hit 6+ YPP without a player like Boykin or an all conference caliber QB. I also believe our offense has been handcuffed by the QB, but also the coaching staff. I dont believe the staff has designed the offense in previous years to be explosive. Methodical yes, explosive no. How many teams now a days are able to put together 15+ play long drives? Thats what I felt like our offense was forced to do. If the defense couldnt provide good field position then it makes really tough on offense to score. The average starting field position last year for NT was the 32 yard line . The average starting field position when NT scored TDs was at their own 42. NT started 70 yards or further on 62% of their drives last year. 75% of those drives ended with no points. Last year we werent equipped to be methodical or explosive. This year I believe we have the skill players to have an explosive offense, but I wonder if the coaching staff will design an offense that uses our skill makers strengths.
  3. Not really shocking that Greer is listed at the number 2. Smith hasn't earned anything yet. What makes you think this staff would just hand him the number 2 job. Now if Dajon was here Smith would be listed above him.
  4. MGN: Inside the Numbers: North Texas Offense Must Improve Explosiveness
  5. I don't see how SMU would be favored-7. I think the line will be closer to -3. If they get really destroyed by Baylor it could be a pick'em game. Odds makers probably won't have a feel for either team.
  6. Not surprised since his arm was compared to Mettenberger's
  7. Won't come out till the week 1 games are played I believe
  8. We won't ever be able to duplicate a Boise St. model just being a ground & pound team with a good D. We won't ever be noticed. We have to figure out a way to balance our offense and put up 35 to 40 points a game. We won't ever grow this program to the level so many want by being a team who wins close low scoring games. Sure we can go to bowl games and have a shot at winning CUSA, but our ceiling will be limited.
  9. Call it your Grumpy Old Man segement
  10. There will be those that will argue: That the only QB this staff developed put up average numbers on a team that had play makers surrounding him on defense and offense. Maybe go as far to say that this staff hindered his development with poor in game play calling. Did this staff develop DT to the max of his potential or just to an acceptable level to not lose games?
  11. Chico uses that with the white to see where the QBs are looking.
  12. Mean has the size, tools, and talents, but.... Can this staff develop him? I have serious doubts about this staff's ability to develop and get a QB to play a high level. They have failed to do it since their arrival. If your a HS QB and you do your homework why would you come here? Yes there is the chance to start right away, but can the coaches get me to the next level?
  13. Just returning starters? A small piece. The main bulk is how I rate the current team. I do think it's important though to look not only at returning starters but production and returning letterman as well.
  14. They ranked low in a lot of my unit rankings as well as ranking low in returning production, returning starters, and other areas that's why they got a really low rating. Are they THAT bad no. I said that in my thoughts below the rankings. I think they are a big unknown and won't play as bad as they've been rated. Charlotte on the other hand rated low in unit rankings but they do have a ton of production returning. Once the season starts a new equation will be used to rate the teams. I didnt just rate these teams based on media predictions. I did my research and put in the time.
  15. 6 wins should always be a realistic goal, but it should be the baseline goal of every season not the top goal.
  16. They found their right coach and they chose to take football seriously.
  17. So what is the Boise Model? http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1902241-blueprint-for-building-a-powerhouse-college-football-programhttp://www.forbes.com/sites/jasonbelzer/2013/04/04/boise-state-football-and-the-blueprint-for-organizational-greatness/ Have we hired the right coach? We had a couple of shots at a Signature Win Have we gotten noticed? Not really "In other words, the media doesn’t show up to do a feature on your team when you hold opponents to under 10 points per game. No, you’re more likely to stir the pot when you rack up yards and score points." We dont really have an exciting style of play. We are just now hopefully getting on par with the uniform game, but we are still behind. We dont really have "THE GUY" yet maybe Mr. Wilson becomes the guy. I have a feeling that with the way we play offense it will most likely be a RB.
  18. INSIDE THE NUMBERS: CAN McNULTY HAVE A BREAKOUT SR SEASON?http://meangreennation.com/inside-the-numbers-can-mcnulty-have-a-breakout-sr-season/
  19. Cant wait to hear the craziness and goodness from the "Open Mic" segments
  20. Also throw in McNulty is facing what looks to be a tougher schedule We will see more up tempo and more spread looks. The question is will it be balanced in non garbage time. Plus will they be able to balance touches and not just all Carlos Harris. Harris accounted for over 40% of all the passing targets.
  21. As a 5th year Sr in the same offense Mr. McNulty should be able to beat defenses with his mind. He should be able to identify the defense and know where the ball should go before the snap. Thats how he should overcome the natural talent problem. He shouldn't be holding onto the ball for long periods of time like he did in the spring game. His errors should be very limited. I'm not completely sold on his ability process information on the field and make the quick decisions. When the pressure is off and we are talking about pen and paper he is a good QB. When he has guys breathing down his neck and putting the pressure on he is a below FBS level QB.
  22. The problem with McNulty is not that he doesn't deserve to start, because he does. He has done everything asked of him. He is tough, smart, respected, knows the offense. The problem is with the coaching staff failing to get a guy in here with more talent then McNulty and preparing said guy to be the guy. They are stuck with McNulty because they've failed to do better as a coaching staff with the position. They are going to start him because they have no other choice. Unless Smith comes in and blows him away.
  23. Mac was asked if McNuggets could have a season like DT it wasnt Mac saying well because he played so well for us last year we think he could duplicate DT's performance. What was he going to say? No he cant be good enough for us to win. It was typical coach speak. McNulty is all things Mac said he was good kid, hard worker, and respected. We all know this is still a competition. If it was a slam dunk that McNulty was the starter he would've been in Boca
  24. I gave UTEP the edge over Southern Miss in most of my position unit rankings. I just think the QB position gives USM the edge overall. You have Mullens and TCU transfer Tyler Matthews vs Mack Leftwich. UTEP will have a beastly running game I agree, but with no real threat at WR and a below average QB I can see them having a lot of problems that we are used to seeing here at NT. Stacked boxes and daring them to go deep. UTEP was going to count on Texas transfer TE MJ McFarland, but he failed a drug test.
