MGN Break Down & Other Stuff: SMU
Mean_Green09 replied to Mean_Green09's topic in Mean Green Football
Thank you Sir. It is a lot of words to read. Many people or a few may be wondering what happened to a lot of the charts and formations. Well the charts or the information that was on the charts will be moved to a posting called "Inside the Numbers". I will be doing one of those each week. Our goal is to get it on a more fan friendly spread sheet like the player ratings. Formations on the other hand became quite time consuming. If this was my full time job I would break things down in a way that many sites make people pay for that kind of info. Unfortunately I've become a little time strapped with work and the big news that my wife and I are expecting a first child. Cant wait to welcome my new little football/basketball scout into the world. Yes I will do my best to make sure he is developed into a 5 star QB that goes to NT and changes everything. Hopefully by then we wont have any trouble landing the big name recruits. -
MGN Break Down & Other Stuff: SMU

He started going with a man under 2 deep safety look so Baylor couldn't get over the top. I expect to see a mix of man coverage on early downs and zone on longer down and distance situations. It it will be really interesting to see what Cosh does. Will he be more quarters coverage or man? -
MGN Break Down & Other Stuff: SMU

When I look at North Texas vs. SMU and think about who has the overall advantage I wonder about NTs bye week. In SMUs case is it easier to make adjustments after a few series of seeing what NT is going to do? Or is it easier for NT easier to work out the the kinks of an opening game knowing what your opponent is going to do? Who can execute at a higher level? We saw Baylor and SMU miss lots of tackles last week. I guarantee you that NT ran a tougher more physical camp then those 2. I hope that we don't see a missed tackle epidemic on Saturday. -

EA Sports also didn't do their homework as much on the smaller schools. Are some of these guys rated too high? Probably. I mean with a guy like J. Wilson you are rating him a lot on potential. A lot of these guys are more potential than production. Once I see them this week and really after the first 3 weeks the rankings should be more accurate. Yes bring back NCAA! -

Is the UpTempo Offense the best strategy for SMU?
Mean_Green09 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Of course we are going to see up-tempo. What we don't want to see is what happened to Texas this past weekend. Running the same offense at a quicker pace. Not getting your best players enough touches. I see what you're getting at about running uptempo against a team that does it better. We can't afford to have quick 3 and outs. What I hope we see in Saturday is McNulty distributing the ball the play makers in space and a healthy does of the backs. Wilson in particular needs 15-20 touches. Wear them down. -
I really dont believe they will double Carlos. I feel like they believe they dont have to. I believe they are going to play a lot of man. Our WRs will have to win battles. Darvin Kidsy is listed as PR/KR. James Gray is his back-up on KR
-
The way I look at it Dilonga will provide more support against the run in the early downs. Johnson, Polk, Combs those are the pass rush specialist. Loving and Smith are tough matchups. Once we get in the red zone. I'm immediately getting Loving. Smith, Rutherford, and Goree on the field. McNulty can have his pick of jump ball This group of skill position guys excluding WR is the deepest and best since Macs arrival.

NT / smu Position by Position Comparison

Thursday or most likely Friday I will put out a Break Down of the SMU game. I will discuss the matchups, key players, how UNT can slow SMU down, how UNT can be successful against SMU. Stuff like that. -
I'll give you Matt Davis at QB, but if you think that Prescott Line is better than J. Wilson & Jimmerson you Sir have fallen off your rocker.

MGB: McCarney confirms McNulty will start

No. My guess is tomorrow Mac said his QB depth chart was 1. McNulty 2. Greer 3. Smith -
MGB: McCarney confirms McNulty will start
Mean_Green09 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I think it's the wrong move. I don't believe in McNulty. I think this staff is making a huge gamble by going with him. I think this staff has done a horrible job upgrading the QB position. BUT I want McNulty to prove me wrong. I want what Coach Mac says about McNulty to be right. I want him to have a better year than DT. I'd love for him to lead NT to a bowl game. Until he proves me wrong I will continue to have doubts about him, the OC, and the HC- 40 replies

SMU is a 3.5 favorite. Vegas Insider. That's a little low and Vegas is giving NT some respect -

But we have a for sure non loss and that is this week!
-
Not sure how Yahoo ranked him behind McNulty.
-
Doesn't mean they are riding McNulty all the way at all. Just means his teammates respect him and he is a leader. That's probably the biggest reason he is the starter too.
-
He will get his chance. It may not be early in the year, but he will get his chance. Can DaMarcus break the streak of busts as QB recruits around here? Or will it be another guy. Perhaps maybe someone not on campus.

Haven't yet decided to make the SMU game? Rethink this.
Mean_Green09 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
The SMU game could be a huge momentum builder for this season. If we get between 5,000 & 10,000 fans at the SMU game and win it will only increase the support for the next game and first home game against Rice. Its a big reason why the #1 key to NT having a successful season this year is: Walk into Gerald J. Ford Stadium like Kenny Powers would and own it. Cant stress enough how winning the first game could catapult this season. 6 Keys for North Texas Football to be Successful in 2015-16 -
RV joins us on podcast tonight: Questions?
Mean_Green09 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Where there any players involved in picking the new uniforms? If they weren't why not? Why are we always behind in the uniform game? Why is the standard bar set so low around here? When will a quality team play UNT in Apogee What are the marketing strategies? Can I be hired to help with the sports information department? Sports analytics? Other teams are using new technology to track players health in practice. Will UNT be looking into that. What steps are you taking to be progressive and grow the UNT athletic program? -
Texas State Gets 2 for 1 With Baylor
Mean_Green09 replied to DeepGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Loading up on one FCS team and bottom tier FBS schools is okay if you're able to use those wins to recruit good players and develop talent. Which is something we are waiting on this staff to do. It also is the long term approach to building a program. And who knows how long CUSA will allow programs to play FCS schools. I agree students want to see victories and it doesnt matter who we play. Students are what make the college football atmosphere. No question Coach Mac was the right guy for the job. He dug us out of a deep black hole, but I question if he is the right guy to get us to the next level. If you hire the right guy at a G5 school he should be able to come in right away and turn things around. It shouldnt be year 5 and we are still waiting on the sleeping giant to be awoken. Yes 2013 was nice and great, but it was a team/roster that I believe a lot of coaches could have won with. I appreciate the passion that Coach Mac coaches with. I appreciate what he has done for North Texas, but I dont see him taking North Texas to a level that we all want to see. I could be wrong and wouldn't mind being wrong.
