OK first list was too young -- how about these?
Mean_Green09 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
At this point there are no realities on any type of hire. We dont even know who is making the hire. We dont know what our athletic department is willing to do. We dont know the criteria they are looking for. Are they willing to pay big bucks? Are they wanting a cheap hire? Young or Old? All the guys names being thrown around are all solid names and should be given at least interviews. -
Who Should Be The Next Head Coach @UNT

Very solid point. Id still interview him though. I think its imperative that we do our due diligence with respects to this coaching search. -

Like your Joe Moglia at Coastal Carolina. Certainly think he deserves an interview. Its out of the box thinking, but we need that. -

Norvell is relying heavily on Traylor from Gilmer right now. So I'm not that much of a fan. -
Who Should Be The Next Head Coach @UNT
Mean_Green09 replied to Eagle-96's topic in Mean Green Football
The that intrigues me about Applewhite is not necessarily the offense its the fact that I know he can recruit and I know he could assemble a great staff. I also dont think it hurts that he has been a part of a lot of different offensive schemes. He has worked with a lot of bright guys. This isnt Dodge 2.0. This is one of the brightest young minds in the game. He would bring instant respect to NT. Recruiting is a non issue. Can he fill a staff though. Also he is no longer the TE ST coach at Texas. He is the run game coordinator. -
And it's why even if he does well the rest of the season we still need a new guy leading the program.
-
As I said in our Podcast the next HC needs to call every SR QB in Texas and see if they are interested. An offensive minded coach could probably land an FBS level QB in his first class. Briles, Major, Cumbie, Riley. I bet there are a lot of QBs who want play in their systems. Fixing the QB problem should be the #1 thing the next HC should address. If he does that we might be winning sooner than yall think
-
You can make the young offensive hire just fine. And he can fix the whole damn program. The key is finding out what kind of staff he is capable of bringing in. The next HC should be paid the same as Mac, but the rest of coaching salaries need to be increased.
-
The question about Briles is : Is he ready to lead a program? Calling offense plays for Baylor isn't that tough. Should he get an interview yes, but I don't think he is ready

It's Official Chico named Interim Head Coach
Mean_Green09 replied to UNTflyer's topic in Mean Green Football
There never was co interim coaches. Just speculation. -
Anyone want to take a flyer on Randy Edsall?
Mean_Green09 replied to golfingomez's topic in Mean Green Football
No matter what I believe the next head coach has to be an offensive minded guy. Don't care where he comes from but he better be able to put large numbers of points on the board. -
Fred Scott, Blake Bean. The DL. Those guys can make some plays that make life tough on Portland St. If the defense decides to find their huevos and man up in this game they could make it a long day for Portland St. Wilson is gonna get his. Im more interested in who shows up on the D.
-
Its possible. This is a really a toss up game. Im pretty sure most people are betting on it either. You have a west coast team traveling playing a team full of dysfunction. Right now Portland St is playing better football then UNT. But you have to remember that North Texas has the #1 home field advantage. Then again North Texas is playing some really crappy football. So I mean I guess you best chance at picking this game is flipping a coin. Not sure either team reaches 30.

The Break Down: Portland St When you study Portland St you see a team that is very much capable of beating North Texas on Saturday. They are physical, pretty sound fundamentally, not overly fast, and well coached. On offense its all about their pistol rushing attack. NT has to stick to their assignments otherwise their QB Kuresa will burn them. Its the typical do your job and dont worry about being a hero game. They are very one dimensional, but dont expect them to just line up in 3 TEs and run straight at us either. First play last week against North Dakota was a 5 WR set and a deep throw to Penn. Their OL really struggles in pass blocking. I feel like our guys should have plenty of opportunity to get to the QB. Worried about their ability to hit plays off of play action. We seem to struggle with that. Yes their run defense is stingy, but its more of who they've played than anything. Still though they will fly down hill and tackle well. Primarily a zone pass defense team try to keep everything in front of them. If you listen to our podcast I like give out information call them McNuggets well here is 2 They've only given up 16 pass plays over 15 yards. North Texas has given up 25 They would rank top 15 in yards per pass attempt defense in FBS. North Texas ranks 109 in yards per pass attempt offense. The numbers would be Portland St gives up 5.6 ypa. NT gets 5.6 ypa.

What if we win against Portland State
Mean_Green09 replied to EagleGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
This isnt the get back on track cream puff that Nicholls was. This is "we are going to have to do everything we can to win this game" Portland St. If they think they are about to walk on that field and win by showing up, well they will have their asses handed to them like 24-3. -
North Texas picked 8th. Nobody on All Conference Team IRVING, Texas - Coming off a win in the 2015 NCAA Tournament after earning the league’s automatic berth, the UAB Blazers were selected the preseason favorite to win the Conference USA men's basketball regular-season crown in 2015-16, according to the league's coaches. UAB head coach Jerod Haase returns all five starters from last year’s squad that posted a 20-16 overall record and won its first C-USA Championship in men’s basketball. Tournament MVP Robert Brown was named to the preseason All-Conference Team, along with Blazer sophomore William Lee. Brown led UAB in scoring 20 times in 36 games last season, including 23 ppg in a pair of NCAA Tournament games. He tossed in 21 points in the Blazers’ NCAA win over Iowa State and added 25 points in the third-round loss to UCLA. A 6-9 forward, Lee is the youngest member of the preseason team. He also joined Brown as a member of the C-USA All-Tournament Team, along with earning a spot on the All-Freshman Team. Lee ended the season strong, averaging 12.7 points and 7.2 rebounds in the Blazers’ final nine games of the season. http://www.conferenceusa.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/100715aab.html

Well we make everyone look like a good football team. Mac sits in his office watching the film thinking to himself "Damn we are going to make those guys look REALLY good" -

North Dakota is better than we are too. They beat Wyoming. Its not that they are big on the line its that they play fundamental football. They are very physical. Also want to point out that they have 8 ints this year too. So passing the ball maybe more difficult -
Can we hire the guy we should have hired in 2010 now?
Mean_Green09 replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
Those two guys would carry their own respect with Texas HS coaches and do just fine. Not many Texas HS coaches respected June Jones and SMU was down. Chad Morris came in and now all of a sudden they respect the program again. It has more to do with the staff and their relationships now a days then the name on the jersey. Major knows more Texas HS coaches than Riley does, and probably more than an FCS hire would. -
MGB: McCarney says there is no such thing as a "gamer"
Mean_Green09 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
The QB situation isn't on McNulty. It's not his decision. It's not his job to say who starts or who sits. It's not his job to call plays. It's not his job to evaluate talent. Anyone who thinks this is McNultys fault is just wrong. This is all on McCarney and his staff. No reason for us to throw McNulty under the bus anymore. He has competed to the best of his ability. Which isn't much. Let's not act McNulty was a prime QB prospect who has underperformed. He has probably outperformed low expectations. He should've never been a starter at this level.
