  1. Haha right. Frost may be on the radar of a team like Houston if Herman takes another job.
  2. I will confirm that at least 7 people were interviewed as of Saturday night. Names were not shared.
  3. Im going to say that things evolve over time. One minute you hear a guy has no interest and the next minute he does. I'm by no means an insider and I dont do this for a living. This coaching search has been fun to cover so far. One minute you look like you know what your talking about, the next you look like an ass. Its been fun to reach out to other insiders and to actually have them converse with me about what we are hearing on our end. Baylor people say its unlikely to happen, but thats only half of the story. Now we have to run down the UNT side of the story. All I will say is stay with me. Its going to be a bumpy ride until we have white smoke from the Administration building at UNT.
  4. Not really. Proper coaching, better scheme and he can be better. Its pretty obvious Smith has more tools than Thompson. Thompson had the same offense for all his years here. He had stability. Had all those years to learn the offense. You cant really compare Smith to Thompson at this point. Not sure you can sit there and call the guy awful at this point. Give him a full spring and summer in a program with better coaching and an offense designed to fit his skills and then we will talk. Lets say you bring in a guy like Cumbie or Applewhite and let them rebuild Smith. Smith has a decent year passing with somewhere around 55% completion percentage and 2800 yards or more. Well he would draw way more NFL interest that Thompson ever did.
  5. I would seriously question his ability to put together a great supporting staff. What are his connections outside of Baylor? Would he just be leaning on his Dad to help him fill a staff? I was told he would want a better job or his Dad's. His offense would be great. He could recruit like crazy. He could make us a trendy pick for the second tier recruits. His vertical offense would fit Smith. Not sure I trust him running the day to day stuff of a program.
  6. Probably just make it up, bc not many people care if he is wrong about reporting on the job opening. Not sure how Briles name got thrown out there. Multiple people have said that he isnt interested. Baylor people think Briles name will be thrown out a lot more for other jobs. They said there is no smoke to the report of his name being mentioned for UNT.
  7. Applewhite left on his own Id like us to move away from the term "splash hire" and focus on the right hire.
  8. The thing I like the most about Smith is his competitive spirit. I just like the way he goes out there and lays all on the line. The block he threw for Wilson when JW reversed his field man that was fun to watch. Obvisouly I'd like him to protect himself more, but damn I admire the competitiveness. He is certainly a guy we can win with.
  9. Giddy bc we beat a team that has a fan base that talks loads of crap. They overrated themselves coming into this game expecting a shutout. Weve got plenty of starters banged up too and played our 3rd string QB. We've got a really good run offense. We played hard when there was nothing to play for. We looked like a prepared team. Enjoy the win. Nitpick later. Wheeeeeeee!
  10. You know that TD against Marshall was our 2's vs Marshall's 2's. Still garbage time, but it wasnt 1s on 1s. http://meangreennation.com/breakdown-texas-san-antonio-utsa/ I think we match-up pretty good with them. Im not that impressed by their defense as some are. We are doing enough right now on offense to win this game. If we play the way we did against Marshall in the second half then Id expect us to win. Their offense is pretty limited with Dalton Sturm. NT can pressure him into mistakes. No reason for us not to load the box and stop the run. This is a very winnable game. We bottomed out vs Portland St and have been improving each week. One could make the argument that UTSA is trending down.
  11. Tonight 8:30ish @aztecskin and myself will be talking North Texas sports. Agenda for tonight's awesomely riveting show: - Breaking down North Texas vs. UTSA. Is it our first win? Is it a rivalry? Where does North Texas have the advantage in the game? - North Texas Soccer. Hey someone is winning. - Coaching Search/RV - Your questions/issues/comments. If you post'em here or twitter we will cover it.
  12. If North Texas wants Applewhite they can get him. Pure and simple. He would be willing to talk if they show the interest. No one else is going to offer him the opportunity that NT would.
  13. Would like to see black uniforms and green helmets
  14. Jeff Monken - Army
  15. I'll talk a little bit about what I think and know since I kinda stirred up the pot with the Fritz talk. The folks that cover GSU have the same views as many do on here. That he would most likely wait for a better offer which could come this year or maybe next year. They eluded too GSU having a better team next year and getting a lot of their tough opponents at home. They dont view North Texas as having enough resources and $ to land Fritz. They arent sure whether he would want to make the leap back to Texas. They dont know why he would leave for NT and have to build up the program when he has one built at GSU. So look its going to take one helluva a sell job from RV to get his number one target. My thinking on how this would work is that Fritz may not be a top tier candidate for every job. He may be that 5th guy on some teams wish list. If he is the #1 on ours now then we have plenty of time to talk with his agent. Let the agent know how much we'd be willing to pay and what not. Really show the love. GSU has had 2 coaches previously hired to bigger programs. Paul Johnson who went on to Navy and Jeff Monken who went on to Army. Maybe the GSU carries a stigma with it of just being an option team. Fritz is 55 so he likely to not make many more moves. Does he just wait it out at GSU or does he take the cash and run to NT and live out the rest of his days? Im not obsessed with Fritz, but I do consider him the surest coach out there within our range. I think he would make North Texas an instant contender for the CUSA title every year. I believe he'd be able to develop his players and I dont think he'd have any problem landing a FBS level QB. There are plenty of read option QBs in Texas who would fit his scheme. Hell he'd have Smith for year one and RBs Wilson and Ivery. With Fritz at the helm NT could be back to leading the nation in rushing. So while Fritz isnt flashy he is as solid as they come. He is Doc Holliday solid. He'd most likely build it and stay for the rest of his career.
  16. Correct he might be on a few, but how many will have him as their top choice. UNT has a chance if they show him lots of love. He is their first choice.
  17. Fritz is that top choice. Let's see if they can make him jump. Back up the dump truck full of cash for him and his staff. Roll out the green carpet
  18. Would you trust him if paid 1 million to Fritz?
  19. Willie Fritz is the number 1 target for UNT
  20. I dont have our top five, but I will tell you the #1 guy http://meangreennation.com/mgn-coach-search-tracker/
