MGB: Benford says he will be back, confident in future
Mean_Green09 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Off the court no issues, but on the court plenty of issues. He just lead his team to one of the worst defensive seasons in the history of this program when you are talking about defensive efficiency. He has tried to build this program around quick fixes instead of the way most mid major teams have. Look if next year we had a bunch of seniors who have played together for 4 years Id be a little less harsh. Instead we have a bunch of guys playing with each other in their 2nd or 1st year. Frazier is nice, but he isn't a savior. We don't know if he will even ever step foot on the floor. He has not improved in one big area- getting the most out of his players. He has brought in some talented guys yet we still lose. He can't get a group of guys to play well together. We are just wasting time next year. It's a dead program and everyone that covers basketball in this region and nationally will tell you that. They specifically talk about the administration too. -

MGB: All quiet on the hoops front

Id say when we are talking basketball resources they are pretty equal. The Southland and the Sun Belt were pretty equal when it came to basketball competition too. The Southland had a couple of other really good teams during those 13 years. Sam Houston, UTSA, and Northwestern St. -

The National perception of Jones right now seems to be a nice guy who can't coach very well.
-
All these conference tournaments have put out some really good basketball games. The quality of play has been really good especially in the mid major games. Hopefully the big dance can produce the same close hotly contested games.

Lazy, but I'd take Jones over Benford next year. I'd take Jones over a lot of candidates.

I predicted that WKU would be UAB. I think the winner of La Tech ODU has a good shot to win CUSA

Ben Braun a former coach isnt going to throw shade on another coach.
-
She has far less talent then Benford had in his first year. She beat the team she was forced to face by the way bracket was laid out. Its a W.
-
Well we've improved our offensive efficiency and are shooting nearly 50% from inside the arc. BUT our defensive efficiency is crap and way down from last year.
-
Im wondering if this team will quit like last years team did against Rice and they didnt. WKU was just the better team. We gave a far better effort than last year against Rice.
-
They owned us last time too. They had 17 offensive rebounds against us the last time we played
-
we are getting owned on the glass 20-13
-
Yes Coaching.
-
Well how often did they ask him to be a scorer? Wish he had another year.
-
Sorry forgot his name. I know you've mentioned it before. Ex WKU coach who didnt fare well at South Carolina. I'd think he'd be a great choice too.

North Texas' Jeremy Combs out shooting in during warm ups. #CUSAChamp

Its too bad that Holston isnt a better outside shooter. That would allow us to really spread the floor today. I think we are going to have a tough time defending the paint today. Especially with a limited Combs or maybe even no Combs. Ray Harper is 9-2 in conference tourneys. Benford has only won once. I give WKU the advantage in Coaching, Front Court, and Back Court. I do think WKU could beat UAB next round http://meangreennation.com/cusa-basketball-tournament-talk/

MGB: UNT-FAU women's hoops running blog
Mean_Green09 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
She is in her first year with way less talent and has only 1 less win than Tony Benford this year. Its very enjoyable to watch a well coach team. FAU made a couple of nice runs, but NT responded well. I thought they were in trouble after giving up the big lead. Gonna be a tough game. They've beat us twice, but at least we played better the second time around and it was a road game. Hopefully we can control that Simms girl who had 33 on us last time we faced them. -
He won't get it if Benford is the coach. Combs is deserving and should be better next year. I hope he improves his on ball defense and continues to work on that mid range jumper.
