Ah hell, what would it take to unite us instead of going at each others throats? Maybe I'm an idealist or something (maybe delusional), but I see us as a Mean Green Family. I mean, some of these insults would affect me if it were directed at me. @Censored by Laurie might say that I have a problem or lack the ability to comprehend humor or something (btw, i'll contribute to your run with my next paycheck, if i can still give on 11/1). This kind of stuff is what I fear people seeing when they want to check our validity. From the outsider, it looks like we're just lashing out in all directions. Wardly's question seems fair enough to me. Some of us are making the point that contributions to UNT are going to be lost if RV remains the AD. But if that's an argument we're using and only 10% of us making that claim actually contribute to the university, how valid are our threats (for lack of a better word)? I know some people are saying that they WOULD give if he were no longer AD, but unrealized (and non-guaranteed) revenue is not as concrete as the dollars that are actually coming in. I can say that I would give $10,000 if he were fired, but what guarantee is there that I actually will? Who knows if I even have that capacity? (I dont.) I've met so many of you in person and know you're great people. It kills me to see y'all being so rude to one another. We can disagree without name calling. Again, maybe the problem is me and I'm just missing something. Maybe I'm oversensitive. But maybe I'm not. BTW, down votes are a very real, visual indication of a person's perception of you. Three little red arrows may be just that, but in reality it means that three people disliked what you said enough to indicate such and no one likes being told they're wrong. Slam me for having that belief or for being born in the year/generation i was born in, if you must. IDK, maybe if enough of you are pissed at me, you can unite to come at me and maybe we can heal this rift in our Mean Green Clan.

I'm starting to really regret requesting one email to comment on this thread...lol

@TheTastyGreek I didn't want to read it at first because it was hard and I like to give up quickly (also because I am still seeing wavy green stripes after reading it). I'm glad I did, though. I think you nailed it. I wish you would alter so it is addressed to the president and I would do everything in my power to hand deliver it to him on game day.

I would love it if there were a very public way to take the money that was set aside for this banner and re-purposed for something productive. A way for a message to be sent very clearly to RV, Smaetresk, and the BoR saying, "We have such passionate fans that we raised $2,000 in less than 24 hours. We are a resource you are not adequately tapping and major change is required if you ever want to do so. We wanted to shame you for your shortcomings, but we have instead chosen to contribute to productive change. Please do not squander our gift or make us regret our generosity." I imagine that them seeing these articles about the banner makes them think, "Jeeze, these wackos again. Thank God we ignore them." Redirecting the funds to something that is supportive of them would, in my opinion, stand a good chance of altering their perspective. "Oh, maybe they're more level-headed than I gave them credit for. They used their frustrations not to spite us, but focused their energy to further the university's cause." I know many of us have been burned so many times that this seems incredibly far-fetched, but I think the odds of my scenario are still more likely than the likelihood of positive change resulting from this banner flying.

RV: Dodge was a good hire based on who we could hire

This thread is dripping with sarcasm and I love it. -
It seems like this post is intended to bait people into an argument. Why?

I like this idea too.

Surprise, surprise - this thread is about RV

I want to give you all upvotes, but I burn through them too quickly so I have none to give right now. I don't think you finished reading. What you said comes across as kind of rude. It seems like you're slamming me for wanting to keep him when I don't want to keep him at all. It's unnecessary. Lol, I guess it was just gullible ol' me as an undergrad then. This. 100%. -

Following the loss to Portland State, I started hoping we would completely clean house, practically from the GAs to the AD (ok, especially the AD). Outside of the 0-5 start, I had heard countless anecdotes related to the state of the Athletic Department under Rick Villareal's leadership. My wife worked in that department for two years and took a significant pay cut to escape it. My younger sister still interns there. Basically, my reasons for wanting Rick V. gone boiled down to five points. 1. He disrespected Coach Mac by firing him in front of the players. 2. He can't pick coaches. 2.b. His scheduling is terrible. 3. He can't fund raise at the level UNT should be fundraising. 4. His ties to other schools diminishes his loyalty to UNT. 5. He is just a plain ol' bad person whose personality permeates the department he leads. However, after talking to my wife about it, I altered my perspective. As much as she hated working for UNT's Athletic Department and as terrible of a leader as she saw RV to be, she did not agree with me that he should lose his job. EDIT: I STILL VERY MUCH WANT RICK V. GONE, AND AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. JUST MAYBE, HE DOESN'T DESERVE AS MUCH FLAK AS WE'VE GIVEN HIM OR WITH THE VERACITY WITH WHICH WE HAVE DONE SO. 1. We've already learned that this story was altered quite a bit. Although it may not have been handled as well as it could have been, it certainly wasn't Hitler-esque evil. 2. (I'll ignore how great all our other sports are doing and just talk about the big 3.) Basketball may be a different story, but I know that when Coach Mac came in, I was more than happy to give him a shot. And he did exactly what he said he would (or so it seemed). Mac built up the program (apparently) and by Year 3 we had our first bowl game victory in over a decade. I think very few people foresaw the falloff that followed. I can understand criticizing an AD that gambles on a coach or picks poor coaches, but I'm feeling more and more like my criticisms stemmed more from being mad that RV wasn't a wizard who could predict that Mac wouldn't pan out after HoD. Which leads us to... 2.b. I'm looking at our schedule and trying to ignore the six straight Ls. Season opener against SMU. A game at Iowa and SoMiss followed by a homecoming against an FCS team before facing WKU at home. Going away to Marshall before playing UTSA at home on Halloween. On and on...I just imagine this schedule for our 2013 team. And believe me, I know they are a different team. But if we believed that Mac would continue to build our program, this schedule would be stellar. Maybe pull an upset at Iowa, ride that into a victory at SoMiss, blow out Portland at home and ride that into a big W against WKU, which carries over to Marshall which carries over to UTSA (let's face it, our closest thing to a rival) on Halloween, which was HUGE in 2013. If our program had kept growing, we would easily be 6-0 with two straight wins against SMU. Who predicted that SMU, SoMiss, and LaTech would turn things around in two years since we wiped the floor with them in 2013? If things had played out differently, I could very well be praising RV for this awesome schedule that highlights our awesome and growing team. 3. I still think this one is true. At this point, we need to grow more than I think he is capable of cultivating. But I fear that, were he fired, the 17 (all we have right now) would be gone and it would be a painful journey to get back to where we are now. 4. There's no beating around the bush on this one - I just felt that way because I was mad. As an Eagle Ambassador, I got tons of opportunities to see RV speak and meet him across various venues. When the guy speaks, he can get little kids excited about eating vegetables. If that is what his spirit looks like when his passion is diluted, I can't imagine what he must be like at 100%. Bottom line, I don't think he is disloyal to UNT in any way, even if his loyalties to other schools shine through from time to time. 5. This one I still kind of believed. I have no idea how the Athletic Department could be so dysfunctional without stemming from him. My wife had a good point though - it is possible to be a terrible leader and not a bad guy. She laughed when I showed her his email responses to our calls for him to be fired because she said that definitely came from his secretary. Emails from him are filled with typos and grammar errors and omissions. But she knows this because he would personally send emails around the holidays and special occasions to wish everyone a good time and tell little anecdotes. Stuff a swell guy would do. Bottom line, he may be an idiot, but he could very well be a lovable idiot. Not saying this to say I've changed my position and he should keep his job. Actually, I really wish he would step down and let us move on. I think, if he had done that, we might not lose the 17 and we could continue grow. I just had a big change in perspective and thought I might give others (who are willing to sift through all my ramblings) the opportunity to do so. It is easy to criticize him, given the circumstances. But if the situation went the other way, I know I wouldn't be calling for his head. So even though I wish he would step down, I'm reminding myself that he's just a guy. I'm probably no smarter than him and if I were in his place I'd probably be fighting for my job too. Maybe, just maybe, he is not concentrated evil.

That was one of the most pleasant reads I've ever had on another team's message board... Although they seem to think way too highly of us, as a message board, and our track record of affecting change. Lol.

1. Now Chico HAS to suspend him for at least part of the game to show he's serious. If he doesn't, he tells the team there is no accountability. Sadly, even if he does, it looks like the team is still divided and hurts the team by taking out a great player in a game against a great opponent. 2. Carlos, pay attention in class and play ball. If you can't stop distracting yourself, delete your Twitter account until you can handle it or until your team is winning. 3. If you can't handle this, I sure hope you don't want to go pro...

I may get obliterated on this question...
Tyler Maryak replied to Tyler Maryak's topic in Mean Green Football
And this is a good example of the political/administrative stuff i don't know much about. so Chico has not been successful in his recruiting responsibilities, eh? Dang... Exactly. Earn a real extension instead of ending up in a situation where we're buying out for $2M again. Again, assuming RV is still here. -
I may get obliterated on this question...
Tyler Maryak replied to Tyler Maryak's topic in Mean Green Football
This is really part of the situation I had in mind but didn't explicitly state. If RV is still around, I'd almost rather give a guy who is passionate about UNT a shot over risking anything else. This would be most ideal. -
I don't know really anything about the politics of college football, so I'm sure there are reasons why this is a bad idea, but I'm curious, so I'll ask. If Canales does what he did in 2010 and wins 3 or 4 games for the rest of this season somehow, why shouldn't we offer him the HC job? Maybe just one year for now, to see what he can do. Let him bring in his own OC and see what happens. It seems like we're going to have to start the recruiting battle basically fresh anyway, so could it really hurt that much? Canales is impressing me with his press conference so far (particularly RE: social media use). Hearing the man speak, he's convincing me that he has the makings of a good leader. Anyway, feel free to educate me...just please be gentle! Thanks MGfam.

How Easy is the buyout for Rick V?
Tyler Maryak replied to meanJewGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Oh good, I'm glad all the people I spoke to were mistaken. That would be.terrible if he had done that. Do you have a link to something showing that has been shown to be untrue? I just looked for 15 minutes and can't find anything. -

How Easy is the buyout for Rick V?
Tyler Maryak replied to meanJewGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
I kind of wonder if Rick V thinks that cutting Mac saves his hide for a couple more years. I hope he isn't so arrogant as to think so. And if the rumors are true about the fact with which he handled the firing, I hope he's gone on Monday.
