  1. I don't think it's wise to cast an entire group out from candidacy. All about who will be the best fit for us. That said, I agree that these guys might be a bit of a risk on the recruiting front.
  2. I can't wait to spend eight months speculating about shades of green and the shapes of birds on helmets.
  3. I heard on the radio this morning that the college bowl committee is trying to figure out what to do if there aren't enough teams to fill the 80 slots available. Here's a related article: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/college/ct-college-football-bowl-games-20151123-story.html I've noticed people complaining in the past about the number of bowl games, but I never really considered how silly it is. With 40 bowls, that means 80 teams go to the post season. We have, what, 128 FBS teams right now? So that means that teams in the bottom half of college football go to bowl games. Literally below average. Shoot, I wish the workplace was like that. "Hey, I know you're performing just below expectations, but here's a little bonus anyway because the CEO feels compelled to get as many people a bonus as possible." Anyway, just a thought to change up the topic a little bit.
  4. I started thinking this right about the time Navy was putting a beat down on #22 Memphis.
  5. my confidence was not ready to read that... That being said, it is interesting to do a search for Kendall Briles on Twitter. Some harsh criticisms.
  6. I feel like some of us will point out reasons that any coach COULD fail just so we can be right if, five years from now, they do fail then we can say we knew it all along. So, as is tradition:Nick Saban would not do well here because green is opposite red on the color wheel. Boom. Bases covered.
  7. How does this list compare to what we were seeing when Mac was hired?
  8. might as well come freeze to death. I'm already dead inside. Hahahaha. I kid, I kid... But I will be there. In full gear.
  9. I think 1 & 2 kind of go together because I think the young guys are what interest recruits right now. The only reason I didn't go with #1 is because I don't think we can get a good enough HC and still get good assistants. Otherwise, get a coach with tig ol bitties willing to wear tassles to every home game.
  10. Okay, here I come with another potentially silly question related to this quote: "UNT officials said right off the bat that they would like to have someone in place shortly after the end of the season so that they can get started recruiting right away." How likely is it that this aspiration will limit our potential coaches pool to those at schools not going to bowl games (or the CFB Playoffs, as may be the case with Riley)?
  11. I love the threads directed to someone in specific because they hardly ever get a comment from that person. lolz
  12. Several people have said it perfectly, but I'll reiterate the points relevant for me, a student from 2008-2012. When I came in, the student perception was almost entirely apathy. Going to football games was something to do if you had no money and nowhere else to be. I was in numerous student organizations, so i was on the most extreme end of UNT fandom, which isn't saying much. For us, our hope was always "next season will be better." Going into my first year, everyone was saying that Riley Dodge was going to find his stride this season. The next season it was an easy schedule, if I remember correctly. Then Mac came in and the rest is history. As has been said, once we got to 1-6 or whatever in football, we started planning for basketball. Soccer and volleyball also gave us an alternative outlet, but again, we were some of the more dedicated student fans. This era is so much worse, for the reasons listed. My sister is now a junior at UNT and from speaking with her, I get the impression that students are a lot less apathetic. If you ever see the Twitter feuds between our students and A&M, TCU, SMU, etc. students, you will probably agree. There are innumerably fewer excuses as a CUSA school with a beautiful stadium and top-of-the-line budget. When you spend money like we do, it sets a large stage. Everyone was waiting for "the turnaround season" and thought 2013 was it. The further we get from it, the larger the frustration grows, especially with things like the now-infamous "accounting errors." People want something to point to that is a large and glaring positive, and we have nothing. I'm sad to say that soccer, golf, and a great music program are never going to gain UNT consistent national media coverage.
  13. I miss Derek Thompson like I missed my old 4x4 Dodge Ram after I got an F150. Sure, it was what I needed at the time and got me through some tough mud, but it never would have lasted and if I had kept it I would still be bitching about all the things on it that need fixing.
  14. Yeah, I'd be a lot more excited if we could have found the endzone.
  15. A little much ***Editied by KingDL1*** Haha, j/k, idgaf. But you are often insulting, bro. I'm not talking about saying "you're wrong, and here's why I believe so." I'm talking about name-calling which you must admit you've done. Maybe you're right and it is my generation or maybe it's how mama raised me, but I feel like any time I want to call someone names, I'm already wrong. EDIT: you can probably find examples from when i first got on here where I did exactly what I'm condemning now, but I'm not as hot-headed as I once was. Hopefully that means I've matured. Also, I'm not gonna condemn anyone who is still a hothead because I remember the uncontrollable burning itch passion. But if I can spare someone from becoming entangled in interminable bickering, I'll try.
  16. I'm not trying to argue with you, I just thought I would say this before 90 says it and insults you in the process. 90's point was that they knew about our humiliating defeat well before they were thinking about us as their opponent. I could be wrong, but I got the impression from Rex's post that he would have heard of something that embarrassing even if they were not playing us at all this season. Of course, we may never know if that is true or not, so maybe we don't have to spend time speculating.
  17. AND WE'RE THE GUY IN THE MIDDLE...
  18. Maybe this is who is responsible for UNT's program rebuilding. Maybe THAT is why it never seems to stick...
  19. Exactly. I look at that shopping center mess on the corner of 35 and 288 (north side) and wonder, "man, what did they think would happen when they put this here?" I see people saying that building Apogee before getting consecutive winning seasons was doing it backwards. I'm not 100% sold on that belief, but this idea certainly seems to be the epitome of that argument. We're banking on businesses coming to Denton when we have a nice convention center? Outside of university-related events, why would the come here as opposed to Frisco/Plano/Dallas/Fort Worth/Addison/etc/etc/etc? If it's on now, I guess I'll just wait and see how it plays out...
  20. I wonder...would it be better to fight tooth and nail for pride and probably see a score similar to LaTech, or get young guys in there to gain some experience? No reason we can't get some benefits from this game as well...
  21. This news on the same day as the new union video? Have I died? Disclaimer: I know an interview doesn't mean we'll land him or even that this is who we'll want at the end of the season, but I like the caliber we're interviewing.
