That's pretty respectable given the record and the opponent.

The Vikings went into the North Dakota game having relied heavily on the run and without having showed a lot in the passing game — and not much changed. PSU had trouble throwing the ball, other than Kuresa’s 76-yard TD slant pass-and-run to fleet Grant High graduate Paris Penn on the team’s first play from scrimmage. North Dakota was playing to stop the run first, which led to PSU gaining only 97 yards on 30 carries. “When that’s happening, we need to throw the football better,” Barnum says. “When there’s eight or nine (defenders) in the box, two more than us, we have to distribute to our receivers until we loosen you up.” By loading up defensively near the line of scrimmage, North Dakota was locked into playing man-to-man coverage on Portland State’s receivers, and the Vikings couldn’t make them pay for it. “If someone’s going to go man against us consistenly, we’ve got to throw the football and get them back into zone,” Barnum says. “This game is simple: If they’re in man, throw it. In zone, run it. That’s football 101. I’ve talked to (offensive coordinator) Steve Cooper about how we have to improve that part of our game.” Overall, when it comes to run-pass, “we need to get to 50-50,” Barnum says. Through four games, the Vikings are at 75 percent run, 25 percent pass. The Vikings suffered one key injury in the North Dakota game, losing standout cornerback Aaron Sibley to a pulled hamstring. Sibley, also a key contributor on special teams, has had problems with that in the past, and the Vikings went into the week waiting to see if scar tissue was the issue this time and could be treated enough for him to get back on the field at North Texas. North Texas quarterback Andrew McNulty is a 6-1, 210-pound senior from Iowa City, Iowa (North Texas coach Dan McCarney is an Iowa graduate who used to coach there and at Iowa State). McNulty has completed 60 of 126 passes (47.6 percent) for 699 yards and three touchdowns in the Mean Green’s 0-4 start, with four interceptions. View full article

These five teams will enter the weekend still seeking their first triumph of the season. Central Florida (0-5): The Golden Knights have already lost to Furman, and could be winless into November if they don’t beat Connecticut at home this week. Temple, Houston and Cincinnati await George O’Leary’s suddenly woeful team after that. Kansas (0-4): The undermanned Jayhawks opened the season with a loss to South Dakota State, were easily handled by a dysfunctional Rutgers team and have already played (and lost) their most winnable Big 12 game (last week at Iowa State). It’s a tough situation, and one unlikely to yield a triumph before the end of November. New Mexico State (0-4): A visit to Mississippi on Saturday will not cure what ails the Aggies, who have dropped 14 in a row dating back to last season and have just two victories over FBS schools since the start of the 2012 season. New Mexico State might have to make the most of back-to-back home games against Troy and Idaho at the end of the month to avoid its first winless season since 2005. North Texas (0-4): Gets Portland State (which stole a check from Washington State earlier this season) on Saturday. Plus, it’s not as if Conference USA is littered with heavyweights. On the down side, the Mean Green do draw both Marshall and Western Kentucky in crossover games. Nonetheless, this is far from the greatest threat to go 0-for-2015. Wyoming (0-5): Another team with a loss to a FCS school, the Cowboys have dropped home games to North Dakota and Eastern Michigan in nonconference play and find themselves on the far tougher half of the Mountain West. Three of their next four are on the road, with the an Oct. 17 date against struggling Nevada coming in Laramie. View Full Article

UTSA played very well on the road against #22 ranked Arizona. Let's see if they can play mistake free football and get the schools first P5 victory. UTSA is everyone's dark horse to win the West. Their freshman QB is extremely good. Bill Snyder teams are well coached and tough as nails. This should be a good one. Go Runners!

The new enrollment numbers are out and UNT now has over 37,000 students. Our athletic department has done an outstanding job of engaging the students since coach Mac arrived. With these kinds of numbers don't be surprised if the Mean Green Nation starts swelling as these kids graduate.

But there are calls of nepotism and the messages boards are fuming as the son of our OL coach, Mack Leftwich, gets the QB job. To be fair, it has been a heated competition between 4 decent QBs and Coach Kugler has worked hard in the off season to put some new wrinkles into our two dimensional offense. Last year it was run, run, run and make a pass occasionally. This year we'll see a Wild Cat offense and there should be a more developed passing attack. Our optimistic fans believe that Coach Kugler has some tricks up his sleeve and others think that we'll see a plain vanilla running game, like last year. If you think UTEP is going to stomped, or not, you can join our prediction thread and win a $50 gift Certificate at the UTEP bookstore. Predict the score. About UTEPs QB battle.

A Sunbelt press conference on Tuesday will announce the addition of Coastal Carolina. Looks like they beat out Eastern Kentucky for the slot. Very good addition.

Pretty close IMO. The top three match up pretty good and question marks in both divisions after that. Marshall WKU MT VS. LA Tech Rice UTEP ODU is transitioning from the Heinicke era so we'll see how that goes. With some positive news regarding the defense out of camp and some solid weapons remaining at RB &WR I'm hopeful we can maintain the competitiveness level from last year. We finished .500 in conference but each of those four wins were decided by a last minute feildgoal. On the other side of that equation FAU lost 4 games last year by a fieldgoal. They were a better team than the results show and I think either FL team could have a good year if they can bring it together. Charlotte's probably not there yet and play the whipping boy this season. In the west USM fans are feeling confident they'll make some noise this year. I wish them well, they're certainly due but does improvement mean 5 wins? Bowl game? In the top of the west? Trouncing Miss St? I'm excited to find out. I honestly don't know much about UTSA or UNT's situation but I'll take the fact that we're not hearing too much crowing from them to mean they're not expecting much or at least taking a wait and see approach. It may be that Eastern bias but I think the east takes the title and ends stronger top to bottom. But again it's close. And sadly I think UAB would have pushed the west if not for He Who Must Not Be Named.

Said on his Instagram, Tyrell Tomlin will join Marshall. He is a former class of 2014 player 4-star coming out of HS and the 16th ranked ILB in the class. He was recently ruled ineligible at UNC. He played in 10 games last season as a freshman. So, he will have 3 years to play 3 after sitting out.

http://247sports.com/Player/Quentin-Jackson-33517 247 ranks him a 4 star with a national ranking of 109. Held 27 offers including Tennessee, Iowa State, Temple, Miss. State, Kansas State, Houston, UCF, and more. Tomorrow we host a 4 star power forward, John Fulkerson. The Mark Price brand seems to be carrying some weight and Charlotte is for real. We have a lot of solid players with legit offers considering us. Can't wait to see Coach Price's guys actually take the court. Not sure what to expect this season, but he has me feeling good about the future.

The Texas Longhorns have added the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs to their 2019 football schedule, the school announced today. Texas will host Louisiana Tech at Darrell K Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin on Aug. 31, 2019. The game will be the season-opener and the first-ever meeting on the gridiron between the two schools. As a result of adding Louisiana Tech, the Longhorns have moved their previously scheduled game vs. USF on the same date to Sept. 5, 2020. Both the addition of LA Tech and the USF change are dependent on approval from the UT System Board of Regents. Louisiana Tech now has three non-conference games set for 2019. The Bulldogs also travel to Bowling Green on Sept. 14 and later host UMass on Oct. 19. http://www.fbschedules.com/2015/08/texas...-schedule/
