Year of the QBs: C-USA gunslingers among nation's best FOUR CONFERENCE USA QBS ENJOYING HUGE YEARS Conference USA is home to four quarterbacks who have passing yardage numbers that rank top 15 in the country. Western Kentucky's Brandon Doughty, Southern Miss' Nick Mullens, Middle Tennessee's Brent Stockstill and Louisiana Tech's Jeff Driskel are all enjoying huge statistical years

Quote:To date, UAB has the No. 1 recruiting class in Conference USA. It's ranked No. 66 nationally. As has always been the plan with this first rebound recruiting class, UAB is chasing junior college prospects, guys with college experience that will be able to contribute effectively in the program's first year back. With the big names that UAB is landing, the roster is going to look very familiar to fans of some of the top programs in the country. http://247sports.com/Bolt/UAB-repurposin...t-40972276

Tough game to lose, especially after being so close. But in the end, MTSU got it done, and the Herd didn't. Now, take care of business the rest of the way and win the ones you should (meaning, of course, all of 'em) and lock in your bowl eligibility. Hey. At least the game was interesting, if nothing else...

Quote:Financing would allow the construction to begin, even if all funds were not "in hand." The Board expressed its support for that process to be sped up during the physical properties committee meeting. Quote:The UAB Athletics Foundation also indicated that there are discussions about the BJCC and City of Birmingham possibly constructing a multi-purpose stadium suitable for football, and asked the Board for support of UAB being a long-term tenant for the stadium. http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2015/...roval.html

http://www.underdogdynasty.com/conferenc...ch-in-2016 -------------------------------------------------------------------- The Five CUSA Teams Most Likely To Have A New Head Coach in 2016 By Jeremy Adcock @cfoutpost on Nov 4, 2015, 3:00p + Mark Zerof-USA TODAY Sports With ten head coaching jobs open on the FBS level already, it would not be a huge surprise if one or two were filled by CUSA coaches. There will also be situations with a CUSA program going in a different route and bringing in a new coach for 2016. This season has brought forth the biggest divide of the haves and have nots in Conference USA since the addition of several Sun Belt teams. There is a huge gap between the top teams like Western Kentucky, Marshall, and Louisiana Tech versus the bottom of the conference. There are 13 football programs in Conference USA. At least one of those programs, possibly many, will have new head coaches for the 2016 season. Some will have changes due to massive failure, while others will have to make a change due to massive success. Let's take a look at the five teams that are mostly likely to make a change, whether from success or failure. North Texas: This is the only guaranteed change as they have already fired their head coach. Interim head coach Mike Canales should, but probably wont, get a fair shot at getting his interim label removed. If they do not go with Canales, it will be interesting to see what direction those in charge of the Mean Green go. I would expect a young coordinator or a FCS coach looking to make a splash at the FBS level. Western Kentucky: While I am not saying he will take a new job, Jeff Brohm's stock will be very high if the Hilltoppers finish the season strong. His name has already been mentioned with several different openings, and some team will try to poach him from WKU. Brohm seems very happy with WKU, but it is hard to turn down a possible dream job. Expect to hear his name with nearly every job opening. Marshall: Doc Holliday is a little older than what power five programs normally like to hire, but he is an excellent head coach that has Marshall in the running for a conference title on a yearly basis. He is on pace for his third straight 10+ win season with the Thundering Herd. Holliday is extremely happy at Marshall and would not leave unless the perfect job came open. I think there will be many suitors, but Holliday will be at Marshall in 2016. Florida International: Always the wild card, no one really knows what the Panthers will do. Logically, they would give Turner a fourth season to get the team to a bowl game, but who really knows. Considering the fact that they led Mario Cristobal go after a 3-9 season that followed back to back bowl berths, it would not surprise me to see Ron Turner fired. Instability has been the name of the game at FIU since the football program was started. Anything could happen at FIU and I would not be surprised. Southern Miss: Every year, there is a coach that takes his team from a cellar dweller to one of the better in the conference and gets poached by a larger program. The coach that fits that category is Todd Monken. The fact that he has won more games in 2015 than in his two previous seasons combined has caught the eye of other programs. The main reason to believe that Monken will be in Hattiesburg for the long term is the fear of a team poaching him and finding out that he is a one year wonder. If he puts in two or three seasons of top level CUSA football, schools will be knocking down his door to talk with him. Do you agree or disagree? Could we see a surprise defection from the CUSA coaching ranks after this season? Let me know in the comments and we can have a discussion.View the full article

Footballscoop did a listing of the best available minority head coaching candidates. Definitely some solid names to consider on there. Jay Norvell at Texas is just one example. http://footballscoop.com/news/minority-head-coaching-candidates-that-warrant-a-closer-look/

If Fritz won't leave what about calling Mickey Mathews? He is a good coach and has had success at the smaller school level. -
How did these guys drop 50 on USM? They look turrible against Georgia Southern. Tyler Jones, who passed for 333 against USM, is 8 for 22 for 76 yds. How did this happen?

I was just curious as to why the CUSA went to 14 teams in this latest round of expansion? Was the conference trying to be proactive in case the AAC took two more CUSA teams? Or was there a different reason or more specific plan? And is the hope to eventually get back down to 12 teams?

This years team will be very different from the past few years as UTEP has outstanding guard play. Here is a link to our local papers write up. http://www.elpasotimes.com/story/sports/.../74546392/ Some things that excited me are that our new point guard had 13 assist and ZERO turnovers in addition to 31 points. Look Dominic Artis to be the newcomer of the year. UTEP also has shooters. Trey Touchet won the 3 point contest by going 28-30, he was a perfect 15-15 in the first round. Interior play is/and will be a big question mark but this is the first time UTEP has had great guard play in over 4 years.

Ten years at .500 is enough of a sample to know what you have. No one more than I has tried to keep a level perspective regarding Stockstill and dismissed calls for him to go, but the camels back has been broken. I have officially seen enough. One stat you won't here from the Middle Tennessee athletic dept is that Rick Stockstill's teams have now allowed 40 or more points to non-power schools 18 times. That's an average of nearly two per year. Or that Stockstil's record when facing a QB ranked in the top 50 in passing is 6-26. Middle Tennessee has never had a good defense under Stockstill sans Manny Diaz' last year. That, coincidentally, is the only season a Stockstill led team did not give up at least 40 points to at least one team. Since our board is down, I'll say this for our MT folks. I intend to contact the President on Monday and put forth a plan to remove Stockstill. We don't have a lot of money, but we have been putting money away for facility upgrades. That money should be pulled from those plans to put together a buyout package for Stockstill. We can no longer support the piss poor efforts we've witnessed year after year where the team just simply fails to show up in certain stretches of the year and we play olay with the opposing team's offensive players. We didn't show up for Western and we didn't show up today. Though this will hurt us in the arms race for facility upgrades we can't afford to continue doing what we are doing. Any energy and excitement has been sucked out of the program. The wind in the sails is gone and has been for some time. A change will infuse some energy back into the program which hopefully leads to increased revenue streams. Bottom line is Stockstill's tenure is officially a failure and we can no longer afford to keep him.

Marshall's starting RB Devon Johnson is injured and will be out for the game today. Let's hope for a good clean game. 17-0 1st quarter. Marshall has UNT on the ropes. Not impressed with the UNT D.

I really like this hire of Judy MacLeod. CUSA has a bunch of under-valued assets, and I think she will be just what we need. Just watch. She was a WBB player and I'm sure she knows the WBB royalty that resides in CUSA with La Tech and ODU. It's about time we have someone that doesn't just roll over and settle for mediocrity. She may be the best thing to happen to this conference since our MBB National Championship game run. I've always had the feeling that Bano was coasting on the job. I think this lady comes into this job with a chip on her shoulder. The best way to throw a wrench into the GOB network is to hire a woman. Val Ackerman seems to be doing ok in the Big East. Maybe her and Judy can secures us a series in roundball. Hillary Clinton is just about to become President. This seems to me to be a statement that CUSA is getting with the times. http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball...mmissioner
