  1. This could be huge for UNT. Here's the article if interested: http://www.star-telegram.com/news/politi...00127.html
  2. After day 1: UAB in 2nd (-5), North Texas in 9th (+8), and La. Tech in 11th (+13). Top 6 will go to Championship. There are many ranked teams. #1 Stanford at -14 (and in first), and # 25 North Carolina at +22 (13th).
  3. At the most, C-USA's new television contract could be worth $7 million. That would lead to revenue distribution of $538,400 per school. At the worst, C-USA's new pact could be in the neighborhood of $5.5 million. Divide that 13 ways and it calculates to $423,000 per school." Chuck Landon Article Link

  4. Uh oh. Bethune Cookman may be a tougher game than you thought. Continuity. At last. For the first since the beginning of this decade, Conference USA will enter a new season with the same eclectic mix of members it housed in the prior year. The same 13 programs that competed on grass last fall will be back on the field in September, with UAB set to rejoin the league in 2017 to make for two balanced divisions of seven. For a vulnerable conference forced to be reactionary during the height of realignment machinations, no news has been good news this offseason. 5 Non-Conference Games Conference USA Better Take Very, Very Seriously Conference USA teams will get ample opportunities to make splashes at the expense of Power 5 programs, as is always the case in September. However, on the way to cashing big checks and swinging for the fences, league members must avoid getting tripped up in the following winnable out-of-conference pairings. 1. Akron at Marshall, Sept. 17 2. Troy at Southern Miss, Sept. 17 3. Louisiana Tech at Massachusetts, Oct. 15 4. Army at UTEP, Sept. 17 5. Bethune-Cookman at North Texas, Sept. 10 http://campusinsiders.com/news/conferenc...05-13-2016

  6. Disney and other media companies have been hit by the trend of "cord-cutting" as younger viewers opt for streaming services over cable and satellite TV channels, and investors are particularly focussed on how ESPN, one of the strongest cable brands, weathers the storm. http://www.business-standard.com/article...064_1.html

  8. A declining cable television market, a growing gap between the major and midmajor conferences and some losses suffered in realignment are about to add up to a significant loss in revenue for Conference USA. The league will soon announce its new television deal, likely in a week at the C-USA meetings in Dustin, Fla., and a number of reports show revenues declining by about half, to around $7 million a year total for the 14 schools from the current amount of just over $14 million. That means the University of Texas at El Paso's cut of revenue will go from about $1 million a year to half that. "We anticipate around that," UTEP athletic director Bob Stull said. "It will be down. We don't know how much." The current deal was negotiated in 2011 and C-USA is the first midmajor conference (a group including the Sun Belt, Mountain West, American Athletic and MAC) to negotiate a new deal since the 2012 realignment. Conference USA won't comment until the deal is announced, but Commissioner Judy MacLeod did make some general statements in a speech to the Norfolk Sports Club last week. "Right now, the television market is horrible," she said in comments reported by the Virginian-Pilot. "ESPN eliminated 300 jobs and Fox Sports is doing away with a lot of its regional staffs. "The way people consume content is rapidly changing. We have young people who work in our office who don’t have cable or DirecTV. The pool of money that's there is going to the big guys. The Big Ten and the SEC are must-see TV." Read more: El Paso Times
  9. Time for Cusa teams to lift their skirt and get their spray tan on with Big 12 expansion talks resurfacing. http://www.wvgazettemail.com/sports/2016...mTfoA.dpuf
  10. As talk of Big 12 expansion ramps up again, Marshall head coach Doc Holliday says the constant focus on ways to make the most money is bad for college sports and will create more problems for too many programs. Holliday spent more than two decades at West Virginia, and while WVU’s jump to the Big 12 from the Big East was important, there have been drawbacks for fans with how far road games are. Teams’ travel costs have also gone up. “What’s happened a lot in the Power 5, you have to be careful with your fanbase,” he told SiriusXM College Sports Nation. “There are a lot of conferences out there that aren’t good fits for certain schools, because their fans can’t (travel). One thing Conference USA has done for Marshall is bring the conference back to us, within driving distance.” Some of the names coming up for possible Big 12 expansion include UConn, BYU, Cincinnati and others outside the footprint. But with the money that comes from being a Power 5 school, those schools want to get in. At this point in the game, it makes sense to want to be Power 5, given the growing divide, but the college sports map has completely shifted in the past decade, and Holliday says if schools only keep looking for the ways to make more money, it’s going to just create a bigger divide and cause more problems — even within the conferences. “I don’t know what the solution is,” he said. “Our problem right now is it’s all about greed and money. That’s where it is. If there’s more money to be made out there, I don’t think people are too concerned about how it affects each other, unfortunately. I’ve only had three jobs in the Power 5, and they were all tremendous schools. read more: http://coachingsearch.com/article?a=Doc-...-and-money

  12. http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Journ...ights.aspx "Where the NCAA tournament extended its deal with CBS and Turner with a healthy 40 percent increase last month, Conference USA is putting the finishing touches on a new deal with CBS and ESPN that will pay it much less than its previous deal."

  16. Who says that the CUSA doesn't have Talent? Most draft picks among G5 Schools. It can be done! Congrats to all the teams who have draft picks, a special few days for all those picked.
  17. First Tech 1st round defensive player. Great accomplishment for a school with one of the lowest budgets in Cusa. This will only help their recruiting. Great job Tech!
  18. Usually we know by this time of some of the bids that schools and cities have made to get the C-USA basketball tournament for the following year. Awfully well kept secrets if bids have been made. Will it be Birmingham for a 3rd straight year? Maybe back to El Paso? How about Norfolk? Biloxi, Shreveport... somewhere.

  22. Looks like Tech is copying what North Texas University did with their hire. As a Lady Techster from 1998-2002 she served as a two-year captain and starting point guard as a junior and senior, while leading the Lady Techsters to an impressive 119-16 mark under legendary coach Leon Barmore. She was instrumental in leading Louisiana Tech to four NCAA Championship appearances, including the Final Four in 1999 and two more Elite Eight appearances. As a coach Stoehr began her career at Arkansas-Little Rock before returning to Tech coaching under Chris Long. Following her time in Ruston, she went to Southern Mississippi then to Texas Tech before landing her first head coaching job at Northwestern State. During her time at Northwestern State, she turned a program around that won just two conference games before her arrival. In her first season (2012-13) they doubled their win total from the year before and qualified for the Southland Conference Tournament. The second year was even better as Northwestern State won the Southland Conference Tournament and their first 20-win season in 10 years. The next two seasons were more of the same as Northwestern State won the conference tournament both years. Louisiana Tech is expected to hold a press conference Tuesday to announce the hiring of Brooke Stoehr as head coach of the Lady Techsters. https://latech.n.rivals.com/news/sources...-techsters
  23. Fresno St. quarterback transfer Zack Greenlee. He was rated a top 150 player and 4 star prospect coming out of high school. He is a graduate transfer and will be eligible this fall. Looks like C-USA has become a haven for the grad transfer QB's! http://www.minerrush.com/2016/4/16/11446...k-greenlee
