http://www.si.com/college-football/2016/...ma-usc-fau There’s a sense that FAU is a bit starstruck by Kiffin, where he’s been and what he could do. Barbar calls Kiffin an “offensive genius” and adds: “The thing that struck me was that he walks in the room and you’re immediately attracted to him.” The school has nearly doubled its salary pool for assistant coaches from $1 million to $1.7 million. Along with location and chance to win, another primary attraction to Kiffin was how badly FAU officials wanted him there. “He clearly wanted the job,” Kelly says, “and we clearly wanted him for the job.”

Dec. 5, 2016 Dear Thundering Herd fans: Seven years ago this month, when I introduced Doc Holliday as our head football coach, I made a plea to all: leave ego at the door. I’m taking my own advice here. This is where I went to school. This is where I met my wife. This is where my family and I wanted to be when we were blessed with the opportunity to return here in 2009. Losing hurts. Negativity causes pain. Rumors, from the mild to the absurd, affect all of us deeply because they affect the perception of our city, our school and our athletic department. I am listening. First, let me assure you that there is an open-door policy for our student-athletes – current and former – when they have issues. We have met and talked to people – and will continue to do so – regarding any issue that has ever surfaced. We understand those who are upset by recent events. We did our best, but we acknowledge we can do better. We’re listening to them to make sure they – like all former athletes here – are appreciated. We value every former student-athlete whether they were part of an undefeated national championship team or my teams of the 1970s who didn’t experience that level of success. We’re all part of the program’s rich history, whether one was an All-American or a walk-on who didn’t see a snap. That is why it hurts to read about the disappointment from our former student-athletes and our passionate fan base. I left skin out on that field, too. It is the gift and the curse of being the athletic director at your alma mater – there is no one who wants this athletic department to prosper more than me, and it hurts like hell when we come up short. Fans, the disappointment is justified. The football season is not what any of us wanted, and that is especially true in the offices of the athletic director and the head football coach. Be assured, Coach Holliday will not rest until the football program is pointed in the right direction. When I leave the Shewey Building at night, it is comforting to see the light on in the head coach’s office. His passion and fire have not been subdued. If anything, they have been stoked. I appreciate his deliberate approach to the evaluation of the players and staff this offseason. He has my full support. We embrace our own here, which is why beloved Marshall basketball great Dan D’Antoni was brought back to rejuvenate our hoops program. We are loyal here. We compete the right way here. We do not cut corners and we do not cheat the system here. We value academics here. Marshall University had the most academic medal-winners in Conference USA during the 2015-16 calendar year. We have coaches who stay and see their programs flourish. In the past years, we have been in the mix for championships in football, men’s basketball, baseball, women’s basketball, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, volleyball and more. We have built tens of millions of dollars of new facilities. We are not finished. We. Ten times in that paragraph I used the word “we.” We have accomplished this – together. Our student-athletes compete for championships because we have a passionate fan base that supports them – either by being there to cheer in the stands or through financial means. It all matters. Every little bit helps. We succeed because of you. We need you. I am reminded of a shirt I saw one of our prominent former players wore to a game this season. The front read: Marshall vs. Everybody. This is a concept I want us to embrace. We need every last one of you to be ambassadors for our city, our school and our athletic department. We are in this together. This is my eighth year at Marshall. We have accomplished a lot together. But I know the scrutiny that comes with the position. All decisions are not going to be popular. Every decision is not one size fits all. We cannot possibly satisfy everyone. That is the hard part, but it is a burden I welcome because I know we all bleed Kelly green. There is nothing worse than indifference, and there’s no sign of indifference with this fan base. You’re passionate. You have heart. You’ve made yourself loud and clear over the past days, weeks and months – and that is refreshing and reassuring. From this point on, it is Marshall vs. Everybody. Stay together and we will overcome together. We are One Herd. Mike Hamrick

FAU is looking for a new head coach. The Owls relieved Charlie Partridge of his head coaching duties on Sunday, one day after Middle Tennessee pounded FAU 77-56. “I want to thank Charlie Partridge for putting his heart and soul into Florida Atlantic University for the past three years,” FAU athletic director Pat Chun said in a statement released by the school. “He led our program with integrity and character. Most importantly, he impacted the lives of our student-athletes and that will have a lasting effect.” For Partridge, the loss concluded his third 3-9 season in a row. The proved to be one too many 3-9 seasons for FAU to swallow. Hired in December of 2013, Partridge still had two years remaining on his original five-year contract. FAU owes Partridge a little more than $1 million for the remaining two years, but a buyout clause in the contract drops that total to about $200,000 should Partridge quickly find a job on another staff. During the three years under Partridge the FAU football program made tremendous advancements off the field in recruiting, academics and, to some extent, fundraising. On the field, the Owls continued to make the same mistakes week after week and statistically the Owls entered the season finale as one of the worst teams in the nation – and that comes while playing one of the easiest schedules in the nation. The high point on the field for the Partridge-led Owls may actually be a loss. Late in 2015 the Owls traveled to Gainesville and took an SEC Championship Game-bound Florida team into overtime before losing 20-14. Twice during Partridge’s three seasons the Owls finished among the bottom 20 in total defense and scoring defense. The Owls entered Saturday’s loss to MTSU ranked No. 93 in total offense and No. 103 in scoring offense. FAU lost four games this season by six points or less. Of the 27 losses under Partridge, 12 were by seven points or less. But FAU also suffered its most lopsided loss in program history earlier this season at Kansas St., falling 63-7; it’s worst home loss in program history – a 52-3 drubbing by Western Kentucky; and, after Saturday, one of the worst overall single-game defensive performances in NCAA history. Critics consistently commented about the Owls being out-coached, particularly after halftime. Coming into Saturday’s game FAU had only scored 96 points in the second halves of games, while allowing 184. http://fauowlaccess.com/floridaatlantic/...016/11/27/

Usually I'd be thinking of possible ways UTEP might pull off the upset. I know UNT is only a 3 point favorite right now but they would be doing UTEP fans a huge favor by pouring it on so that the UTEP admin has no choice but to fire the coach. Yesterday he stated during his media luncheon that he will fight to stay on. Nothing from the AD. Need to put that dog down!

a program we should aspire to be.

11. North Texas 2015-16 Record ¦ 7-11 / 12-20 Departures ¦ Eric Katenda, Carrington Ward (Grad Transfer), Chris Campbell, Todd Eaglin, DeAndre Harris (Transfer) Key Returners ¦ Jeremy Combs, J-Mychal Reese, Deckie Johnson, Rickey Brice Jr. New Arrivals ¦ A.J. Lawson, Ryan Woolridge, Keith Frazier (Transfer/SMU), Bryce Jackson (Transfer/New Orleans), Derall Green (Transfer/Incarnate Word), Shane Temara (CC) At one point in my drafts I had North Texas as high as sixth due to the talent they have returning. My issue with the Mean Green is Benford’s inability to get consist play from his teams. North Texas was an abysmal 1-12 on the road last season, while performing well at home beating Louisiana Tech, Charlotte, and FIU. Jeremy Combs could easily end up a first team All-CUSA player. But, there are a ton of moving pieces with this team and I’m not overly optimistic that Benford can make them work together. I’ll be thrilled to be proven wrong because the Mean Green faithful deserve a consistent winner. With the departure of Eric Katenda, their post anchor, it will be intriguing to see if Rickey Brice Jr. will continue to develop into a dominant center in this conference like many expect him to be. In just 395 minutes last season, Brice Jr. blocked 36 shots and was fourth in team rebounds. Towards the end of last seen, the big man worked himself into the starting lineup, and I expect him to establish himself there this year. The Mean Green will gain an instant impact player come December when former SMU guard Keith Frazier becomes eligible. The former McDonald’s All-American along side Combs, Reese, Brice Jr., and Johnson give Coach Benford one of the most formidable lineups in Conference USA if they can gel. North Texas might have as high an upside as any team in Conference USA. read more: https://thedailydragon.com/2016/10/03/cu...-previews/

http://nypost.com/2016/09/20/former-coll...up-school/ On Monday, a former UTEP basketball player was arrested after he threatened to blow up a school in Utah. Calling from the Eagle Valley Elementary School near Provo, Utah, Chris Craig, 35, told the police that he had packed his truck full of explosives and intended to arm them, according to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office. Wearing a ski mask, Craig then entered the school and told staffers, “Evacuate the kids and no one will get hurt,” before walking out the front door, according to the Provo Daily Herald. Moving quickly, staff and teachers locked down the school and evacuated the roughly 250 kids who were in class at the time.
