  2. Better produce Saban like results in a very short time or he won't last.
  3. There is no such thing as a "Bowl Ring" or at least there used not to be. It used to be that Conference Championship rings included the bowl in which they participated in. Example - Old Southwest Conference Championship with Cotton Bowl on one side, or the TCU Conference Championship incorparting the Rose Bowl on it. Most bowls used to give watches to all the players. Our guys voted on a watch over a ring. I advised my player to go for the watch. If you don't win the Conference/National Championship, you don't deserve a ring. It irks me to see High Schools that give out State "Finalist" Rings. That's what patches on letterman jackets are for.
  4. Answers to several questions previously posted. The Programs were being sold at the souveneir tables. The "Crazy Signs that team use on the sideline" questions. Some teams use them to signal in formations, pass protections, plays. Some teams use them as decoys for the afore mentioned purposes. Which does UNT use them for.... I'll never tell.
  5. The answer from an Aggie who has been part of the Mean Green Family the last four years (I don't wear maroon, only MG gear and I have not worn my Aggie Ring in 4 years) At A&M it is called "Traditions". It is Yell Practice; it the 12th Man; it is the Corps of Cadets; it is the Aggie Band; it is the yells and the Yell Leaders, it is NEVER sitting down; it is EVERY home game is a Homecoming; it is the ENTIRE stadium sawing tu's Horns off. And these traditions just didn't start 10 years ago (looking at "Enter Sandman" at VaTech). Some of these Traditions are 50, 60, 70+ years old. There are no "promotions" at Aggie football games. Other sports? Yea but not football. There are no "promotions"for Mid-night Yell Practice on Friday night regularly attended by 10,000 to 15,000. They don't need to post flyers around campus or around BCS that there are games on Saturdays. There is no "I didn't know there was a football game". You go to ATM to be an Aggie and Aggies support thier teams. Might not like the results and sometime the product on the field but you go to the games dispite of it. If you ever watch an Aggie football game on TV and you see all three decks on the visitor side.... ALL three decks are students. Those three decks equal all of Apogee AND they PAY for the tickets for seating which is not first, come first serve either. That is what the Event Promotions Department at A&M will tell you.
  6. The Cowboys were a hell of a lot better than they are now. In their last four years playing in the Cotton Bowl(66-69)they were 42 and 12. Starting in 1966, they made the playoffs 20 straight years. They played for the NFL Championships in 66 and 67. They were also playing with Hall of Fame members like Renfro, Staubach, Wright, Lilly, Hayes and Ditka. Make no mistake, the Cowboys of today are a tiny shsdow of what they used to be.
  7. There are several families in Cameron in which the dad has a State Championship ring ('81) and the son or sons have one too. ('12 and '13)
  8. All game times are tentative. Last night Cisco and Refugio was scheduled to start at 8:00pm and didn't start until 9:00pm. There is generally a very short time between the games. Last night it was 35 minutes. Food? Wear a coat and and pack heavy. No metal though.
  9. Interesting thoughts. Three things you have to take into consideration: 1.Unless the guy is a 5 Star stud, very few true freshman DLinemen see any playing time. 2. Prototypical size does not mean the ability to play the position. Again I offer this year's Outland Trophy winner was 6'1" 280 lbs. 3. If a big guy is brought into play DLine and he is switched to Oline, he will not be switched back. See No.2 I've always said it is easier to find "high quality" D1 QBs that it is to find "good" D1 DTs.
  10. The BIG difference in OL and DL, specifically DTs, is foot speed. The Outland Trophy winner this year, Aaron Donald from Pittsburg, is 6'1" 280 lbs. Watch his highlights. Strength is important but what is more important is to understand and know how to use leverage.
  11. Cameron Yoemen- Third trip in four years. Going for back to back SCs!
  12. Cotton Bowl - $140, Fiesta Bowl $95 -$335, Holiday Bowl $80-$120, If it were the Aggies, Bears, Cowboys or Techsters, they'd be fighting to pay $75 for a ticket. Friend of mine dropped $190 a piece for tickets to the Fiesta Bowl. That is on top of transportation and lodging. AND they are playing UCF. They will have no trouble purchasing thier alotment and their fan base is 10 times smaller than UNT's and they are not playing in thier backyard. GMG!
  13. 30 games between 2011-2013
  14. This post has been promoted to an article
  15. 11:00 am start on 1 January.... you want the visitor side. Cold in the shade.
  16. Never saw a recruit at a Bowl on the sideline or in the locker room. They will for sure get phone calls from coaches to remind them to watch though.
  17. If you are coming from Waco just take I-20 around to the I-45 and head north. Exit Grand Avenue. 6 blocks and you are at the Fairgrounds. Have done this for many years working at the State Fair and never had a problem. Should be no traffic early in the morning and easy to bug out afterwards. Park in the Fair Grounds and disregard the flag wavers outside.
  18. There are threads that parents just need to stay away from and I am pretty sure this is one of those.
  19. Michigan.
  20. Because most upperclassmen know what it feels like to play in an empty stadium and have idea of the travel cost related to getting thier families there.
  21. So all the high school kids who now get to play in Jerry World on a regular basis have no desire to play there in their college careers? Having never played in a bowl game before, one cannot be picky. DT 90 would prefer to play in the Cotton Bowl on New Years Day. You cannot be more traditional than that.
