MGB: UNT summer questions series Part III: Can UNT rebuild its DL?
DT 90 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
That is why there are so many tight ends.. they cannot play DT. I would not count on immediate help from Freshmen Dlinemen. I'd give them a year. -
Anyone recall the deathly quite Sanford Stadium and the soaking wet North Texas continent there? They heard us.

Won't see the field. My source has very deep concerns about the D-line. Nothing to do with size or speed, just pure lack of experience. This results in a lot of improper technique and making the wrong decisions. Doesn't sound like much but there is a reason #35 seemed to be everywhere making all the tackles. Even with a more aggressive technique brought in by the new coach. If you don't do what your suppose to do, bad things happen. In regards to eating and adding weight.... I refer to my previous post on this subject.

To close of a call for what? He is being tackled. Nothing illegal about it. If you want to see an illegal hit here you go. http://www.dentonrc.com/sports/colleges/north-texas-headlines/20120915-football-boutwells-return-could-bolster-unt.ece or this: http://www.dallasnews.com/incoming/20130921-north-texas-georgia-football_33309827_827001.jpg.ece/BINARY/original/North+Texas+Georgia+Football_33309827_827001.JPG One was called and one was not. The rule has also been "clarified" this year. Doesn't matter if the hit is initiated befow the neck if you go helmet to helmet on an unprotected player you are get get the flag. It is also 15 yards from the spot of the foul, not the previous spot as it was last year.

Which true freshmen do you see making an impact this season?
DT 90 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Big Linemen on high school film always look like beast because they going against kids 40 or 50 pounds lighter than them, AND D1 Olinemen tend to be MUCH nastier. I give him a year. -
Coaches won't change a zebra's stripes unless the zebra wants them changed.

Puts a whammy on some of the "one and done" in basketball.

UPDATE: Unfortunately, Derek was not picked up by the Broncos this past weekend.

John Randall and Darrell Green.

More like 270 lbs. You cannot use him as an example. He is a freak. Ryan said he was doing swim moves on Georgia OT's that were 6'6" and 6'7" when he was watching film on Georgia. Also for reference, Ryan played DT in 2011 at 245 to 250 lbs.
-
It is not a given that a player will gain weight over the summer. However,it is reasonable to expect a 5 to 10 pound increase. Anything over that is sometimes detrimental to the athlete's performance and makes him susceptible to injury. Both Ryan and Abbe are examples of that. Both played at a lighter weight ( Ryan, 255-260 down from 275, Richard at 300- 305 down from 335 ) in '13 than they did in '12 and both had much better production and neither were dinged with injuries. A gain of of 30 to 40 pounds is totally unrealistic. If they do that, they have eaten themselves out of a job. and again I have to breakout a fact based opinion: UNT' 13 Starting lineup averaged 276 lbs UNT' 10 Average was 300 lbs UNT'13 gave up 120 yard rushing per game and 10 rushing TDs UNT'10 gave up 185 yards rushing per game and 23 rushing TDs. Also the '13 Outland Trophy winner was a 280lbs DT.

"Derek Thompson@DerekThompson_710m Just to clear things up, I've been invited to the Denver Broncos mini camp. Thankful for the opportunity and can't wait to compete! QBs work"

No I don't know who #74 was. He is a walk on and Ryan didn't know his name either. He would have known it was Pullen. As far as if and when Pullen shows up, I have no idea. He told me he was going to be at UNT for the Spring semester and apparently that didn't pan out. He was on scholarship at TAMC so yes he will have to sit.
-
No it wasn't.

There were two, Derek and Ryan. They both graduate next Friday; Ryan being Cum Laude in both Undergrad and Graduate School.

NCAA Requires Strength & Conditioning Coaches to be Certified
DT 90 replied to UNTFan23's topic in Mean Green Football
From my source, one cannot just spend an afternoon studying and then take the test for the certification that is being required. It is for liability/professional purposes. -

Man, I am so totally sorry about that. I do sometimes forget myself. I will work harder on not being that way. -

Spring 2-Deep doesn't mean anything? : 2013 There was exactly 1 position in which the Week 1 Starter was different from the Spring 2 Deep Starter (DE- Chad Polk was Spring and Daryl Mason was actual starter) Three positions on offense had different No.2s (2 WRs and RT) Beside the starting DE - three defensive positions had different No. 2s. ( DE ,MLB and FS)
