  1. I found this on the internet today. I don't know if it had been previously posted, but it appears that we will be hosting Nicholls State on Sept 20th. http://www.houmatoday.com/article/20131218/HURBLOG/131219610?p=3&tc=pg#gsc.tab=0 Aug. 30 @ Texas Sept. 6 SMU Sept. 13 Sept. 20 Nicholls St Sept. 27 Oct. 4 @ Indiana looks like we'll probably have a conference game on either the 13th or 27th of September, with the other date being an OPEN week. Really hoping there aren't byes on both sides of Nicholls State (which I don't imagine there will be)
  2. crazy that this team beat A&M, who moved to 2-0 in the SEC today
  3. until the crowds get bigger again, we should start playing our games in the old gym. Would create a better environment
  4. A couple of interesting notes: - Due to his buyout, WKU will effectively make money off of Petrino's one year. His salary of $850,000 is less than the $1.2 million buyout coming their way. - WKU had a clause in his contract where he must make every effort to schedule a home-and-home to take place within 12 years of his leaving. So basically, WKU will get a home game vs. an ACC opponent due to a clever contract. WKU has been able to play home basketball games vs. Georgia and South Carolina in the past due to these types of clauses. http://www.courier-journal.com/article/20140108/SPORTS02/301080115/Old-contract-stipulates-Bobby-Petrino-must-use-best-efforts-get-WKU-two-games-Louisville?nclick_check=1
  5. 1) it would still be considered a bye...unless you're suggesting that we will have a losing record in 2014 and, thus, our season will be done following the week 13 game? 2) Week 14 is traditionally "rivalry week" in college football, and I've heard/read chatter that we will be returning to UTSA on that weekend since Tulsa left us for the browner pastures
  6. there are 15 weeks on the NCAA calendar (16 if you count Army/Navy weekend). Week 15 is conference championship weekend, which leaves 14 weeks before that. Since we are already scheduled to visit Austin on the first weekend, two byes is a mathematical certainty. The only way we can avoid this and have only 1 bye is if we schedule a game AT Hawaii plus the additional compensatory 13th game. Since Hawaii only has 4 non-conference games right now, I guess it is possible, however improbable
  7. agreed. Norfolk would be a nice destination with a lot of other activities and side trips that can easily be built in to the itinerary for Mean Green fans traveling to watch our boys play. If we were to go to ODU, I would just switch Week 8 to @ Old Dominion and possibly Week 13 to home vs UAB on the above schedule. Looking forward to seeing how it all plays out. From brief research, it appears that CUSA is the only conference that hasn't at least partially released the 2014 schedule. why is that, I wonder?
  8. thanks for the response, Huff. Like you, I don't see any changes coming to the three scheduled games, HOWEVER, there is still one non-conference game not officially accounted for since we should have 4. I was hoping someone had some insider info on opponent #4. There had been previous chatter on here that Nicholls State would be playing in Apogee. This definitely fits as Nicholls likes to play multiple FBS (formerly Division 1-A) schools. In 2013, they lost to Oregon and Louisiana-Lafayette and beat Western Michigan for a total of three FBS "paycheck games". I also like the four non-conference games to open the year before taking an open date and then plunging into CUSA, but I don't think that will happen in 2014 since we travel to Indiana on October 4th. I'm looking forward to finding out non-conference game #4 and the official CUSA schedule. Right now I'm thinking it looks something like this: Week 1: @ Texas Week 2: SMU Week 3: NICHOLLS STATE Week 4: OPEN Week 5: Week 6: @ Indiana Week 7: Week 8: Week 9: Week 10: Week 11: Week 12: Week 13: Week 14: Week 15: Conference USA Championship Game *bold indicates already announced I started to insert games each week, but it just seemed like it was going to be a lot of guess work until we know officially what CUSA is going to do. Do we simply flip home and away? Because that could cause some issues, as we'll see in just a moment. In addition, does the East have 7 teams or does the West have 7 teams. I've read in some places where we'll have 7 in the West (North Texas, Rice, UTEP, UTSA, La Tech, Southern Miss, UAB), and I've also read where we'll only have 6 (subtract UAB) and the East has 7 (Marshall, FAU, FIU, MUTS, WKU, Old Dominion, UAB). I tend to think that CUSA will go with a 6 team West and a 7 team East, but I could easily be wrong. With a 6 team West, we play 5 division foes and 3 cross-division opponents, but with a 7 team West, we play 6 and 2. If we say we play UAB either way, for simplicity's sake then it could be something like this (if we simply flip home and away from 2013): home: Southern Miss La Tech UAB another East opponent (ODU, perhaps) away: Rice UTSA UTEP MUTS looking at it like this, I get the feeling that we WILL NOT be returning every trip in 2014. I think we will get one of our fellow Texas schools at Apogee again in 2014. I think I read somewhere where UTSA will be hosting us Thanksgiving weekend. I know that some on the board are hoping for a Houston or El Paso trip, but I think that one of these two will be coming back to Denton. For now, we'll say Rice (although you could easily insert UTEP, or maybe even UTSA, if you so desire). I've now used a Plumm-level of words to basically say absolutely nothing, but at least I've kind of typed out some thoughts, and hopefully we can use this to set a prototype schedule and then see how close we actually get when it's announced, hopefully within the next month. and now my first guess: W1: @ Texas W2: SMU W3: Nicholls State W4: @ MUTS W5: OPEN W6: @ Indiana W7: Southern Miss W8: @ UAB W9: La Tech W10: @ UTEP W11: OPEN W12: Rice W13: Old Dominion W14: @ UTSA W15: CUSA Championship
  9. I believe the 2013 conference schedule was released in mid to late January... does anyone know when the 2014 schedule will be released? Also, when does RV plan on announcing our last non-conference? possibly Nicholls State
  10. shameless plug, but can I get some love for that 9 win prediction over 49 weeks ago?!?! It's almost time to start a ridiculously early 2014 prediction thread...
  11. serious question: meangreener, did you or any of your friends take home any hats or other paraphanelia?
  12. I agree with the sentiment, but it probably won't be the Liberty Bowl that Mean Green Nation will be heading to next season... per the Liberty Bowl website: "The AutoZone Liberty Bowl and Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby announced today a new six-year agreement between the AutoZone Liberty Bowl and the Big 12 Conference. The new agreement will include the 2014 through 2019 college football seasons. The Big 12 is a new addition to the Bowl’s line-up. The opponent for the Big 12 in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl will be the Southeastern Conference. Thus, the AutoZone Liberty Bowl will be featuring two of the top conferences in college football." http://www.libertybowl.org/component/content/article/52
  13. I don't imagine the prices will be that much higher next year. The remaining non-season tickets will probably be priced between $15-30 per game like this year
  14. Nuff said!! Great year, great finish....now when does 2014 kickoff?
  15. Got5, did you pay $5, per your post on Christmas? or the FedEx fee, per your post earlier today? as discussed on another thread, the main ticket problem appears to be a $5 vs $10 (FedEx) fee. If you're in the latter group, you are the first to publicly post that you failed to receive tickets via FedEx after paying the $10 FedEx ticket fee... which makes the ticket fiasco even more interesting. From the few statements I've seen from the AD and other posts on this board, it seemed that folks who paid $5 seemed to be the ones who didn't receive tickets. Most of these talked to Coleman and Eddie on the phone. Who did you purchase from? TIA for the valuable input. Either way, it doesn't ultimately matter. The ball was dropped BIG time during this whole process by our entire athletic department
  16. I had to start cheering for Navy, for sure. MUTS doing their best 90's Miami impression
  17. http://lmgtfy.com/ ^ sorry. couldn't resist. here ya go: http://www.afca.com/article/article.php?id=2435 http://www.sportswriters.net/fwaa/news/2013/allamerica131218.html http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/eye-on-college-football/24378716/winston-donald-lead-cbssportscom-2013-all-america-team http://espn.go.com/blog/ncfnation/post/_/id/91214/att-espn-all-america-team-2 http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/college-football/news/20131217/college-football-all-america-team/ http://www.usatoday.com/picture-gallery/sports/ncaaf/2013/12/10/usa-today-sports-all-america-college-football-first-team/3979091/ http://collegefootball.ap.org/article/ap-all-america-team-list http://www.sportingnews.com/ncaa-football/story/2013-12-12/sporting-news-all-american-football-team/
  18. A&M is in the SEC
  19. ticket sales outsourcing. they make calls and were apparently taking bowl calls. Eddie, Coleman.. basically, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, if you talk to a girl then it's a student worker and if you talk to a guy then it's Aspire
  20. from what I've gathered and am hearing: - folks who ordered online and selected FedEx received their tickets via FedEx - folks who ordered online and selected WillCall have either picked up their tickets or will pick them up at Will Call - folks who walked into the ticket office and purchased tickets and paid $10 FedEx charge received their tickets via FedEx - folks who called the ticket office and paid the $10 FedEx charge received their tickets via FedEx - folks who talked to their "service representatives" from Aspire paid $5 (sometimes) and did not receive their tickets unless I missed something, it seems like part of this error had to do with terrible communication skills between the athletic department, the ticket office, and the outsourcing sales staff. Did anybody else arrive to a similar conclusion or notice that same pattern? or am I just crazy
  21. I agree. the athletic department and ticket office dropped the ball here. I ordered tickets at the end of November, was told the deadline was Wednesday, December 18, and tickets would be FedExed no later than Friday. these Christmas gifts should be here. no valid excuses
  22. Good to know. Thanks 1980
  23. Has anyone already received their tickets, yet? I was told they'd be sent Wednesday, which means they probably won't get to me til Monday, but some of yall tend to get faster delivery (based on past season tickets threads).
  24. Texas-USC was a Rose Bowl game as you mentioned, and it is listed as the best Rose Bowl ever His best BCS Nat'l Champ game refers to games known as the national championship (which began in 2007). In 2005, there was no national championship game; the Rose Bowl served as a national championship game but was still known as the Rose Bowl, not "BCS champ game."
  25. agreed "Motivation Meter: Presumably plenty high. A de facto home game for the Mean Green from De Soto. And a bowl game, period, for either team is exciting. It's been nine years for North Texas and 13 for UNLV." just, wow. he is the same guy who rated all of the 3rd year coaches in FBS a month or so ago and forgot one...Coach Mac
