Pitiful night shooting! Tony needs to work on playing with his back to the basket. No more excuses of him being out of position. Lebron can play every position on the court. he needs to be able to catch the ball 6 feet from the basket dribble and put it up. He has the height to get the position even with the fade away. This team really needs to work on shooting. We also got killed on the glass! I would love to see Colman, Niko, Mitchell, Jordan, and Jones on the floor for an extended time. Throw in Alzee for a big man and push the ball! I find it so hard because every has potential on this team. We need to figure something out before Thursday that is all I can say.

Really looking forward to the rest of the season. CJ has slowly stepped up his game all year. As long as he is the leader and the coach on the floor we will be victorious.

I am sorry. Perhaps from now on you pipe down after a UNT lose? And where is all of this coming from? Making assumptions I know very little bit about basketball? You do not know who I am.. nor do you know what I do for a living. So perhaps assumptions should end there.

What an embarrassing night for the belt all around! I like unts chances even more now. I would have thought this would have been a 4-0 night form the belt.

Altered lineup won't shake SMU's commitment to Big East

Nothing wrong with being positive. Forgive me for not being negative. I really like this team. -
The Players just want the W. It is nice to have a great crowd but they will play hard for 50 people if they have too. The next game time is weird but I am trying to rep the game hard around the workplace! "Thanks man we will get the win very weird time but long as we got dedicated moms there we good and ok If I throw one down maybe I will point at u haha"

You have to have options in basketball. Otherwise you would get shut down all day. You run a basic offense and know you options from there. If this was jot the case why roll offs off the pick and roll? You would just go the hoop for the lay up ever time, because you do not need another option. Bad example because the pick and roll is not anmoffense nor a play but it still works for the example.

So you go for the flashy play and not a win?

I am sure there are better coaches, but I will still stand by Benford. It is the coaches job to be prepared and give the players options. It is the players choice once on the court to make the decision for themselves. He has been a D1 assistant coach for some years. If you do not believe that he gives his team options and plays to capitalize on their advantages I do not know what to say. The players are just choosing a different option. The PG is the coach on the floor and it really all runs through him. When CJ matures a bit more and takes on that leadership and makes wise choices this team will be very very good.

Please explain to me why Benford is bad? There was a guy a few rows up from me who seemed to complain about Benford the whole game. Like he did not even watch the game. What is it with people wanting to jump on the coach so much that they do not even watch the game? He complained about every little thing. "Yea Benford keep yelling and clapping you sure are coaching".... watch the game people! We should have won by more then 20 but I will take the win for sure.

I ate lunch in that cafeteria as a child! -
It was a good game at the end. When Tony went down I thought we were done... It was funny seeing his mom chew out the gentlemen in the suit who tried to stop her from seeing her son.

What? who said anything about a zone? And who says that you can use it to guard against the 3? Anyway. Perhaps I am just being patient. Until I see a game where the players look completely clueless and lost on Benfords system I will have faith. -I think it's jus our mindset we have 2 be more focus and buy in on wat he is teaching us because it works plus we can't give up second chance shots With this^ I think the blame is being placed on both players and coaches as it should be. Give them time. People at work who are not die hard fans even say give him a year when I bring up the idea of blaming Benford. If we flop by the end of the year then yes I will change my stance. Lets just change the topic to something else like how we are going to beat St. Louis! I did make the call after at all. I also believe this team is under achieving. Worse things could happen. We could have two players flunk mid term and then choke come conference tourney time. -

You are missing the point. How do you know the "coaching" is not ever present? This is what I cannot understand. Everyone on this site must not work and literally devote their time to stalking this coach and this team. I have a life and a job. When will all of these people who go to practice and have conversations with the staff and players post more information on here? Until then this is all speculation. Some believe it is the players while others believe it is the coach. This kind of argument occurs in a lot schools around the nation when alum get upset. Time always tells which side is correct. I am going to give it more time. -

Because at least two of the players have said this. Now maybe they lied and are making excuses but I give them the benefit of the doubt. -

I do not take anything personal that is written online. I just enjoy the sport and the team. I loved going to games when I was younger and still do. I am actually a pretty die hard fan, but I guess I am a glass half full person. I sold this team hard over the summer and still am. I have tried and convinced a lot of people to at least come out and watch a game. I talk up this team all day everyday. I enjoyed the lala game though I was disappointed. I did want to yell out a couple times and boththe players and the coach but I was just a tad to far from the court... Perhaps I will see you there Saturday who knows. Would it help if I predict a win Wednesday against st louis? This is my one call for the year. I think the team is tired of getting walked over. The players know Benfords system works they just need to fully buy into it. Their mindset is off right now. Wednesday perhaps it will be right -

Do you really believe it is that simple? Everything is the coaches fault? It seems extremely single minded to me. Did you always do you chores? Did you always make your bed? Is it your parents fault you did not?did you not respect your parents? Maybe you did all of this I have no clue. -

A year ago people threw a fit when Jordan and Chris failed classes. They were men then. Now all of the sudden we get a new coach and they not? I liked Johnny and I like Benford. It is/was neither mans job to baby these players. The players are not hustling plain and simple. Blame the coaches blame the players. Let's just stop whining and enjoy unt basketball! We are turning into the players pouting because we are not happy. Bigger things occur in the world. Have a little faith people. We are a long way from the end. -

I never said I was. By educated I meant played college ball or coached high school ball and above. I'm sorry but 18 year old men go to war and die for this country. You are ging to tell me that these 20 year old men are any different? A man is a man and anyone 18 and up is a man. I am not saying anyone on these boards as "stupid" or "knows nothing". Everything is an opinion. That is exactly what I have, an opinion equal to anyone else's. I am not "basketball stupid" but I am also no coach K. I just enjoying watching and playing the game (years ago). Understand that coaches do get blamed and fired for having losing seasons. Sometimes it is the coach and sometimes it is the players. I just cannot see how the players look blameless in any of this. -

I am with KRAM, Harry, The players, and a lot of other people. I have benfords back. The educated people I have talked to have had his back and recognize that the players are also at fault. Pardon my French, but these are grown ass men who have played the game for years. If they cannot hit a free throw or a layup it is never on the coach. This is not middle school or pe wee. these men have played ball for years. They are just failing to live up to the hype. It is very difficult form me to trust a lot of peoples judgement when I do not know their knowledge on basketball. From what I have seen things have not goneour way and the players are not holding up their end of the deal. If Benford is screaming shooter and pointing to a man in the corner and no one covers him that is Benfords fault? I guess people are just waiting for Benford to jump upmof the bench and block it from behind.- 106 replies

Well I will try to bow out of this convo for now. I will give Benford the benefit of the doubt for now until I see otherwise. From what I have observed he is doing his job. Maybe the players do not respect him, but from what I have seen that is not the case.

JJ did not really have an "offense" we ran the same dang 4-1 motion. We swung the ball around the top of the perimeter. The big difference is we hit shots and players were not selfish. Benford ran the same play (if you want to call it a play but it is really a set for an offense) that Johnny did last night. 2 players in the corner for 3 and two low posts. Both posts come up to the top and set a double screen. You have options from there. Benfords job is to tell them the options. Which it was clear they knew because everyone went to their spots. The difference was they failed to capitalize on it. I think one big misconception on the offensive end is the difference between and offense and "play" and offense is run over and over and over like a loop until something opens up or the players opt out on their own. Plays are utilized are time outs or with seconds left. All offenses within about 6 to 10 seconds depending and reset. At this point every play is back where they started and they do it again. The players have the ability to opt out of it with options that the coach should give them. I have not seen a single practice so I cannot say if Benford has done this or not, but any middle school coach can even do this.

Meangreenmick- You think he designed that play at the end of the game to go off with 25 seconds left to go? A three with 25 seconds to go when we are only down by 2? Then why was he chewing Jordan out for shooting the ball and screaming no when he shot it!? Granted it was a wide open look Benford wanted the last shot and it was clear by his actions and mannerisms. Tony does need more touches but he does attract a lot of bodies. Which does actually clog the lane :/ Again I am not taking all of the name off the coaching staff and I do not know what happens in practice, but a lot of this is on the players and the poor last second decisions they make. I will give him a year to make a decision on him. I really thought this was our turn around game, especially after the ladies win. I was wrong and it is disappointing.
