This is the only sticking point with me. He does sub a lot. I am not sure if it is to make sure everyone gets to play. But this is college not middle school! He subbing has slowed though. The starters minus got their normal minutes. Though this strategy does boggle my mind.

Tony will still be a lotto pick this year. NBA drafts on potential and he has plenty. Tony was out of the paint a decent amount tonight. He and Franklin were setting high picks for CJ a lot. CJ never gave him the ball and obvisouly in the post he was denied. We have to learn to win without Tony because everyone is gunning for him. He is our best player but he may need his role adjusted. Or yes the game plan could be tweaked more. But with himout of the paint where do we get offensive rebounds from and second chance points?
-
Perhaps I am naive for giving him the benefit of the doubt, but as of now I see more fault in the players then the coach.
-
I am not sure if anyone can say he turns to the players for answers or has them draw up the plays. The assistant was probably Lundy and he is a great offensive coach from what I have read/seen. I understand we should be a lot better then this. Trust me. I want to be better then this. But like KRAM I believe the players need to be held accountable at least as much as Benford.

I want him to help this team win. But right now he is pouting and getting frustrated. I would like to see Tony get a touch in the paint and hold the ball for a second and make a smart decision. You see this in the NBA with Kevin G. Or Dirk N. They catch the ball in/near the paint with their back to the basket. If they get doubled they pass it out. If not they make a one on one move. I have yet to see this from anyone but Roger on all team. We rush our decisions. You have 35 seconds and we we cannot even make an intelligent move. The last 25 seconds of the game sums this up. Jordan had a good look but Rogers put back was rushed. They needed to kick it out and play for the last shot to go to OT.
-
KRAM you are 100% correct! I am waiting for someone who went to the game tonight to point out where Benford was wrong. I do not know what happens in practice but on the court he seems to know what to do.
-
Seriously? We result to name calling. Could you do a better job? My point is this. Give the man a year! How did we get our expectations for this year? Yahoo news.... Ball is life videos.... Si articles.... We had a decent season last year, not great. Granted we had a ton of returning starters we lost our coach and all the players had to mesh. Name one thing he did that was wrong tonight? This is not targeted at you but just in general for anyone who went to the game.
-
The player who had 5 fouls and 5 turnovers and the other player who up until tonight has made poor decisions with the ball. If poor talent and ability won games we would be undefeated. It does not. You have to play as a team. The 5 guys listed bustle on both end of the floor and play smart. I love CJ, Alzee, jw, Tony, and Keith. BUT as a core these guys cannot share responsibility!
-
I agree with the above^^^ Tony and Keith walked up the court and got dunked on without even watching their man or the ball. Evans was livid and both players just ignored him and acted like they knew better. I was very excited to have Colman but right now his court awareness is lacking. He cannot watch the ball move and his man at the same time.

He will speak Monday. JJ did not always come out and talk. After the UTA game he was no where in sight. This is true for others as well throughout his career. I am sure Benford was all over his players including Tony for lack of effort and intensity. I thought that dunk would have brought Tony back, but instead he just turned the ball over. 5 fouls and 5 turnovers is not a good night.

I will research it but a few years ago the cowboys ran through a few kickers and had the same coach. I believe it was when Billy C. Was kicking. I will check it though, have a link? I would still contend the number is low and it heavily weighed towards the kickers release. Beyond this though the point is there are so many facets of the game that our out of the coaches hands. The players have to make wise decisions, you can contend all day that Benford should have "coached" them better to avoid these mistakes, but they re human error. He can be held accountable on some issues including constant substations, but as an x's and 0's coach he seems to be knowledgable.

"character"... What is it with people on this board and spelling? Correcting others grammatical erros some how justifies their lack of common sense when it comes to athletics (at times). This is not a post attacking you, but just a blanket statement. Let's stick to the facts as if we were having a discussion and not grading a dissertation.

At what point does a missed field goal factor into bad coaching? You fire the kicker never the special teams coach. They fire the closer never the bullpen coach.
-
Lala also nit the three. With a hand in the face. I really believe these people are looking for any excuse in the book to defend a team they fell in love with based on ball is life videos and pure speculation of talent. Know we do have a lot of talent, their is not denying this. But they have yet to play as a team on the floor. Benford has ton everything he can from what I have seen at the games. Chris and Tony ran the pick and roll. Did you not watch? They ran the two high where Franklin and Tony set a double pick for CJ. Roger would go under and Tony over. Every time unless Tony stepped out he was mugged. This did leave holmen or jw open but they were always on the opposite side of CJ. It was still effective when it was done properly though. It beat the zone because it did draw the post players up and out from the paint. It opened up the floor. Benford was smart for doing this. It the p,ayers just missed shots and made poor choices. Not the choices Benford wanted.
-
That is how it is spelled here and how it was spelled on his old high school web cite for white house. Maybe it was miss spelled there but I just go by what I have seen and read in other places. I prefer to watch the game and the players then the names on their jerseys. Either way those 5 players hustle all the time!
-
This I can agree with but the leaders are in. The only player/players I see frustrated are Mitchell and jones. But honestly they need to learn to work as a team. I do believe that this season will help Tony. He will still be a lotto pick and he will be thankful he had this season. He is going to get double and triple teamed. He will get frustrated and upset, but it will only get worse in the NBA. Like a lot of rookies he will get pushed around. This season will build some toughness and charter for Tony as frustrating as it is.

The best line up we have is pj, Alzee, Jordan, Franklin, and Holmen
-
He yells shooter and CJ cover and CJ just sits at the top. Wide open three knocked down. These players have no discipline. Coach evans got fired up a lot tonight and in players faces for lack of common of sense. The players are the issue. The only issue I see with Benford is he subs a lot more but the minutes were about the same under jones. Please explain what Benford did wrong tonight? How did he "mess it up"?

Fire Tony Mitchell? Well at times we do seem better with out him. But you are right this team is joke. The team cannot even perform a simple offense. Tony mitchel and Colman are the biggest babies I have ever seen. Tony pouts and does not hustle and Colman does not even listen to coach Evans. He has horrible court vison!!!! He got dunked over because he was not even watching the ball or his man. These players are not playing as a team. It was clear if you saw the game Benford knows what he is doing. Anyone who says otherwise has no clue at all...

Do you really think Mitchels poor performance is on Benford? Last I heard he was still ecstatic to have him and Evans on board. Now would I have liked Fran? Sure. But we got who we got and I will support him. It is very hard justify firing someone who started off better then his Predecessor. Yes he inherited and amazing team but we did have some terrible loses last year and it ended on a sour note. Lets see where we stand come conference time.
-
Hey do not bring me into this. I am done with this crappy team and this board. Maybe next year. Who said we were going to be good this year. Not me.
-
Please explain why? I understand they are very different. NBA is a one on one game and college is a true team effort. But there are some comparisons. Are they different? Yes very. But it is the same basic concept. And do not be rude to me. Ihave done nothing to you and am a fan just like everyone else. The "rudeness" is not appreciated.

I am perplexed at this argument we do run an offense. Do you understand how offense works? There are just a few base sets and that is it. You have motion, flex, and shuffle. Those are the three basic offenses. Unt runs two of the three. Outside of these you change it up sometimes go 2 low or 3 low and then design 4 or 5 go to plays. That is it. Most of this is on the players and the pg.he is the coach on the floor. He needs to be making the calls and getting his teammates involved. It is his job to let the know where to go. I have not seen this as much as I would like though.
-
It is illegal to run a true zone. That is all I was saying. Happened a few nigghts ago against the mavs. Murphy was splitting his man and the "elbow" and they gave em the tech shot. It is not a zone like you will see in college. But it's not worth arguing. People on here seem to be bitter and know it all. I will enjoy watching unt this season and still have faith. We are a good team and I will give both coaches into next year. Even mitchel does leave I will still cheer the team on. They could lose every game next year and I will still show up. It's entertainment and not the end of the world. Though perhaps the mayans did predict this. The destruction of unt sports in December 2012. Who knows.... Just enjoy the ride. I'm more concerned about conference USA becoming the sunbelt version two..
