Best BBQ in each Texas college football town
Shark84 replied to Big Z's topic in Mean Green Football
I stand by Metzler's in Denton. Great food, reasonably priced and long time supporters of UNT. -
When are we going to hear some good news?

Heard that Edwards, Scott and Buggs were all visiting Memphis. Doubt that all three end up there but how weird would that be? -
Does anyone know if a player announces he is transferring to another school, is that binding or can they back out whenever they want. Is there such a thing as a binding commitment anymore? You would think we have to be getting some guys in here on visits but maybe they just aren't making it public to try to hold on to some. Usually word leaks out,

Good to know the American is leading the country in transfers.

The Spring portal closes on May 1st. Do we lose anyone else? Walker? Stone? Cotton? Sissoko is a grad transfer so he can leave anytime he wants.
-
The problem is how fast those guys are signed and how much time they can spend working out together during June-August. This would be a good summer to be able to play in an overseas tournament to help team bonding.

Former UNT signee Layne Taylor commits to central Arkansas

Good for him. I'm glad he found somewhere close to home that he can play right away.- 37 replies

Do you expect to hear something from Hodge? -
If Ross has to do a complete rebuild next year, what is a realistic expectation? Before the mass exodus, I felt like we were in a position to be a top 4 team in the AAC. Now I don't think that is a fair assumption. To many unknowns.
-
Just saw that the HS point guard from Arkansas, Taylor, has backed out of his commitment to us. I'm afraid to look at any UNT basketball story now. When will we have something positive to talk about? This is depressing!!!

Other than Stone Earle in football, how many other guys have entered the portal and come back to their school? I haven't heard of many. These guys have a lot of voices in their ears. It's kind of like dumping your girlfriend because you think you can do better than you don't have the guts to swallow your pride and ask her to take you back.
-
For a Coach and a system that asks guys to be unselfish, love each other and put team and others before self. It's going to be hard to get guys to buy into that for one year. He may have to change the philosophy. I don't think you will have guys knocking down the doors to come play defense. I trust Hodge will do whatever it takes to put a winning product on the floor, but I do think our system/style will be different.

With all of the guards leaving, Moore may want to come back.
-
It would be nice for Vito to interview Hodge.

I'd give John Williams a call about sponsorship.

Where is the Record Chronicle when we need them?
-
I don't blame the players. I blame the system that has destroyed the era of "student athletes". Why should they have to keep a certain grade point average or pass a specific number of hours each year? We are starting to see more HS transfers allowed. How long until they can sign deals with Nike and Adidas?
-
This isn't the professional world...well, I guess your right. With NIL it is now. Better start getting these young people agents to help them make smart decisions.
-
We aren't the only school losing 5-6 players. This is what happens when you allow unlimited transfers and no NIL regulations. I really don't care if anyone from last season stays. It will be new guys every year.

BREAKING: John Buggs III enters the portal
Shark84 replied to Jdawg48's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I would have liked for him to stay but he was a one-dimensional player and a streaky one at that. He can be replaced.- 39 replies

I'd almost rather bring in kids from lower D1, D2 and JC schools that are excited to be at North Texas. Remember the passion that Javion, Tyler and Kia played with when they got here. You could tell they loved being at UNT. I saw the same thing from Buggs this year. I know that can change from year to year and I'm not saying don't try for the best players but get people that WANT to be here.

From Final 4 to complete destruction of the entire program in two years. Just sad.
-
Does anyone know how the NIL groups actually work? Are they private or public record? Can those who donate find out where their money went, how much money was collected and distributed to each athlete, ect?Since the money doesn't come directly from the universities I assume the athletes aren't school employees so we can't find out how much each one gets under their NIL deal.

Kai was a D2 guy and that worked out well. The fact that OU is interested in him makes me think he may be worth the risk. He is also went to HS in Hurst so he is a local kid. Definitely have to do our research on him.

Central Oklahoma (Division II) guard Jaden Wells: Wells was named a Division II All-American this season with averages of 21.5 points and 4.2 rebounds. He has also heard from programs such as North Texas, Oral Roberts and UT Arlington, per PDT Scouting.
