JOÃO DAS CHAGAS (aka João victor Moreira)
Shark84 replied to Cooley's topic in UNT Basketball Recruiting
Just saw that he picked up offers from Arizona State and UAB. Would be a great pickup. Good finisher. -
Just saw that Massie is in the portal. How in the heck does he have any eligibility left? He will probably end up at WV.

He can finish at the rim. I like it. Yes please! -
Committed to Murray State.

Robinson was a quality hire. Head coaching experience, 3 straight 20+ win seasons and experience at building a competitive roster without lots of NIL money. Some big basketball donors were not happy with the Hodge hiring but winning quiets a lot of critics.
-
I'm sure the media bonus was for the weekly coaches shows and for pre and post-game radio stuff. He was always very engaging when I saw him at events.
-
I wonder if D-Rob has talked to him and if he would be open to returning if he doesn't get a better offer. 6'6 guards that can score on all three levels are hard to find. He may even be able to play small forward. He definitely looks the part. I wonder if D-Rob looked at any practice video of Mason, Cotton and Vice or talked to Hodge about them. I don't see them going to West Virginia.
-
I really don't see him as a starter at that level. He can probably be a good role player and knows the system.
-
First time in school history that no players or coaches off this year's team will return next season. Thanks NIL and portal.
-
Found this on a NIL/Portal site for college basketball. This is what the Major Conferences are supposedly playing for players right now. PROJECTED ELITE GUYS (Top 10-15): $2.5 to 4 million PROJECTED ALL-LEAGUE PLAYER: $1.5 to 2.5 million PROJECTED STARTERS: $500K to 1.5 million PROJECTED BENCH PLAYER: $200K to 700K This may be why we can't keep our best players. I doubt that we are even close to paying out more than 50-100k for a starter.
-
Maybe he is getting some good NIL money, but you are right. He isn't going to get minutes from Hodge in his first year at a new school. Hodge will need to win from the start to keep boosters that weren't excited about him off his back.
-
I hate to lose Mason as well but it wouldn't have mattered if Hodge had played him or not. If he had played well, he would still be gone. I would have loved to see how he would have developed but...

It's hard for me to get to fired up for next week. Kinda feels like when your girlfriend dumped you for a better-looking guy. If we win, all of the praise will go to Hodge and not the program and University in general. I will still be watching but not with the same passion. I still root for the name on the front but can't help but feel a little mad that they couldn't have waited until after the last game to make the announcement. Hodge is technically West Virginia's coach now. With all of the player movement in the portal, that is the way things are going to be in college sports. It's a business. Coaches and players are going to do what they think is best for them. Why should they have any loyalty to the schools? We as fans live and die with our school. I'm not going to start being a West Virginia or Texas Tech fan now just because our coach went there.
-
Another consideration is what players can they bring with them.
-
Anyone like Josh Howard? I think he could be a great recruiter at UNT but I don't know anything about his coaching abilities or style. I think it would be worth giving him an interview if he was interested. Could be our version of Penny Hardaway in Memphis.
-
No, Mosely was too busy pouring tea at the teacher appreciation luncheon.
-
The chance to be the head coach at a Power 5 school is something I don't think he could turn down. After this last screwup, who could blame him. I hope he stays.
-
With all of these coaching rumors out there, it's probably good that we play almost all seniors with no eligibility left. It won't affect them if Ross leaves at the end of the season. BLo may go with him or to another Power 5. Newell may stay and who knows what the freshmen guys will do. Shouldn't be a distraction. Grant kept all of the Tech stuff quiet until after the NIT Championship game. I'm sure Hodge is not happy about all of this stuff online while his team is still playing. Hope we can play great tonight and go win the whole tournament. GMG!

Coach Burton speaks out on Luncheongate
Shark84 replied to Dannymacfan's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Thanks to Coach Burton for speaking out on this issue. Hodge took the high road because he never wants his teams to have an excuse. It wouldn't surprise me if both left at the first good offer. -
We may not need to worry about that with all the possible turnover in the programs. And there are several on this board that think the NIT is a waste of time. They say NCAA tournament or nothing. Maybe the administration agrees with them.

What kind of scheduling conflict?!

Allen ISD also cares about their student athletes and athletic programs. -
I did and got the same lame statement that they gave to the Record Chronicle. Excuses and no accountability. Oh, but they want our teams to do well as long as it doesn't interfere with our teacher's luncheon.
-
Vegas line is Oklahoma State minus one, so we would have been 2 point favorites at home.

I emailed President Keller and this was the reply I got from one of his assistants. Thank you for writing President Keller and sharing your concerns. The UNT community is proud of our Mean Green men’s basketball team and their success advancing in the NIT. While we would have loved to host the quarterfinal round in the Super Pit, pre-existing commitments – including a campus-wide event and a long-term external contract – are taking the men’s team on the road to face Oklahoma State tomorrow at 8 p.m. While it is not uncommon for higher seeds to travel during the first three rounds in the NIT to accommodate facility availability, we hope our passionate Mean Green fans cheer on the team as they fight to advance to the semifinal round in Indiana. Best regards, Christiana Flores University Brand Strategy and Communications (on behalf of president.unt.edu) -

That was to host the Big 12 wrestling tournament, not a faculty appreciation luncheon. Big difference.
