I'm clearly not as close the situation as some of your longtime fans/alums but it seems like North Texas has made significant strides towards being competitive. I'd argue that UNT's facilities are in the top ten among G5 programs nationally. Financially the institution and program have the infrastructure to succeed in the new AAC. It seems like UNT is committed to putting together a pretty decent NIL collective too. This will serve you well in the transfer portal. Just comes down to hiring the right coaches and holding them accountable. Really that's the only missing piece. I think a big problem is seeing SMU as the bar. That is just not realistic moving forward. SMU is going to be one the leading NIL/transfer destinations in the country regardless of conference affiliation. I do think UTSA, UAB, and Memphis should be good measuring sticks for North Texas. Absolutely no reason the Mean Green can't be right up there with those programs.

Siggers is starting until we get our 5 star running back transfer from Bama up to speed. Then our primary backup TJ McDaniel (offers from Clemson, Oregon, etc.) also is coming back from injury. Nice try though!

Check the roster. The overwhelming majority of SMU players had multiple P5 offers or transferred from P5 programs. There is very little head to head recruiting between SMU and North Texas. Just a fact.

Just b/c you play an opponent a bunch of times doesn't make it a rivalry. SMU is UNT's Super Bowl. That doesn't mean that SMU cares about UNT.

The game is way more important to UNT than SMU. Its an easy win against a regional opponent. Good attendance and easy travel. Nothing more.

Wow. Classy. "Legalized" cheating. lol. And pay for play has been around for decades. Only difference now is that its out in the open. UNT stands to benefit from it just like every other program in the country.

Do you work for free? These kids bust their asses year round for the enjoyment of a bunch of middle aged men. Whatever money they make is earned.

Yeah its so terrible now that kids can be financially compensated for representing your university and have the ability to transfer to a school where they may be closer to home or get more playing time.

SMU is going to tear up a lot of defenses this year. Mordecai is playing at an elite level and we've massively upgraded our depth and skill talent through the transfer portal. If he stays healthy we'll put up 40 points on everyone we play except maybe Cincinnati. I wouldn't write off the season b/c of this game from a UNT perspective. I thought UNT was able to run the ball effectively and just made some seriously killer mistakes in the red zone. UNT will not face an offense of SMU's caliber the rest of the season.

That is a really defeatist take. UNT has the resources, facilities, and infrastructure to be competitive in the AAC and the top end of the G5. As previously cited schools like App State, UTSA, San Diego State, etc. have achieved success in football with less advantages than UNT. SMU is an anomaly and probably shouldn't be the bar but it doesn't mean UNT can't be a 8 plus win program consistently. There is probably no school in the country better positioned to thrive in the transfer/NIL world than SMU.

The last gasps of a dying institution that should've been put out to pasture decades ago. The NCAA's days are numbered and they know it.

I'm sorry this is 100% incorrect. There are a myriad of firms that recruit out of Cox that do not bother with UNT, UTA, or even TCU for that matter. That's a fact. For an entry level position in your generic accounting firm you're probably not far off but if you're going into investment banking/corporate development or high-end consulting your odds of landing at a premiere firm (and making signicantly more money) are better at SMU. Its not even debatable. This isn't intended as a knock on UNT its just a reality.

I keep finding nuggets in this post that are LOL worthy. $650k starter home at 6% for a middle aged guy with two kids? Also, who in their right mind has car payments (let alone on Toyota SUV's). If this guy was any sort of smart he would've re-financed (or financed) last summer at 2.2% on a 15 year note. I guess some people really aren't very good with money?

Also, the vast majority of SMU students do not graduate with six figures of college loan debt. Don't get fooled by the sticker price. No one pays that. I walked out of SMU and didn't owe them a dime.

Between the two groups SMU is now inside the top ten among all of college football NIL collectives. You're right its not 1982 anymore. Now its legal and we've got a handful of billionaires. Fun times ahead.

This initiative goes far beyond the $25k for each player that Tech has published for their NIL. If all goes according to plan, SMU will have the largest NIL fund in the country. Its a moonshot.
