  1. Harry, these SMU posts are going to make people's heads explode with 2.5 months left until our first game against these guys. At a minimum it's going to cause an Anchorman style flight between their fans that troll this board and our guys who love hating on them.
  2. I totally agree. This is funny. Fans from to horrendous teams last year arguing who sucks less. I really have no opinion about SMU because I don't care but this thread is hilarious. It's got evil trolls, angry fans, insults, delusions of grandeur, lies, and chest pounding. This will be comical by the time we actually play. I'll have fun drinking beer at this game while kicking back and watching the pillow fight. I love it.
  3. True, Apogee isn't big but then again not all their away games are played at mammoth stadiums. They have played at stadiums the size of Apogee. I don't see a 1 and 1 but bigger teams might agree to a 2 and 1. I'd love to see us play Baylor again though. They'd kill us but I'd love to play them.
  4. People forget that we almost beat them one of the last times we met. It was at Texas Stadium and our punt returner fumbled the ball and we lost the game. They aren't invincible. Nate Newton and Micheal Irving were in our locker room at half time getting everyone pumped up. They were on our sideline cheering for us. They didn't like A&M at all. It's the kind of team we should schedule.
  5. There'sa fair chance they win more games than us. I hope not, but they might.
  6. There are 2 ways as to look at this. 1 - The article is spot on. 2 - The staff is use to getting discounts and doesn't like being treated like the general public on prices? Its a big business. What do they expect? Just like the many pro sports, especially the NFL, they are pricing people out of the market to be regulars at games. G5 doesn't seem so bad sometimes... Oh, I almost forgot, their AD sounds like a dick and I don't feel sorry for any of them.
  7. Any combination is fine but I just wish the "North Texas" on the helmet were a thing of the past. The current SOW branding is cool IMO. Or our 70s disco Worm is cool if the colors are used on the uniforms.
  8. It's not just UTSA. UTSA wasn't bad and beat or hung in with established programs. He had one good season then laid a duck last year. He blamed it on the other guy for a while, then won a bowl game with many of the other guy's recruits. Then last year, he speaks publicly about how hard it is to recruit in Denton. Basically telling all his current players they suck. If he fails again this year UNT needs to reevaluate the coaching choice. I like him but he needs to think before he speaks and find a damn QB. We had far far far better QBs when we were D1aa. So don't tell me we can't get them here. I don't have time or the knowledge to go over every other position but they need to improve too. In the end, if UNT gets rid of him then they need to pony up real money for a coaching staff to get competitive, but we know that's not in the cards so Mac ain't gonna be going anywhere. So, let's hope he does a better job and our AD learns to schedule better.
  9. Your post is great and your son sounds like a great kid. Part of it reminded me of a funny story of something I witnessed. I'm also not trying to belittle your son's organization either because every organization has special folks. This is just a funny story you reminded me of. I had two former Corp of Cadets use a line similiar to this to my friends and I once at a patio bar called Acietunas in El Paso. Three of my friends laughed as the Aggies ranted about their traditions and military service history (both were in sales, never ROTC, and never served in the military), to three West Point graduates and current (at that time) US Army Officers who all just returned from Iraq about 2 months before this conversation. Obviously three West Pointers weren't impressed with their boasting or the examples of "military" traditions. One of my friends commented it sounded like a fraternity that plays dress up and you can imagine two drunk Aggies going nuts. The two Aggies were escorted away from our table by one of their wives (who was hot) who apologized for their mouths and thanked my buddies for their service. We got a good laugh. The entire place was full of soldiers that night too. It was pretty funny and the poor guys just didn't get why the military folks were completely unimpressed with them.
  10. They don't want you beating up on them again. I watched that game. They were in shock. I loved it.
  11. So, they are talking up hopes of being big fish in a little pond. Gotcha. It's the off season for sure.
  12. It's seriously short sided to not want an SEC school at Apogee. It's small mindedness that UNT is where it is today. Always wishing for more... I for one would love to see a big name come to town. Even if we lose. People might actually see Denton is a blast, we have great facilities, and a nice campus. It's good for the university and city. Want Denton residents to come to games? Give them a reason because five home games with one being Portland State is zero incentive. I hate us playing Portland State at home instead of Oregon State. We use to schedule teams like that but stopped for some odd reason. A&M came up here to play us at Texas Stadium. They wouldn't come play at Fouts because it was trash and I didn't blame them or anyone else. We have great facilities now. What's the excuse this year?
  13. I may get a hotel room downtown even though I live on the DNT. Wouldn't mind hitting the Katy Trail Icehouse after the game. Or party it up before around SMU and head to my hood post game to party it up. IT BETTER NOT START AT 11 AM THOUGH!!!!!
  14. I see wins against SMU (they were really awful last year and seemingly have no QB just like us), PS (because we need to close the program if we lose), UTSA (because of their player losses), and UTEP (because I'm a homer and that trip sucked last season for me). Outside of that I see a lot of losses and very few chances at wins. I'm sad about my predictons but I'm hopeful that I'm completely wrong.
  15. I don't know why anyone would get their feathers ruffled by these guys. They have like 17 fans...
  16. With the Cowboys RB situation it appears they'll be splitting time between McFadden, Randle, Dunbar. That's awesome news for Lance because they haven't used him enough and he's an impressive player. Really quick too.
  17. Very good news. Hopefully he's our team's guy. I hope he has an o-line too. On a side note, I don't know if Mac thinks a lot before he speaks. Speaking about how behind a player is instead of expecting great things out of him is not a great way to motivate. It gives the appearance of playing favorites and at the end of the day its bad leadership. Publicly he should have spoke about how talented he is, what a great recruit he is, the great news of his eligibility and privately he should have spoken to the player about expectations and goals. That's just me though...
  18. Yes to the cacti. You made a very good call assumption. Not exactly like the Tuscan area but there are a few scenes with not native anything. San Antonio area, Gonzalez, Goliad, Victoria are all straight desert with large mountains. It's pathetic all around. I can't watch it anymore.
  19. I'll cheer for any Texas school when not playing UNT except A&M and UTEP. (Odd two I know but I've lived in EP and Aggies remind me of "The Manchurian Candidate".) I can't stand either because of their fans. However, I'd let my daughters go to A&M because it's a good school. UTEP I wouldn't give a dime even though my dad went there. TCU got hosed last year too. Freaking NCAA BS...
  20. I'm keeping my hopes up. I thought Thompson was going to be as awful his senior year as he was his junior year. (I won't mention a word or name of the team concerning the game versus the team from Troy, Alabama. ) Thompson played well his senior year. McNulty might surprise us. I hope he does but this is North Texas Football. They love to break my heart.
  21. I didn't take it that way. I thought it was complimentary. I think these guys write to the lowest common denominator for public consumption.
  22. I have a different perception of how players end up departing. I saw a lot of players come and go when I played at UNT. Some got tired of playing, some ended up getting the boot, some flunked out, some got in legal trouble, ect. There were times when teammates didn't even know why someone departed. Other times the coaches would be brutally honest about situations to teach a lesson of what not to do. Either way there were always theories. Generally it was no surprise but a couple of times it was shocking. With DW there were signs that things weren't going well. Players don't just get suspended because a coach woke up on the wrong side of the bed. They may get benched but not suspended. It sounds like he lost trust and never regained it. There were probably compounding problems that no one will ever discuss because the coaches have already moved on. So has DW. One can only speculate but it's usually multiple issues that lead up to the end. Getting bumped to 3rd string was probably the point DW had enough and it's probably that simple. These days the speculation runs rampant because of the internet. None of this departure is a surprise. Occam's Razor pretty much sums this one up. My two cents anyway...
  23. I hope the SMU game isn't on TV. I want it to be a later game. 11 am was brutal last year.
  24. Hopefully they come back this year with a roster in shambles so we can get at least one W.
  25. So did he quit or get kicked off the team for some reason? Dismissed after Spring practice makes it sounds like he got the boot. Strange.
