MGB: Villarreal -- "We have things we need to finish here"
UNTexas replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
This article makes me dislike RV. Delusional and arrogant come to mind reading this. What other school would put up with his outlandishly terrible performance? It sounds like he is hiding behind building projects. Well guess what Rick, if you build it they won't come because your crappy hires don't win. If he had any class or love for this university he'd resign because he is failing. He's done great with the stadium build but his hires are terrible. The only consistent team is Soccer and RV had zero to do with hiring that great coach. This guy is unreal. -
What about a former UNT alumnus - Clay Jennings
UNTexas replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I played with Clay and he was a GA my last couple of years. Clay is sharp, intense, hard working, young, knowledgeable, and a good honest man. I say honest because the kids see through bullshit. They saw straight through the facade of the last coach and it shows. Mac cried about the size and quality of his players to the media and never shut up about where he came from instead of doing well where he was. If I could spot that as a casual observer then the players were furious. I know I would be. As for Clay, I'd say judging from his career path he's found a niche as a position coach and is doing pretty damn well at it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with not trying to be a head coach. The best coaches are position coaches that are hired by a head coach who can judge their talent as coaches. We just need to find that head coach who can put together a coaching staff and players. This is where RV continues to be a failure. -
I get it's where I graduated from but there are other ways to support UNT other than football. Like taking my family to watch soccer like we already do. I'm not going to run out and become a fan of someone else but I'm not going to run out and watch us get killed either. This is why I haven't been to a games since the home opener and cancelled my trips to Tennessee and Louisiana. I'm a graduate of North Texas and a 4 year Letterman who is fed up with our football program continually rebuilding. The football team is so bad even the TV commentators were laughing at this team. They are an embarrassment to the university. We get blown out every week because we aren't competitive and those players who wear that name on their chest quit on the university, coaches, students, and alumni. Firing a coach won't change that either. I get how good it felt when we played in the HOD Bowl. When 80 teams play in bowl games annually and we go once a decade then I'd say that's pretty ridiculous. I also love blowing thousands on hotels, airfare, tickets, and travel time to go see this team embarrass itself. UTEP last season concluded me traveling to see this team for the foreseeable future. I'll always be a UNT fan but I'm not going to get to worked up over a team that may not be consistently good in my lifetime. If they give me a reason to get excited then I'm all in but I'm not holding my breath. In the meantime maybe basketball will improve. I'm very dissatisfied. I've been on the band wagon for a several decades and continue to be in the wagon. I'm just half asleep in it. This team is like an abusive spouse that keeps beating me, then tells me they are sorry and promise never to do it again. And then I come home again. Uhg, frustrated...

People get what he's saying. Our fan base isn't lousy, our team is. Why should we keep blowing money and time year after year after year to watch this pathetic program? Most people are like me. They are tired of their school being an embarrassment. It sucks and I'm just tired of it.

Isn't he paid to be there?

We are a punchline. Easily the worst team in football.
-
The Good: 1. The team has heart. 2. We are playing a good team. 3. We have a QB now and moving towards the future. 4. The offense is different this week which is really hard to do on a short week. 5. The Defense is fired up. 6. Really important, they showed pride. 7. The entire Offensive scheme is different and better. 8. Potential for big plays. The Bad: 1. We lost. 2. We are rebuilding. 3. Lots of mistakes. 4. Western Kentucky took some injuries that look harsh on a couple players. 5. If this team set up played week 1 we at a minimum win the opener, maybe... 6. Yardage sucks. 7. Smith obviously hasn't gotten 1st team reps because he's not a "gamer". (Get him reps!) The Ugly: 1. Turnovers 2. Turnovers 3. Change came too late. 4. Hold on tho the ball. 5. Fan support on National television. 6. The bench acting the fool, as usual. I'm proud of them tonight after all that's happened. GMG

Yes. They'll add ticket sales but every season ticket holders I know isn't going.

The team got exactly what they asked for when they collectively quit playing. They don't deserve a cheering crowd after that stunt last week.

Houston regent chair pushes to get Big 12 invite for Cougars
UNTexas replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I think BYU would be a better fit then these guys. They have street cred, resume, and history. Not to mention, they are already considered P5 by conferences. -
Will you be attending the WKU game?
UNTexas replied to Matt from A700's topic in Mean Green Football
No. I'd rather spend time with my family and change the channel once WKU starts running it up. -
Drumroll... Ladies and Gentlemen, children of all ages, I give you the lack of discipline and leadership that earned us the title of worst team in the country!!!

MGB: UNT considering forming hiring committee for new coach
UNTexas replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
This is what happens when leadership lacks accountability. RV is not good at the most important function of his job. The only silver lining I can see is if the university leadership feels they have skin in the game they may pony up more to get where the president says he wants this program to go. -
MGB: UNT considering forming hiring committee for new coach
UNTexas replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I submit this committee makes two great choices. Then let RV choose. If he chooses candidate A, then immediately have a really special news conference naming candidate B as the new head coach of the University of North Texas football team.- 78 replies

MGB: UNT considering forming hiring committee for new coach
UNTexas replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
This is an attempt to pass accountability from RV. It's probably his idea. -
I for one didn't think Dickey should go. His departure was strange to me. Simon on the other hand, he was a basket case mentally. The team and athletic department lost all respect for him. Plus, he just turned mean along with his eradic behaviour. Dodge had to go. Obviously, Mac had to go because this is the lowest point I've seen this team. If only we could find a football version of John Hedlund to coach or football team...
-
I'm not interested in this team until they prove they want to play. It hasn't been more than 72 hours since they walked out there and laid down.
-
Sucking year in and year out is the cause of this. People aren't going to waste time and money to see a shitty product. People were showing up until our team decided not to show up. Get use to no butts in seats when you get prison raped by FCS teams at our stadium on Homecoming. The program is a disaster and that is solely the fault of the University, the Athletic department, and the players. Fans will jump on a bandwagon if they have a reason to.

I was bored and view this season as a wash now so I looked up future schedules. Next year we may be looking at a bs 5 home game schedule again. We have Army and Florida on the road and SMU and Liberty at home. Granted Liberty might embarrass us like Portland State but why the hell does RV have an FCS team on the schedule annually? Schedule teams people want to see. RV sucks at scheduling. He should be fired for that alone. 5 home games should get him fired too. Total crap.

I honestly don't know why Mac didn't give Smith a chance. You can't expect anyone to do well at anythingwhen you put them in with their back on the wall. McNulty is a Journeyman player but not a marque player. He's Weedon, not Romo. Cassel not Brady. I want to see Smith start the 1st snap to the last. Mac should have too.

Can someone in the know explain what's going on with fees that fund the athletic department? I was talking to my neighbor, who's an Aggie dad, and he asked why our students don't pay like he does. I didn't have an answer because I don't know anything about it. 37,000 students is big and being the 25th largest school in the US is think it's pretty outrageous we don't seem competitive in the financial department. I know donations are a big deal too. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I like to get my learn on.

The problem is UNT isn't going to pay a head coach the money that a quality head coach would demand.
-
RV should be fired for the ridiculous contract extension alone.
-
They might score 100 on us if yesterday's team show up.

It's Official Chico named Interim Head Coach
UNTexas replied to UNTflyer's topic in Mean Green Football
Bench McNulty immediately. Mac's downfall started at that position. Get D Smith or Means experience. They are the future. McNulty is done in a few weeks. Greer isn't the guy.
