FYI - people keep saying tase the guy or shot him in the leg. A law enforcement officer shouldn't deploy a taser or any other non lethal force when faced with a life threatening situation, like a man charging you with a tomahawk screaming shot me. Police shot to kill, not slow down. Guns are made to kill. This isn't Hollywood. Tasers are great for naked streakers at sporting events. Additionally, the officer was solo and you don't taser people solo. Cops have been killed trying that. So, here in the real world, this officer did his job and deserves the our appreciation for preventing harm to the community by the recently departed. He went home safe too. Not much else to talk about if this is an intelligent conversation.

He brought a knife to a gun fight and charged a cop screaming shot me. Pretty simple stuff people. Whether he was crazy, on drugs, or suicidal is meaningless now. He got exactly what he wanted. Luckily no innocent people were harmed by this lunatic. God bless the officer for his service and I hope he's ok mentally after this guy's senseless rampage around Fry Street. It's easy for people to armchair qb cops but not here with the totality of circumstances.

Harrell will still coach in Sun Bowl
UNTexas replied to All About UNT's topic in Mean Green Football
This isn't front page news. He's coaching one last game with his team and doing it in a fun bowl to go to. He'll be here in January and that's what matters. -
I hope the new staff kicks ass recruiting mostly Texas High Schools then Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana High Schools while doing it annually. Followed by bowl games every year. Then when I'm older I can lecture the youngsters on GMG and grocery store lines about how Coach Seth Littrel turned a faltering program into a legitimate P5 school with 50,000+ students while making even the great Coach Fry look like an amateur. Now this is extremely wishful thinking...

I think one thing is glowingly obvious. Chico is a good man. He is well respected and liked as a person but he was a contributor to the state of this football team being a total disaster. I was really really disappointed in him when he didn't try his hardest (by not playing starters) to send these players out with a win against an opponent we recruit against. I really do wish him the best and like him as a person but he has to be accountable for his part in the disasterous state of our team.

If Mac really only wanted 6'4" plus QBs then some some of UNT's best QBs, such as Mitch Maher, never would have played. Hell, Brett Favre, Drew Brees, Tony Romo, Russell Wilson, Johnny Manziel, ect couldn't play here if that were the case.
-
Best of luck to him. However, an SEC team won't endure his QB evaluations. (Mac holds more blame though.) Tennessee won't allow him to rotate QBs and blow an easy win like he did two weeks ago. That was a disgrace to intentionally set this team up to fail.

Littrell Played Against UNT for Oklahoma in 1998
UNTexas replied to rcade's topic in Mean Green Football
I need some time to think of a way to rebuke this slander against me. I've had 20 years for the OU jokes and the false claim you and the Mrs came up with about me losing a testicle. I will figure out my revenge. It's coming... -
I hope he's here a very long time.

I read Texas wants no part of Houston being in the Big 12. The explanation was recruiting which sounds like bs to me. BYU would be a good fit too.

Create a winning culture. Period. Everything else falls in place after that.

Littrell Played Against UNT for Oklahoma in 1998
UNTexas replied to rcade's topic in Mean Green Football
Now that's funny. I played on the 1994 Southland Conference Championship team, 1995 Independent team and two seasons of the Big West. The reason I know the situation so well is because I was the starting long snapper for North Texas in 94, 95, 96 & 97 minus 2.5 quarters during the Oklahoma game in 95. I was benched by Matt Simon before the Oklahoma game for reasons never explained to me. I was told Chuck Mills fought like hell to keep me as the starter but Simon wanted the #2 guy to start. Needless to say I got my job back in the 3rd quarter in Norman after a second bad snap that went over the punters head. I'll leave the names out even though it doesn't matter now and give y'all the readers digest version. OU pinned us on our own goal line. On 3rd down our tailback fumbled on a run up the middle. It appeared it was OU ball. It wasn't, the tailback recovered. OU ran their offense on the field. Our defense and punt team both started running on the field. Half our team realized it was still our ball. The defense returned to the sideline. OU still had their offense on the field. 10 members of our punt team lined up, minus a future All American/NFL punter. It's the up backs job to count players and he didn't. OU was switching out personnel so it should have been an easy free punt. The up back was screaming "snap the ball" over and over. The long snapper had never been on the field before and absolutely not in front of a sold out OU crowd. He did what the up back told him to do. He snapped the ball out of the endzone, minus a punter, for a safety. So, who do you think was the long snapper in the media guide? Yours truly. ESPN ran it all year. Letterman called me the dumbest player in college football. My answering machine was full for weeks. My friends make fun of me to this day, although they know what happened. So, where was I. Truth be told, the punter, kicker and I thought it was a fumble and we had been admiring a couple of OU coeds a couple of feet behind us. Crucify us for checking out girls/cheerleaders but that is standard operating procedure no matter what is going on at 20 years old. The punter saw what was happening and tried to run out. The long snapper should have taken the delay of game and backed up two feet but lacked experience, especially in the craziness of a large crowd. In the end, I never screwed up a snap in four seasons and snapped the ball to 2 All-Americans who both went on to the NFL. Thankfully, few ever knew my name.- 38 replies

Littrell Played Against UNT for Oklahoma in 1998

No. Your memory is a bit off. 1995 is the year of that awful play. The absent punter was already in the NFL in 1998. The kicker, punter, and I were bs-ing with each other on the sideline next to the kicking net when the snap went out of the endzone with no punter. It's a long story. No one on GMG has ever gotten this story remotely correct. I know the situation like the back of my hand and have never told it either. Not online anyway. Any team of the 90s would have embarrassed this year's team. -
No doubt he's a good man and I've always liked him. He always said the right things too. However, I too was emotional that game. I was pissed he didn't play to win. He decided to run the team like a scrimmage. We lost because of this. We should have won but he didn't play to win. I appreciate all he did here but there is no way to explain why he didn't play our best players.

I think you are confusing the meaning of Brokeback Mountain. I like where your heart is but I don't think it's on Brokeback Mountain. I can't stop laughing. We need to get you better parking and a viewing of this film. Good stuff.

I'm sorry. This is to soon. Bury the body before you move on. I can't fathom thinking about this yet.

ACC Championship Game - Biggest Non-UNT game of the year?
UNTexas replied to SHOSS's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't know. I can't see past the tears in my eyes that started flowing week 2 after our bye week when hope left us. All is lost. Until August.
