This philosophy means you can't recruit. Simon tried it at UNT and failed. I was there when he tried it. It was a disaster. Division 1 football isn't for everyone, not even close. It's actually for a tiny percent. The NCAA told us during our orientation 1 and approximately 5,500 high school players will ever play a single down on a D1 field. Walk ons have a place but it's absolutely not in any way, shape, or form what you want to be known for. If we are, then RV will be looking for Littrell's replacement and GMG will still be a depressed place. Let's keep our fingers crossed that our new coach can recruit like a good program does and not hope for a gimmick.

My brother specifically went to UTD for their technology and science programs. It's what UTD is known for. I like Houston but they couldn't hold UTD's jock in this department. Neither can UNT.

I do have a question though, years ago when I was in school I heard talk at the athletic department about changing our school name from UNT to Texas State. I gave it no thought and a few years later heard Southwest Texas became Texas State. What occurred to to change their name?

All UNT needs to be concerned with is winning games. Lately our football and basketball teams have been nothing but an embarrassment. We can't honestly care about what anyone else does or what the conference does until football and basketball stop embarrassing the university by losing every chance we get.

100% true statement. Players only deal with the AD when he/she gives atta boy handsakes at practice, games, or events. The position coaches are the people in the players lives the most but the head coach runs everything that involves the players.

I couldn't agree more. Smith showed positive signs when no one else did. I want last year in the rear view. Let the other guys play Special Teams, reciever, or run the scout teams. I get the scholarship angle, however, academics are more important than athletics in my opinion. I love UNT but it just doesn't compete with Yale on a resume. That being said, if my kids went to any of the schools he's choosing from I'd be thrilled.
