Is Playing As An Independent an Option?
UNTexas replied to TCC Mean Green's topic in Mean Green Football
This was our last season as an independent. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1995_North_Texas_Mean_Green_football_team I wouldn't recommend it for us again. It was really really tough. Our team then was better than our current team too. If we were an independent they would most assuredly pimp the team out for money again. It would be an embarrassing disaster. The injuries alone would cost games against beatable teams. -
Where did we go wrong? Where do we begin for our program?!?! Someone on here is about to write an epic history of NT highs, lows, and missed opportunities. Lol

The coach calling for us to forfeit was laughable.
-
And NT was scouffed at for offering to pay their way to Denton. Watch us end up playing here or Midland.

ESPN announces massive layoffs, job cuts as COVID-19 impacts revenues
UNTexas replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Totally agree. I think sports in general are suddenly figuring out that injecting their politics into sports is hurting them. The NBA in particular was hit really hard. The players may not care but their owners sure do. People aren't going to pay or spend time to watch a protest. ESPN needs to seriously start changing or another start up will knock them off their throne. I kind of think sports was starting to decline some anyway. College has monopolies now so the fix is in. NFL is still big but numbers are down and the Cowboys are laughable. NBA is boring and for me unwatchable now. Loved the 80s and 90s though. MLS is fun but watching washed up players from other countries kneel during our national anthem is a great way to increase your brand. MLB is always fun at the games but not really on TV. But we can't go to games. College basketball broke my heart when we didn't get a shot at the tournament. Screw you Rona. Maybe this pandemic has shifted peoples priorities? I certainly am only missing NT sports but not really missing the others.- 9 replies

I bet we don't play a single game the rest of the year.

Generally at work or raising kids. Is it just for seniors or all players? -

We will play but I doubt we make up every game. I really hope the NCAA gives these players another year of eligibility becsuse the season is kind of a wash. -
I wonder if they'll start crying FIU should forfeit? They should have taken the deal to play here on our dime. https://www.elpasotimes.com/story/sports/2020/11/03/fiu-wont-play-utep-football-saturday/6149620002/

Just wait until FIU doesn't travel to EP next week. UTEP is going to freak out. There might not be enough dates for them to reschedule in December. It's not their fault, nor ours, nor FIU's fault if that occurs. Hell, a couple infections out there and UTSA game could be a no go. No reason to get worked up. The season is just messed up by 2020 karma.

It appears to me that UTEP is throwing a bit of a temper tantrum. They don't get that the optics are bad. Canceling is a smart move. Being from EP I would accept a free trip up here any day of the week. They also could have contacted recruits to attend. As a parent, I would think being unprofessional and upset about a game cancelation (and its just a game) over the safety concerns would steer me away from UTEP if my kid was a recruit. (But then again I wouldn't let my kids go to UTEP anyway.) Anyway, their coach needs to chill out and grow up.

It would be cool if we made a bowl during the nonsense that is 2020. Especially if it were a local bowl. I know most don't like the Frisco Bowl but I live near it and we are building a campus a stone throw from the stadium.

GMG.Com Becoming Twitter-Like
UNTexas replied to KRAM1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I'm not on Twitter, Facebook. Instagram, Myspace, or whatever else is out there. I have my phone, email, and GMG account. I think that's already a lot. I cut the cord so I don't have to watch network TV or news. Its great. -
Sports Viewership
UNTexas posted a topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Just an observation. The numbers are down across all sports for people watching. I thought numbers would be super high after the quarantine. (I realize some folks are annoyed listening to athletes lecture their opinions which hurts numbers. Especially with folks exhausted from the news and opinions.) That aside I think people probably view sports as less important now. The trails by my house have people on them a lot. As a cyclist I have long waIts on tune ups and have noticed more people on the road. Forget just walking in and getting a good affordable kid bike. The gym is a bit less crowded but forget finding weights for home. Golf is pretty crowded too. Those are just the things I do. I kind of think millions of people have found other things to do other than watch sports. I wonder if its permanent? Seems it might really kill movie theaters too. $15 popcorn doesn't help that much either. -
All 127 FBS Teams Automatically Bowl Eligible This Year
UNTexas replied to MGNation92's topic in Mean Green Football
We don't or should I say don't deserve a bowl at all. -
I think next season will be a good metric. 2020 is a wash. We know who our QB is. Offense is putting points up. Special Teams mental mistakes can be fixed. The Defense is a dumpster fire. Always being in poor field position with bad Special Teams is tough. Add no Defense to that equation and no offense has a chance. The team seems to be heading in the wrong direction. 2020 is basically over already. If they don't fix the massive holes this off-season then changes have to be made. My thoughts anyway.

We Have The Worst Special Teams in America
UNTexas replied to Green Lantern's topic in Mean Green Football
Remember when we had amazing Special Teams? I miss that. Two All American punters, kickers that made field goals, and we beat big programs every once in a while. People forget how important Special Teams are. -
The team is losing but I am not overly upset. We had a lot of players out with the rona last week. The team is playing bad but they aren't quitting like they did with McCarney. Really I am happy there is a season at all. A lot of sports aren't even playing. It sucks but I don't want to sound alarms yet.
-
I know its a dumpster fire but the D is our biggest issue. If we could just stop ridiculous long plays we would be 2-2 or 3-1. I think the offense looks good. However Special Teams is, um, well crap too.

It kinda feels like all sports have been a downer this year. I also could use some movie popcorn with butter. Everything is off.
