I don't see how they can in good conscience keep Briles while firing Starr. I mean, I get it: Football. But this is bigger than that. I think they will eventually succumb to public pressure and let Briles go as well. Especially if more allegations surface, which they no doubt will.

Getting to know new C-USA TV partner beIN Sports

Also, almost no one has it. -
Anyone catch this: "It just felt like the right time. I think with a new football coach coming in, with basketball in a situation where there may have to be a decision made " So handing the reigns over for the new AD to fire Benford and hire a new coach?

As always, and it's subjective. But the good ones seem to know when it's time and make it happen or not happen. That was always one of RV's weakest traits.- 175 replies

Rick Villarreal stepping down as AD
ChristopherRyanWilkes replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
No, there's no way. Litrell was most likely the President's hire anyways, and nothing wrong with being on a short leash as long as it is reasonable. If Seth doesn't get it done in a reasonable time-frame wouldn't we want the new AD to fire him? Something RV was always slow to do.- 175 replies

Rick Villarreal stepping down as AD
ChristopherRyanWilkes replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Or, they didn't want the president to make two major hires in lieu of a new AD. I don't know that Benford is safe now, but that's just me. Would that not be a call of the new AD? Don't know how common or uncommon that is, terminating a coach right off the bat after being hired. I think it would be warranted in this situation.- 175 replies

I think the President just finally got through to the Board. That's the only explanation for this. Fly has been quiet for a while now and there was already rumblings of dissatisfaction from the donors about this basketball season. I think Benford's season this year may have been the straw that broke the camel's back.- 175 replies

Yeah, but it's obvious they are listening to the president now. I believe he had final say on the Littrell hire as previously reported and a search for a new AD has been ongoing for a while. That's just my own speculation.- 175 replies

So many questions. But, does this confirm that Littrell was the president's hire? Otherwise, why let him make one of the most important hires a few months from him being on his way out. Unless this was totally unexpected.- 175 replies

Wow! That text message was quite the way to start my Monday this morning. Holy cow. I'm so jacked, but this next AD hire is critical.- 175 replies

An optimistic view of the spring scrimmage
ChristopherRyanWilkes replied to Tyler Maryak's topic in Mean Green Football
Personally, I didn't understand the negativity coming out of the Spring game. To me, it looks like we have at the very least a decent QB and a capable back-up behind him. Something we haven't had in a bit. I was less worried about the WR group after seeing Tee Gorree. Defensive line also looks improved. For the first scrimmage in a new system, I didn't see anything of significant concern.- 9 replies

Five observations from the North Texas spring game
ChristopherRyanWilkes replied to GMGEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Yes, just like Todd Dodge, except one has actually successfully ran his offense at a college level. I knew the Dodge comparisons were going to come, but this soon?- 44 replies

Five observations from the North Texas spring game
ChristopherRyanWilkes replied to GMGEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
I agree, just would add the obvious that it's hard to judge from the spring game. Offensive line could just look bad because d-line is so good or vise-versa. Secondary may be better than they appeared because QBs have more time and less pressure than in real games, etc.. One thing is for sure, the play calling is much improved on offense. We expected that though.- 44 replies

What r u going to b looking 4 ?
ChristopherRyanWilkes replied to Wag Tag's topic in Mean Green Football
Thought the exact same thing. Just watched the game, skipping around a lot. Offense should be drastically improved IMO. Didn't mind watching it online though. Seemed like a typical spring game to me. They are never too intense. -
Was it Dan McCarney issuing the apology in his best Seth Littrell voice?

This is a university wide problem. Remember when we lit the tower green to mourn Paris, but also celebrate a volleyball win? It really leaves you shaking your head sometimes. #budget #AboveTheRestForThousandsLess

Coach Harrell Mic'd Up
ChristopherRyanWilkes replied to MeanGreenTexan's topic in Mean Green Football
I mean, not that I don't already that SMU has historically kicked our tail in football, but it doesn't mean you should tell the fans "it's not a rivalry, it has to be competitive to be a rivalry." That remark has always bothered me. Like his constant reminder that this program is/was a joke in the grand scheme of things and we should all worship him for getting us one bowl win. -
Good points. I definitely knew about the small percentage holding law degrees. I figured the number from UT and A&M might have been higher. Just seems like a lot of the power brokers have ties to those two, with the last two governors being UT and A&M grads, Greg Abbott also being an attorney. I just remember hearing an anecdote about UT teaming up with Tech and UofH to block A&M's acquisition of South Texas School of Law back in the day. This was because UT didn't want A&M to have a law school and Tech was still sour about A&M blocking Tech's vet school.. Lots of school politics, that's for sure.

Not many on here were recent DFW-area high school football players. He had first-hand insight on recruiting that not many of us had, that and his time consuming research. I don't understand what you want Harry to do about that... I support his decision 100% and I haven't been posting as much on the board either since we retained Benford. I suspect come fall I might be back more but right now it is too depressing, even with the excitement Littrell's staff seems to be bringing.

I sincerely hope he gets the Oklahoma job when (or if) Stoops retires in a couple years. That would be amazing for our program.

MGB: Breaking news -- Calvin Minor arrested

Never thought about it that way, but you're right. Seems like it would lower officer discretion.
