Except it'd be hard for them to play two bowl games. Miss State going to Florda. St. Pete.
-
Twas the night before bowl selection. More bowls filling in. If we aren't in HoD I'd be shocked. Idaho bowl: Idaho in a swap with MAC. Arizona Bowl: South Alabama.

Miss State filling in at St Petersberg. Houston to play MWC champ in Vegas. Looking more and more like DFW at least is a lock for us. Still HoD as most likely. Navy will be playing in Armed Forces. More to come...

My favorite thing about this thread is that we are arguing about whether Dallas or Fort Worth is a better bowl destination for us, under a young first year head coach, after 1-11 & Portland State. #GMG.

That was my first thought. Vegas against Boise State? A swap for Indy bowl?
-
This is crazy but amazed we are likely headed to Heart of Dallas again. Stoked!

I think @FirefightnRick is a postman or something, but he might have some advice for him.

Gonna miss seeing #19 out there. Hope you and your family can still make some games in the future. You know our tailgate is always open. Thanks for the insight over the years, Steph.

Lots of Transfers available
ChristopherRyanWilkes replied to MeanGreen_MBA's topic in Mean Green Football
Why don't you like the rule? It gives guys who have sat on the bench for 4 years a chance to play in their last year of eligibility while rewarding them for graduating. They can then get at least a year of a masters program paid for. I don't see any harm in that, unless you mean transferring in general I guess... -
Aka the first lesson we are taught in law school.

This is why lawyers suck.

It's not possible for us not to get a bid. They have to offer us before any other non-6 win teams. That would entail cancelling a bowl game. It's just being technical.

Wren Baker on Bowl Game Possibilities
ChristopherRyanWilkes replied to ChristopherRyanWilkes's topic in Mean Green Football
LaTech president says they want Heart of Dallas too. If they win, they will undoubtedly pick it. If they lose, there may be some politics involved. The conference might have to dangle the carrot of a better opponent elsewhere to coax them. I think there is an unspoken preference to teams with better records getting their pick over lower record teams. -
If we get HoD and both Sun Belt teams win, they will have an extra team to fill-in somewhere. I believe we would and should play one of them, likely South Alabama. Not an opponent to get excited about, but one we have a chance to beat. At 8-4 I wanted a Big 10 team. Right now, I'm fine with a Sun Belt team.

As a graduate on the "A" side, I'm totally for the "S" side getting the bulk of the funding and being separate. One of the biggest positives I pointed out when Smastresk was hired was his scientific background. Those positions are generally the ones that will be making major breakthroughs in research that get you recognized as an institution. Nothing against the arts, again I'm a graduate with a degree in one, but it's just a fact of life. Hope we continue funding and focusing on STEM education, our arts programs are strong.

No. Currently, and it should stay this way, the HoD bowl will not be against a Big 10 opponent. -

Awesome analysis, I'm getting a more and more sneaking suspicion we end up in HoD. Their attendance has been horrendous since we played there. LaTech didn't prove they could travel well to Dallas. If they lose and don't get to select it, I can see them getting into another game as a fill-in to play a better opponent and us in HoD against maybe a Sun Belt team. Hey, I'll take it. -
Tashard Choice, UNT Ambassador?
ChristopherRyanWilkes replied to Caw Caw's topic in Mean Green Football
Yeah I had no idea and would have noticed because I definitely remember him. Maybe a lower level assistant? ETA: It appears he is a Cowboys coach, so yes this is probably part of the agreement. Very cool. -

Yeah well we actually agree on this. It is all about money and only the guys at the top are getting any. They fail to remember that those games can draw good ratings, at least after the fact on the networks. See: Boise State vs. OU. -

Very interesting observation, I hadn't taken the ESPN effect into account. They are also all games that won't be filled by conference tie-ins, mostly because P5 conferences don't have enough teams for their bowl tie-ins. It seems like ESPN or whoever the powers in charge are make it more and more difficult for a G5 team, even a conference champ, to get a P5 match-up and potentially embarrass the big boys. -

ETA:More recent tweets from the interview indicate HoD is his first choice but we will indeed have to wait to see how this weekend pans out. If not local, somewhere fun. Aka Vegas or Florida. Good warm weather destinations and bowl games in my opinion. -
The list is: Cure, St. Petersburg, Heart of Dallas, Armed Services, and Las Vegas according to The Wren. Per a tweet by Reece Waddell at NT Daily. On my iPhone or I'd post the tweet. So there you have it. #GMG

I mentioned it in another thread but basically right now I believe the unfilled ones are Armed Forces, Vegas, Quick Lane, and St Petersburg. The outliers right now are UNT, MissSt, and Army. One more will be decided Saturday.
