Obviously, those stadiums are great, and a much better environment than anything we deal with in the Belt, but with capacity easily upped to 50,000, we could be the crown jewel of many conferences, rivaling even AQ's. Your conference did great things to lift other teams to different places. I think it's a win-win for everyone.

I agree that we do suffer a bit with only a few non-aq teams remaining in state, however, the way I see it, we instantly have the best football venue in C-USA, one of the better basketball facilities, academically I'd put as against anyone, and I see this as a plus to get the "under the radar" recruits that propelled us to success in the early century (weird saying that). I don't see much of a growing pain era against the CUSA lower teams, and I would see us definitely being able to compete at a level with Rice, UTEP, Memphis, Marshall and UAB right away. The smart move for both parties is us to move into SMU's place. I don't think we're far away from 7 or 8 wins. I could easily see us moving into that 8 win slot next year with savvy JUCO recruiting. I think C-USA recognizes that. I also think we have a good hand to play with one wild card in the Mountain West that I see barnstorming their way to an AQ conference very soon- San Diego State. If MW loses SDSU, they will desperately need to replace a large market almost immediately, and I could see them as viable for invitation to possibly the Big 12, which Tubberville has already mentioned, in the very near future. This gives us two ways to fill that void as well- large market and another footprint in Texas. Either way, ladies and gents, I don't see us long in Sun Belt. Imagine a possible recruiting pipeline out west? Being in Cali, I'd love to see us get some of that west coast speed.

Beware logic, it has a tendency to irritate the irrational thought process that comes with expecting a team that could count its wins on one hand over the last three years to make a bowl game this year citing "we should elevate our expectations because we're playing Sun Belt talent". Your post will suffer the consequences.

We're on the outside looking in. There are obviously things going on that we don't understand. Maybe neither of them have a grasp on the offense. Maybe McNulty is the lesser of two evils. We can debate, naysayers can p1$$ and moan until they feel they get their way and Osborne gets playing time however, and I'm sure I'll get -785 on my profile for this one (fire for effect upon reading, if you so choose), but we don't see. Maybe Osborne is a rock making idiotic decisions in practice making McNulty #2 by default. Maybe he has an attitude problem. Maybe there are a number of factors that the average fan doesn't see during practice. If you played any sport growing up, be that football or squash, you know for a fact that evaluation is done during practice. Maybe Osborne is more jacked up than a football bat in practice. Until we know everything, it is all heresay and speculation and incontinent complaining about a pipedream that was a bowl season this year and variables that we will never see. Feel free to molest my profile rating.

Of all the bad posts I've read, that one takes the prize. Wow. I really doubt we need that kind of attitude. With a chance to finish at or close to 500 this year, it's a pretty substantial turnaround. I know everyone expects instant 9-3 or 10-2, but seriously, the team has shown MASSIVE improvement. Now, we just need to get the horses.

Bad news. Really bad, bad news.

To be expected on this board. I find myself less and less excited to come here and discuss the intricacies of North Texas football. While I am glad the 200 ravenous fans we have are centrally located on this board, it does get frustrating reading this at times.

So, we're calling McNulty playing a question of nepotism, to use the term quite loosely? At this point, Thompson is the guy for the rest of the year, at which point, he'll reevaluate the situation and maybe give Osborne a chance next year. We're 3-6, with a chance to win out and finish .500. I know you guys are going to come after me guns blazing for having "low expectations", but I'm actually thoroughly impressed with the prospect of even finishing one game below .500. This is a good sign of progress, considering the train wreck we've been. Now, blast me to negative town.

Two words- electric chair. Think of the advantage we have when our players become accustomed to the smell of charred flesh. Plus, it would serve as entertainment, a warning to would be scoff laws, help with prison population, and finally, we can start playing new years bowl games and use it to ring in the new year. They let TCU take the frog horn to Pasadena, they should let us bring old sparky wherever.

Confidence will be a huge bonus for us after last week, but it's going to have to be a flawless performance. We can do it, but it's going to take the game of a lifetime from several individuals.

Greeks are in fact torn based on the fact we want to support our school, but the school beats on the greeks. I will defend something that helped me get where I am today because I learned a good deal of leadership and was able to hone that into my daily life. Its hard, because my greek experience gave me the tools to succeed in my career, where my school simply gave me a prerequisite to get my job. I owe much to my fraternity, and little to my school. To call out my arguments about homecoming, well, you've never been a part of a greek homecoming. You would never understand the politics and pomp and circumstance behind a ridiculous dog and pony show. Being a part of it, greek alums come home for the greeks, 90% of the time, not the school. From the outside in, you can't understand, and from the inside out you can't explain it.

What would you know about, Keith? Care to make sniping remarks from the sidelines or join our conversation. I don't mind differing opinions, but be prepared to make poignant and astute comments. Don't bring a knife to an artillery fight.

1- stop calling it a frat. Do you call your country a, well, I don't need to finish that. 2- the blame does not rest solely on the greek system. They are students, and students are apathetic regardless of affiliation. 3- Jackasses are jackasses. It's easy to single out someone because they're wearing greek letters, however, how many rowdy students are tailgating out there not being singled out? THAT is outright discrimination. This is a huge problem since I left UNT. 4- Any desire to help the university IN ANY CAPACITY is eroding as we speak based on the reception that they are getting. Would you want to participate if you bust your hump to put together the largest contribution of the homecoming parade, bring back hundreds, in some cases thousands of alums, for homecoming and march them to the stadium if this was how you were going to be treated?

Greeks on the Hill (NT Daily Letter to the Editor)

Why are we blaming the greeks about only 10k students are showing up? Do you really think that students are turned off by rowdy drinking and occasional profanity and deciding to not go to the stadium? Turn off your naivety, brah. Better yet, if your brother in law gets a speeding ticket, obviously, its your fault because you're affiliated with your brother in law. -
If we're going to go big, let's go big. Fan Death Match at half time, spiked clubs and morning stars to the first 10,000 fans. Bags to fill with urine to throw where you wish to all children under ten. Finally, we'll let lose a hungry bear and encourage fans to use their children as human shields. NOW THAT'S A HOME FIELD!

My wife was stoked about San Diego State being mentioned, but no chance.

Greeks on the Hill (NT Daily Letter to the Editor)
BadKarma replied to Ibleedgreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Here's the sad part- people wonder why Greeks don't want to go to the game? Look how they're treated. The campus, as a whole, bad mouths them, they are pidgeonholed, blamed for the societal woes of the Denton community, and because they're cut loose after killing themselves getting ready for homecoming, which speaking from experience, is a pain in the @$$, they become social pariahs. On top of that, when they do try to muster support for the athletic program, they usually are ignored, protested or mocked as just being privileged miscreants simply out to rage. Can you blame the greeks for not wanting to be involved? This will PERMANENTLY be the downfall of the University of North Texas. We don't have enough brahs and she-brahs (yes, I'm from Cali) to counter the goofy hacky sack crowd that used to hang out at the tomato before they went branch davidian and burned it down. Diversity is great, but when it turns into what North Texas is with so much infighting that no one can get behind the athletic program, will, go watch PCU with Jeremy Piven, Jon Favreau and David Spade. You'll see what I'm getting at. WE'RE NOT GONNA PROTEST! -

Does anyone know how to submit a letter? As a Greek alum, I really feel I have to say something. -
Wait, wait, wait... most people say something like that and they get a-9999 on their ratings. Has this board gone soft? Agree, lets be realists, and lets talk football and less complaining. Although, I'm waiting for bi-polar posts to resume next week.

A Big Thank You To SoundManEric From The Mean Green Nation

Well, the talons are an easy target, based on previous experience. But, many thanks to the generous alums. -
1. Let's be honest, the Greek community has never been that "welcomed" at UNT. They've been bullied, victims of administrative which hunting, mocked by the counterculture that almost rules the university, it's kind of a given that they are hesitant to come around and they keep to themselves on a regular basis. However, the community at large needs to realize that even if they're only 10 percent, which I am assured is the actual population now, that is 3600 students that could help with the student section- one that could get very loud. Harness that force, and you've got a legit home field advantage. Lets look at successful home fields and realize one thing, using LSU, Alabama, Florida, USC, Wisconsin, Ohio State- huge, active greek systems. Would you want to be a part of something when everyone bad mouths you?

1. It is a good sign that this is what we're bitching about. However, You want traditions to come organically, this seems to have just, well, happened. We need anything that will get people excited about the team. The play is better, but if it creates a ravenous environment, hand out kazoos and airhorns for heaven's sake. 2. We should be so lucky to even remotely live up to "death valley jr" (Clemson). Have you ever been to a game there? It's amazing.

Nonetheless, they are a growing and powerful presence at the campus, and we'd be remiss to neglect their contribution. Perhaps it's time I talked to my alumni chairman and find out what needs to be done to get them into the stands.
