  1. That's where I think many UNT fans misunderstand (IMO). Of SMU's 12,000 students, 5,000 are grad students. Of the 7,000 undergrad, a very large percentage are on scholarship (or don't meet your stereotype). So while you're busy hating some "over-privileged SMU fan", you're probably blasting some Altima driving SMU fan that doesn't come close to mirroring the said stereotype.
  2. SMU has attendance problems, but they draw 20k+ (forgot the '2') and will sell out against bigger opponents (TCU, Baylor, A&M, etc.). Still 20k sucks and needs to increase 50% -- at least.
  3. Agree. I think most of these kids understand it's just part of the game. SMU will likely "lose" 3-4 kids over the recent issues, but nothing huge. I put the "lose" in quotes because I'm not sure they were ever coming to SMU. As far as Walling, I hear SMU has been following him for a while, but they really tried to beef up the line with some Juco kids. SMU doesn't need young guys as much as they need guys that can play next year. There are many factors that go into why a recruit picks a school. I never get too worked up when a kid switches, and you shouldn't either if he switches to SMU. TCU snagged Carter Wall last year, it happens. I promise this won't be the last kid that switches between SMU and UNT (if he does switch)...next time it may go the other way.
  4. Those two comments sum it up pretty nicely if you ask me. Fair comments...
  5. There are going to be UNT fans that hate and SMU fans that are arrogant. Hopefully the rest of us can find common ground and keep the debate/discussion civil.
  6. I'm sorry you feel that way. I'm sure more than one SMU fan has given you good reason to feel that way.
  7. I think he may have cracked that code! Why all the SMU hate? Do I need to give you a hug?
  8. My apologies. Thanks for providing the link.
  9. Ahhh, sorry. Didn't see it. Just hearing some stuff about this kid.
  10. What's the story with Chase Walling? Good player? Firmly committed?
  11. That's what many (most?) SMU fans want to say as well. His coming back may end up being worse than his leaving. I must say though, you guys had some fairly civil comments. Kudos for the class MG!
  12. Sorry UNT folks. Hearing from a couple of MWC and CUSA fans that this is really picking up steam. Keep it up, your shot will come.
  13. Uh, way off. If you look at the picture you can see the band on the field -- it's half time. The "home side" is usually pretty packed for all games (and it was surprisingly full for this game). Now, SMU just needs to work on the East side. You're all more than welcome!!!
  14. They want the logo to appear "right side up" on TV (and home fans want the same). Even against crummy teams SMU will pull the 15k "loyal" fans to make the home side pretty full (this game was an exception for the previously noted reasons). Where SMU falls way short is packing the visitor side (which is shown more on TV). SMU should pack the stadium and not depend on a visiting team to do so; however, most games this year had been 20-25k and that's a decent start. Starting next year, bringing teams like Baylor, TCU, Boise, Houston, Air Force, Cincy, etc. to campus will help a bunch with #'s. Good luck Green.
  15. Announced was around 15k, which is about right (sad, but accurate). The cameras always show the East side (which should be full of SMU fans, too), but the West side (plus Stadium Club) has far more people. It's going to take more time to earn back SMU fans. You can't suck for 20 years and expect fans to jump right back on board. This year didn't have one exciting home game, and this last game was expected to be a dud. Thanksgiving weekend, cold and crappy, students gone, RICE, and poor SMU QB play. Many of us were actually surprised we had as many fans as we did. In any case, sorry you didn't get to six wins this year. Hopefully you're in good shape for next year.
  16. It's looking more like the CUSA/MWC monster will stick with its 18 members (9 and 9). I hope this is wrong as I would love to see UNT get an invite. Good luck guys! http://www.witn.com/home/headlines/Conference_USA_Mountain_West_To_Complete_134289338.html
  17. I'm sorry to not have made your "good Pony" list, but I agree with your post 100%. You're of course welcome to always visit Ponyfans, but if I were a UNT fan, I wouldn't go there.
  18. You guys are putting stock in what the dumbest Ponyfans poster (StallionModelT) has to say? This is why I constantly say UNT fans have it wrong. At least half of Ponyfans posters have StallionModelT as a "foe". Ignore him, we do.
  19. You're a great poster! I wasn't looking for an argument. I was about to type something very similar, but I see you beat me to it!!!
  20. Fair enough. I suggest UNT break off the series with SMU and never play them again.
  21. I can't blame you for feeling that way. There have been, are, and likely always will be those that don't see the value in local competition. SMU is no exception. If possible, please don't judge me or Comet by some predetermined standard.
  22. Very true. SMU was in a very similar situation when it appeared that either the Big 12 or the Big East was going to die (and leftover parts from the one that died would join the other). The only scenario that worked for SMU is one that had the Big 12 and BE live -- as separate conferences. It appears UNT may be in the same boat with MWC/CUSA. You need for them to break off their marriage, otherwise they may not add any teams -- they don't need to. Again, best of luck Green!! SMU is not he enemy. We're playing aginst the system just like you good people.
  23. Unfortunately, this is spot on with what I'm hearing. I know many at SMU hope UNT gets the opportunity, but the "word" is that no schools will be added. The MWC/CUSA monster will condense into the remaining schools. Hope this is wrong, but everything I'm hearing says otherwise. Best of luck guys!
  24. Very very sound advice. My point wasn't to alienate anyone on this board (just splash a little water on rj...). My apologies. As far as the validity of rankings, I totally agree that you need to take them with a grain of salt and be more cognizant of specific programs. There may be programs at UNT that are among the best... My point was a rebuttal to his claim that there is a minimal perceptual gap (in fact UNT is better perceptually). I disagree -- knowing that is worth zilch on this board. Thanks to the kind UNT posters for keeping me honest.
  25. I direct this ONLY to rjmunthe (as most UNT fans are pretty level-headed). How about when you guys break the 500's in rankings we'll talk: http://www.forbes.com/lists/2010/94/best-colleges-10_Americas-Best-Colleges_State_22.html http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-universities/page+7 http://www.forbes.com/top-colleges/list/#p_1_s_arank_TX
