Exactly!

I agree, I don't understand how attendance was so low. Maybe the empty Wing Zone? Student side was mostly full, as well...

I'm a pretty passionate fan (I'm one of the guys heckling the team all game long) but rushing the field every game is moronic and is belittling to our program.

The frats were ridiculous. They all need to be punched in the face. Every person in every frat.

There's a core base of 15K die-hard UNT fans who are loud and rowdy. No one wants to play here, we're so...vicious, I guess. It's why no one likes playing in the Pit. Keep winning this year...that goes to 20K. And so on, so forth. Excited about our future.
-
Except that at some point security is going to get beefed up.
-
I'm pretty sure that was gate numbers. There were SO MANY more people there than there was versus FAU. And the student section is mainly only the middle. There were the same amount of students there as there was at Indiana or Houston, in my opinion. Furthermore, a lot stayed home for the Rangers I bet.
-
That was a statement win. We may not beat Arkansas State, but, I won't die if we don't. What proves to me this team is different is when ULM got the ball back with 6 or 7 minutes left and we punched them right in the mouth. I had a bad feeling that this game was done for. Between being a UNT and a Texans fan, the 4th quarter is deadly to me. But UNT got stronger as the game went on. I don't see why we won't dominate here on out.
-
They had swagger and displayed toughness. They looked great on O and like the best D in the Sun Belt. Confidence. Dodge's team never looked like this. We looked like we fell into our wins under Dodge. ULM beat up Troy. No reason we can't win 3 out of 4 and go bowling. Also, alumni/paid side is disappointing, but the student section is the home field advantage this year. Vicious, menacing, loud, wild and rowdy. Like a college team student section. Totally impressive. Compared to last year, it's stunning.
-
Sure seemed like there was way more. Crowd was wild and loud. Whatever. 18K of wild die-hards is fine, then. Expect more at WKU and Middle Tennessee, especially after we beat AKState and Troy. Student section showed up. Not much on the alumni/paid side and the end zone. Student section is the Home Field Advantage this year, plain and simple.

We looked like a real football team, not a high school cupcake like we did with Dodge. Tough, smart, methodical and punishing. Thompson has arrived, folks. I am completely seeing this team making a huge turn around. This is a team that beat the CRAP out of Troy that we just manhandled. Defense knocked the crap out of these guys and embarrassed ULM. We win Troy and win WKU/MTSU (we'd better) and that's a bowl, my friends. GO MEAN GREEN!

I rushed the field at Indiana. That game was huge, tons of firsts, and a big win against a Big 10 school. Who cares if it's Homecoming? It's portraying the stereotype that we're small time. Rushing the field every game just proves us that we're a tiny FBS school. It's stupid for the fans to rush the field whenever we get a win over a pretty bad Sun Belt football team. This team will have LOTS of wins this season and the coming future. No need to rush it for every game. It deludes the experience of rushing the field FOR A GOOD WIN against a good team. Not ULM. Gatorade? Well, we won a good game in commanding fashion and appear to have turned the corner. Thompson looked GREAT. And I'm a HUGE critic. So did Dunbar. Defense is just incredibly surprisingly good. Coaching is making a team of these boys. I felt like this was a turn the corner game, and that we can win out. We played four quarters of physical, dominating football and looked like the VASTLY superior team. However, ULM fans...what a rude, bitter bunch of individuals. We heckled the crap out of their team, they were fine with it, but then their mascot decided to throw water on our fans. Wow. The fans were angry and spewing vitriol about how we're a worthless school. Yeah, they were at the game, and attendance was surprisingly great. Doesn't change the fact they're belittling our program and making us look smaller time than we already are.

I'm at every game in the student section front row at the 50...I rushed the field for Indiana. Convinced people not to rush it for FAU, but, come on, rushing the field for ULM? Freaking stupid.

I wouldn't say we suck at home.

When we get 22K for Homecoming, who's gonna feel like an idiot now?

Editorial: SMU poised to return to big-time college football

And yet you reference the two most harshly criticized college rankings. Read up on Forbes' reliance on money in their rankings and nothing else. And the US News and World Report's reliance on biased polling. I hope you do realize that US News and World Report is the website that has The Ohio State University (aka one of the worst schools academically and as far as careers after graduation) at #55 on the best universities in the country. Go back to your hole. Here's a few things to check up on for your reading: http://poetsandquants.com/2011/02/11/malcolm-gladwell-trashes-college-rankings/ http://www.yaledailynews.com/news/2011/mar/23/admissions-officers-question-rankings/ http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/answer-sheet/post/survey-college-admissions-counselors-wary-of-us-news-rankings/2011/05/19/AF86rL7G_blog.html http://www.nassp.org/Content.aspx?topic=56684 You should realize that The US News and World Report takes into consideration SAT, ACT, and scores of state sponsored standardized testing when judging. Is it a coincidence that the one ranking website that rates UNT highly is what most college admission officers and high school counselors listen to most? I think not. One last tidbit of information, Texas A&M has a higher acceptance rate than we do. Which is good for all the people who think UNT is a simple, vocational, "I didn't get into UT school." I picked UNT because I wanted to be a teacher. It's highly rated by what matters, and great in my field. -
There's a better chance of hell freezing over than Appalachian State moving to CUSA. They're shoehorned into the FCS because of their location, but if they do move, they'll take whoever will accept them. Last FCS-FBS school...Western Kentucky? Yeah, that worked out well.

Editorial: SMU poised to return to big-time college football

Their stadium is outdated. The second they built the thing it looked twenty years old. It's completely unimpressive, and has not been up kept well. Really? I don't see our football team writing angry columns into the Daily. We're also not 5-1 on the hinge of getting into an AQ conference. Say what you want about the Dickey years, if UNT was winning, we'd have 28K every game right now. Houston game proved this fan base is hankering for a winner. Ask anyone in Dallas about SMU's reputation. They have a horrible attitude and swagger. It's mostly people who go to SMU and their horrible attitude; self-righteousness, that gets them on the wrong side of people. They act like they are on the level of Rice or an Ivy League college, when SMU is purely a school flowing with plenty of money but on the same level as us. The D/FW metroplex has a way higher opinion of UNT grads than SMU grads. Hell, my first year at UNT I didn't even realize SMU was in the Metroplex. SMU is the most overrated school in Texas. Fact. I'd rather pay middle-level tuition for a mid-level college like UNT than pay upper-echelon tuition for a mid-level college like SMU. -
I'm too busy leading the student section in the "#14...You let the WHOLE team down!" to do such a prototypical chant like North..TEXAS!

What do we have to be jealous about? The horrible fan base? The run down stadium? The horrible SMU reputation in the Metroplex? -
Here's a simple answer: If you have tickets to the MG and tickets to the Rangers, go watch the Rangers play. If you have tickets to the MG and don't have tickets to the Rangers, go watch the MG play.
-
LOL, if Appalachian State moved to FBS it'd be in the Sun Belt, taking our spot; no way they'd jump over our heads to the CUSA. Especially with lackluster facilities and being in the middle of nowhere.
-
SMUt needs to cool their jets. They're getting into the Big East by default, they have no fan base, they have as little media penetration as we do and are, perhaps, the most overrated educational college in the state of Texas. I'd put us on an equal or better base there. Bible-thumping presbyterians can go somewhere else. *vent*
-
God, can you imagine what would happen if the game were on ESPN and they moved the time? UNT's horrible fickle fan base would die, probably.
-
I'm a Texans fan! This is such deja vu for me.
