The FINAL 2015 UNT Head Coaching POLL
bleedgreen4ever replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm just hoping it is one of these two guys and we don't go through some added embarrassment and up being informed that some obscure coach we never heard about is hired instead. Nothing would shock me since RV is involved.- 22 replies

MGB: Five thoughts following UNT's loss to UTEP
bleedgreen4ever replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Brett, one has to respect him for acting like an arrogant, defiant, and disrespectful child??? I'm sure you saw his latest act of disrespect on the field during his last play ever at UNT? That's all I saw from him "speaking his mind," which is being defiant, arrogant and disrespectful. I couldn't care less about his personality and arrogance as long as it's behind the scenes, but when he started dividing the team, publicly defying the fan base and putting coaches in a tough situation, he lost any respect I could have had for him in the past. Sad his attitude will remembered more than his performance on the field (which is what he could be respected for) but I am positive that will be the case after how he handled himself this season. -
Well, that's because SMUg fans don't show up to games in Denton. They're too afraid to leave their little bubble down in Dallas but if they did, they'd be worse than UH fans.
-
This sad young individual has LOTS of insecurities because of his small size and nurtured big ego (and who knows why else) that has taught him that if things don't go his way, he must fight back with a BIG attitude to show he's no pushover. Wish I could have invited him to train and spar with me at the gym I train and show him what discipline and respect is all about. Something his father utterly failed at teaching him because he is no better or knows any better. But now that he decided to end his UNT career this way, I couldn't care less about him and the repercussions he might encounter for his attitude out in the "real world." These are the types of players I wouldn't have a problem suspending and possible expelling from my program if I were a coach. This season Carlos Harris has done as much damage as he possibly could to this team and to this program, something that was not fully expected on my behalf. We're going to need a new coach that truly garners respect and instills discipline back into this program. NO MORE Carlos Harris-type players, please!!! And to note, he is NOT the only senior in this class who negatively contributed to this disgustingly embarrassing season.

I'm thinking Harry is confusing this with the G5 New Year's Day Six bowl game spot, which is also decided by the CFP committee.

North Texas Slips To 1-10 With 41-7 Loss To MTSU
bleedgreen4ever replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I'll take your UTEP tickets -
So I was curious about where UNT stands in terms of its Facebook page likes and it surprisingly does quite well. At 161k likes, in Texas we are only behind UT (600k), TAMU (500k), Texas Texas (200k) and just a thousand or so likes behind Baylor. That means we have more social media activity and support on Facebook than Houston, SMU, TCU, UTSA, UTEP, Texas St, Rice, etc, and many of these aren't close whatsoever. We are also steadily growing and we'll easily be in the top 4 soon. Nationally we are at #53. http://fanpagelist.com/category/organizations/colleges/view/list/sort/fans/page3 Regarding Twitter, the university has decided not to have a pure #UNT account and instead officially uses a #UNTnews account, which has 24k+ followers and still in front of some Texas schools but I suspect this increases considerably if the administration decided to have simple UNT account. Point being, UNT is capable of attracting a large following from its students and alumni base, better than many other schools comparable in size, if not larger. This can easily translate into athletics support if we decided to be proactive in merging our sports image with our emerging national branding campaign. We have a large supporting pool to draw from, so it becomes the AD's task to attract more of that support base by changing its culture and disconnect from its larger supportive base. Winning is essential, but also finding ways to engage more with alumni and students to participate, which is what has been very inconsistent under the leadership of RV and a few others. It kills me that we don't do enough to reach our true potential but I have hope we'll get there at some point if enough of us continue to demand "excellence."

New thread with a better title?
-
Perhaps we should have more threads about this or something to generate more traction. The other campaign to fly the banner raised money much more quickly. I think the billboard would be more effective than the banner but the combination of both even more, so let's try and make this happen.
-
Hoping the plane makes sure it's right above campus from 12:50-1:00 as that's when students are getting out of class and walking to their next class or back to their car/dorm.
-
I actually read that it was initially for 600k and RV was only able to negotiate an increase of 150k....so something tells me his negotiation skills are pretty bad since the deal was open for adjustments.
-
I know that, although I am not too sure Georgia even paid us a full million. Nevertheless, I did not say we never got paid that amount. I was referring to the fact that RV couldn't get us to an SEC school for 1+mil this year. Going to Tennessee for $750k is simply unacceptable and everybody knows that...and we all know RV has been progressively getting worse on the scheduling front.
-
We paid them (Portland St) 400k+ ... and yes, it is outrageous RV can't get an SEC team to pay us 1+ million...one of the MANY reason he needs to leave UNT.

2015 C-USA Soccer championship final UNT WINS!!!
bleedgreen4ever replied to outoftown's topic in Mean Green Football
UNT faces Texas Tech once again...would be great if they could avenge their loss and win a NCAA tourney game for first time in program history! -
Ok, let's take it easy here with the whole tier 1 and rankings issue. First of all, Rice is simply at another level academically in the conference yet that doesn't necessarily appeal to high-end prospects. Rice simply doesn't have the amount of support or internal interest it needs to become a TCU-like program. Moreover, many prospects can't even consider the school because they can't meet its academic standards. Secondly, the state of Texas is in a big state-wide effort to increase funding for its public universities to achieve "tier 1" status, whatever that really means. However, this means its quite harder and more competitive at the moment to achieve tier 1 status in Texas but UNT will get there sooner than later because it also means the state is ready to increase funding for institutions that are committed to research and "excellence." LA Tech is ranked #199 in a ranking prospects do look at which is nothing to really hang your hat on to a recruit prospect vs an unraked school that will soon get there...at this level, the prospect will look more closely at location and what academic programs the institution offers that they may be interested in and which institution has a stronger program. We have plenty of strong programs. Another huge appeal is athletic culture and reputation, we are lacking in both BUT we really have the fundamentals in place and the potential to really hit it "big" (top-end of the G5 programs) if things are changed around. A glimpse of this was evidenced during our HOD bowl game where we took close to 40k fans, and honestly, our AD did not do a great job in advertising for this bowl game. I know that this number would only increase with future local bowl appearances, especially if we get to play a bigger-named opponent. Regarding LA Tech, I support your school and athletic programs and have nothing against your institution. However, you also have some big obstacles (I think bigger than ours) if you want to really reach a different level of support and culture. Seriously, yesterday you probably had 800 fans in your stadium in a game you called your homecoming during a year that you're at the top of the conference, which is really indicative of the issues you face (no, rain isn't an excuse for such pathetic attendance). We both share similar obstacles, but it doesn't take away the fact that we are in a better location, have great size and academically we're fine and will be ranked "tier 1" soon. What we need is new leadership that'll bring in respectable and exciting opponents to Apogee and a new winning tradition in conference and the rest would unfold really, really nicely. So nice, we would be looked at by other conferences just like Houston has done for themselves. The question for us is...will that leadership ever take place? We just love to shoot ourselves in the foot as an institution but our potential is huge.

Lincoln Riley interviews for North Texas job
bleedgreen4ever replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Besides Fritz, Riley was my second favorite. Warming up to this idea, but this doesn't mean he'll end up being our HC. Remember it's still RV in the hiring-mix of things.- 67 replies

Fire Rick flyers on campus today.

Question: Did the banner ever fly before the game on Saturday? -
Let the damage continue, RV. After all, you'll just continue to claim credit for successes (i.e. facilities) that you know very well were a university-wide comprehensive effort, not an individual effort. How about all the broken promises? Where's the accountability? Very sad to see something with real potential being killed.
-
I don't see our women's soccer coach making up excuses on how hard it is to recruit talented players to North Texas. He instead developed the program into a consistent winner and built its solid reputation as North Texas=Attractive soccer destination in Texas.
-
What happened to him on Friday night? Chico's press conference mentions something tragic happened before the game.
-
If we could actually get Fritz before another school higher up in the ranks, I think it would be one of the best hires RV could ever hope to make. Fritz also has TX HS ties on top of his proven winning record. However, RV will probably not even go after him the way he should and yet again miss a valuable opportunity.

A look at 6 potential candidates for UNT's vacancy
bleedgreen4ever replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Why isn't Willie Fritz on this list?!?! We should be really hoping we get him because he really has the experience (FCS & FBS) and proven success record (FCS & FBS)...plus TX HS ties...to help build this program the right way. He is the most realistic/best option for us, hands down! More of us should be mentioning his name more often. No idea why BV isn't mentioning him. -
Will we be able to win at least one game?
bleedgreen4ever replied to bleedgreen4ever's topic in Mean Green Football
WKU hasn't yet played Marshal. Last weekend they played MTSU who so far has only beaten Charlotte and Jackson St. We actually might end up playing a competitive game against MTSU and wouldn't be incredibly shocked if we beat them, although I know it's a stretch at this point. -
5. RV still needs to and will always need to go. Period. He's time is up for good...permanently.
