  1. Uhmmm, excuse me, but if they get UNT and ULL, it won't be much weaker than the SB. The SB conference has for the most part been looked at as the worse conference in FBS for most of its existence. The WAC hasn't. Now, IF the SB can indeed cherry-pick the WAC, then so be it. However, that's exactly what the WAC is trying to do. They have a better overall reputation than the SB, even though they are dying out, I think they'll be able to regroup. The SB may end up being the conference that ceases to exist in the FBS. Take out FIU and MTSU for a CUSA/MWC. Take out UNT/ULL for the WAC. You're left with a declining Troy and an ASU desperately trying to get out of the conference. Texas State is joining the WAC, at least we'd have a good in-state rivalry. I don't see anything good or better about being in the SB. It has done nothing for NT.
  2. Well, excuses are excuses. Remember the University of Miami and how coach Schnellenberger absolutely turned around that program against all odds in one year to a national champion??? I agree Iowa State is different and they were going against tough odds, but 5 years is an eternity in football terms. I am not discrediting what he did though and that he is a good coach in relative terms. However, NT fans idolize him at times and I haven't seen any proof yet of him being THE guy to change the losing tradition we have instilled in our players. Maybe he can't and is waiting for the guys he recruited, which in my mind, is the absolute wrong approach and I hope that's not the case. He needs to prove that he can change the current player's losing mentality and show he can lead them on to finish off games. It seems like we are afraid to finish off games and that doesn't really give any sense of comfort with this team and coaching staff. If ULL can do it, why can't we? I believe coach Mac once said "Why not North Texas?"....well...why not Coach Mac? I'm giving him time, but I can't say I'm too pleased the way things are going right now.
  3. Plus our defense needs much improvement as well. Although it is the better half of the team at the moment...doesn't mean its a good defense.
  4. Not if you can't score.
  5. Our defense sucks though...and yes, we want a team that is respectable on both sides. Hoping coach Mac accomplishes this in the next couple of years or else we BETTER be PROTESTING.
  6. I haven't seen much hate around the internet. Where is this hate you speak of coming from? What is wrong with complaining about a losing program that can clearly be better if better play calls are made? This team could be 4-3 this season if certain realistic things had been changed during play time. Fans should expect more from their team and should stick with them even through tough times, but expect more nonetheless. By the way, did you mean to say mean green fans complain "a lot"?
  7. Yeah our offense sucks balls and needs to improve greatly. However, why do we think we have a good defense? We are improving on defense but we still SUCK. Look at how WIDE open those WR were from UL for two of their touchdowns. We don't have coverage and of course teams are going to make big plays against our defense if they have a decent offense. The team as a whole just sucks and I really hope the new recruits show improvement next year. I like coach Mac but we have to keep everyone accountable if the program doesn't get better next year. Look at UL and what they have done with a new coach this year...
  8. We just need to reach our goal of becoming a Tier 1 research institution. We get that recognition and funding and everything academically speaking will improve and compete with any other university, including UT. We are on that path, but it's going to take time.
  9. Keep bringing up winning. Well, we had a winning record in the early 2000s and never came close to having so many fans show up for games. We will have to become a winning program in a major conference before that really makes a difference. We forget that there isn't much to do in Lafayette other than go and watch this game. Being in the DFW is only good for the TV market and recruits, everything else goes against us.
  10. It's all disciplines across the board, and research funding, becoming a tier 1 research institution (which is our goal) and getting competitive and prestigious scholarships for students, ie Rhodes Scholars. It's a myriad of things. The music strength will only add to all that once we have those things in place and can become more competitive academically. We're doing the right things and it just takes time.
  11. I suppose I'm talking Chinese here? I never said SMU wouldn't benefit. I'll say it again. I don't think SMU will benefit so greatly that it will ruin our chances to do well at all in the CUSA, due to ruining our recruiting, etc. As was suggested earlier...again, that doesn't mean SMU won't benefit from the move, it's obvious they would!
  12. Yet I never said that the Big East is not better than CUSA. It's just not strong enough for it to benefit SMU so much that if we join CUSA, we won't feel its benefits. Something like this was suggested earlier.
  13. Easy there. Perhaps you didn't even read everything the right way. Someone suggested that SMU going to the Big East would hurt us even if we went to CUSA because of it being a major conference. I don't believe the Big East is that much of amajor conference to benefit SMU so much that joining CUSA won't end up benefiting us. I don't think the Big East has helped programs as much as CUSA has done, in RELATE terms, of course CUSA won't get you into high rankings and BCS bowls. I never said it's just as good, don't put words in my mouth.
  14. About the edit. Someone earlier said it started 108 years ago, and UNT started before then. But, if that's wrong, I wouldn't know because I know very little about baseball.
  15. I'm not saying otherwise. However, I found the argument made earlier about paying tuition fees and having devoted a long time to your alma mater as a good basis of choosing his alma mater over professional sports. However, I understand ppl wanting to watch a world series, which doesn't happen often at all for the Rangers, and if you're a baseball fan, go for it. However, don't end up complaining about attendance or not enough support at games. I have a solution though, buy a portable satellite tv and watch the series from Apogee.
  16. Why not get a portable satellite TV and watch it from Apogee Stadium?
  17. Your Alma Mater has more tradition than the World Series. UNT began 121 years ago. Sports were played at UNT since it's inception, a formal football program and other sports didn't develop years later, but that doesn't mean there wasn't tradition already in place.
  18. lol our chance is way greater than what the video suggests. never seen that movie though!
  19. They did have a heck of a team before going to the Big East. And of course joining an AQ conference will help your ranking and recruits!!! That's not my point! The Big East has not solved USF's problems, sorry. Beating Notre Dame?? I forgot that's SUCH a huge accomplishment....Tulsa beat them last year. Are they in the Big East? As a whole, I don't see the Big East being SUCH an overwhelming benefit for SMU that we're doomed even if get into CUSA. We'll improve greatly and be able to start competing against AQ conference teams if we're in CUSA. That's the whole point of this conversation. Not about how good or bad the Big East is.
  20. Louisville was already ridiculously strong before entering the Big East...reason why the got into the Big East. Now look at them. USF was also dominating before entering the Big East. I'm not saying it doesn't help its teams at all...an AQ conference is an AQ conference, but it's not much better than CUSA or MWC. Plus, its image is consistently being ridiculed and undermined. I've seen teams make remarkable strides in CUSA and MWC for that matter.
  21. Amazingly said, sir. It's you're ALMA MATER!!! You're nourishing mother!!! How can someone not be loyal to it!!!
  22. What has the BigEast done for USF or Louisville? I doubt SMU will benefit all that much from being in the Big East. I think the most improved team in the area would be us for sure if we get into CUSA. Plus, it beats being in CUSA as the only non-AQ team in the area than being in the SB as the only non-AQ team in the area. Even if SMU doesn't accept the invitation (which I'm positive they will), they'll eventually join a major conference and it'll be the same issue. The CUSA has done a lot for several programs (UH, UCF, Tulsa, SMU, etc), and I'm sure it will help us a lot as well.
