It's a combination of everything. Marketing merchandise is also a part of it. Reason why U of M changed their logo to "the U." They sold a lot of merchandise that way. Of course donors and season ticket holders are another big part of it. TV contracts, conference splits, bowl games, student fees (big one that isn't mentioned), etc. Anyway, it's a bit of everything, and we can't really say which one exactly brings in the MOST revenue because I am not sure we have access to any of these schools' bank accounts.

Mountain West, Conference USA merger could benefit UTSA
bleedgreen4ever replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
Heck, so what if UTSA is invited? They have something special going on and we have lots of things to fight against to get some attention in the DFW. If it means that we also get into CUSA, welcome aboard UTSA! If we don't and UTSA does get the invitation...well, damn, I don't know what to say. -
I just thought I'd post this topic as a quasi-attendance-gatherer-competition. In other words, I want know how many people are YOU brining to the homecoming game? We are brining over 50 new people from different places to our tailgate and a good number of them will go to the game. I've done my part, my number is 50. What's yours?

Unbelievable- Benson Still Talking UNT/ULL
bleedgreen4ever replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Ok, well since I didn't and the reply was directed toward my comment, yes, I didn't understand. And yeah, I wouldn't say that the WAC is the same as the MWC. Not a chance. -
I'm tired of hearing this. Just take a darn look at ULL. There's your answer. Coach Mac will turn things around eventually, but that doesn't mean he couldn't have done better so far this year.

LOL what??? When did I talk about the MWC not being better than the WAC? -
So I'm guessing ULL's talent was MUCH better than ours as well?

Some of it sounded good though, lol. Why not reach for the stars? Why not NT?

Unbelievable- Benson Still Talking UNT/ULL
bleedgreen4ever replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
First of all, I did not grow up in Flower Mound, and I started attending UNT way before 2007. Nice try though. Second of all, I am fully aware of the bad athletic situation in the 90's. The SB was a fine conference to start up with in the 2000s, but it is not our savior and it is not the reason why, we, as an institution, decided to improve our athletics. Realize that this athletic turnaround has to do with the school's overall master plan, with an ultimate goal of becoming a tier 1 public research institution and national recognition leads to that, along with money to increase our endowment and research initiatives. If it wasn't for that, you could have forgotten about this school ever paying any attention to it's athletics. The SB can't be credited for the leaps the university has made, sorry. In that case, lets credit the WAC for forming such a potent Boise St football program, and good Nevada and Fresno State programs (all far superior to any SB team). -
We can't "hire" players. Unless we want to become "that" team. I rather us being bad and ethical than us being another SMU from the 80s. But yes, we really should be a much better program and have regressed so much over the years, it's pathetic.

Unbelievable- Benson Still Talking UNT/ULL

I disagree. Just because we have been having good runs in other sports in the Belt, doesn't mean the conference itself has "saved" us. In football, which dictates everything for the most part, the SB hasn't helped us. In basketball, it's our coach who has strengthened the program, not the belt. Why hasn't any team in 10 years still not moved out of the belt? I doubt it's because they all enjoy being in the belt so much because it's such a prestigious conference. The WAC is tough to know whether it will survive and get stronger or die out. If we join along with a couple other FBS teams, then it will become stronger than the Belt. Thing is, should we take the risk? Sometimes you have to take risks. What we really want, of course, is to get an invitation from CUSA/MWC, and therefore not have this unnecessary debate. -

Uhmmm.....please do tell how being in the SB made us get better facilities and fiscal expenditures??? We have taken those initiatives on our own in order to get the heck out of the SB. And did I ever say that having TSU makes it a BETTER conference? I was talking about the potential in-state rivalry benefit. Something the belt never offered. ULL could have a better rivalry with LATech than with ULM. I don't follow your logic on how on earth the Belt is benefiting us. -
UH'er Said This of B.E.Team UNT Beat In Bowl Game...
bleedgreen4ever replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Hopefully this new coaching staff is able to turn the table. We can't wait around for years for it to change like we did with Dodge though. I doubt that would happen, but if so, we need to have higher expectations and accountability. -

Goes to show how much we have regressed. It really makes me sad to think where we could have been today if we hadn't made such an idiotic experiment with a HS coach. -

Off topic: Cinci wasn't in the big east when we beat them, was it? -
All of this is irrelevant when you play a WINNABLE game and blow your chances because your team forgets to show up during the last 15 minutes of the game. I'm sure coach Mac is going to turn things around, but he needs to teach this team that they CAN win in the present. Coach to win always, not just to win for the future.
-
We are getting 50+ people to go...well, to our tailgate. I hope more than half of them enter the stadium. Still, that's a bunch of people we're getting. My support is obviously unconditional in that regard, however, I was discontent with the coaching staff and team yesterday after a very winnable game. Hope we can correct important issues and beat a pretty strong ULM team that embarrassed Troy.

We can still do better attendance-wise. Regardless of what anyone says. That being said, I'd be happy if we average something above 20k, but I'm having doubts we will. Anyway, CF is controlled by money, and higher attendance helps generate money. Therefore, we need to FREAKING WIN games to help attendance and get the student body more optimistic about their team and wanting to go to games. -
While I agree that it's important to support your school if you're a fan, you have the wrong idea of what being a fan entails. You mention that we should shut our mouth unless it is in support of the team??? Give me a break. Most fans that criticize the program are doing so because they WANT the program to get better. Where on earth are you going to find a team being constantly supported and not criticized by its fans if it absolutely stinks??? We're all trying to see this team win, and until that starts happening constantly, most of us will be discontent with the team. Period. That doesn't mean I don't support it and don't go to the games. The people who deliberately cut off the team aren't true fans, I agree with you in that regard.
-
Wow. You have a defeated mentality, which has permeated into many NT fans. This mentality pitiful, I think. I can assure you that those two games we had no idea how to kill the game when it should have been done, and it translated into yesterday's horrible 4th quarter performance. A team will never be able to win consistently if it doesn't know how to play in the 4th quarter. We got lucky we won those two games. Might sound harsh, but that's exactly the type of mentality this program needs in order to start learning how to truly win. Yesterday's game was completely winnable.
-
Right, I'm sure it was. ULL's 6 game winning streak was also incredibly unrealistic. We aren't building a team inside the SEC or Big12. While I don't expect to win the Sun Belt this year, I fully expect this team to quit killing their chances in winnable games. It becomes customary and inherent within a team and it needs to be corrected this season. No excuses. We're not trying to build the next national champion here, we're trying to beat SUN BELT teams. There is nothing incredibly unrealistic about fans seeing potential in the team being competitive in the belt, nothing.
-
Sure, he may turn around the program in a year or two. He may, he may, he may. We'll see about that. However, I'm tired of hearing excuses when we are unable to finish off winnable games or when we have dominated a game and given up comfortable leads in the fourth quarter. Plus, certain play calls that some fans complain about are completely understandable. Most of us are tired of hearing excuses, I believe. I sure am. I sure expect this program to have a winning season next year. This season, we better start learning how to close off winnable games so it can transfer to next season.
-
I am sorry, but quit putting up excuses. ULL was also terrible in the past and picked behind us in the preseason polls. Look what their coach has done to a losing team in his first year. There is no excuse for us to lose winnable games like this, especially the way we do. So many stupid mistakes and questionable play calls and not being able to finish off a game IS reason to demand the program to step up now. I'm sick and tired of hearing excuses and accepting losing. How much we let Dodge damage our image is beyond mind blowing, let's not continue this tradition anymore. I fully expect this team to quickly learn how to finish off winnable games.
-
Exactly. I am utterly sick of hearing fans talk about "rebuilding." You can't lose and allude everything to rebuilding. ULL is a perfect example of how it IS possible for a team in the belt to completely change a program quickly. Coach Mac needs to be able to teach these guys how to finish off games because they have no idea how to play 4 quarters of football. If can't do that, I'm not sure he's the right guy for this program. Sorry to say, but there are no excuses for us losing so much, especially in winnable games. We aren't trying to rebuild a program competing against the OU's, Alabamas, A&M's, etc.
-
I just did and, honestly, I didn't see much whining about us losing on espn.com. Again, where is alll this whining and annoying commentary coming from? Like I said, NOTHING wrong about UNT fans feeling sick of losing games we can clearly win. We have to expect more from our team and coaches until we start finishing off winnable games.
