  1. North Texas is in the driver's seat in the race to get a commitment from Tre Betts. "They offered back in May," Betts said. "On July 26 I went to their camp and liked the atmosphere there. I had been liking North Texas since they first started recruiting me. "Their coaching staff is old school, which would fit me well. I liked everything about the campus - the dorms and practice field. Also my family and friends won't have to travel far to watch me if I go to North Texas because I'll be right there." Betts added more details about his relationship with the Mean Green's staff. "Coach (Noah) Joseph and I talk every three days," he said. "I really like that. North Texas is out in front by themselves, but I don't know when I'll make my decision because I want to make sure it's the right one. "I might wait it out until the season's over...I'll commit when it feels right." http://recruiting.scout.com/2/1314624.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
  2. True, but even if he gets a late "big" offer, I honestly don't think he'll get enough playing time (at least not at the beginning) and no school will treat him and develop him like UNT. Our coaching staff is very hands-on and if you have talent, you'll love playing for the Mean Green! You'll definitely feel special here, especially if you can be part of a team that turns a program around. Moreover, UNT is a very solid and comprehensive academic school with plenty of resources to succeed. To me it'd be a no-brainer!
  3. But three schools are standing out "I'm definitely looking at UNT because they have a great coaching staff," Washington said. "Their staff is really trying to turn things around there, and I think it would be great to play for a program like that because I'm trying to be the best football player I can be. http://www.nationalunderclassmen.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=23100&ATCLID=208985260
  4. This would be a good get. Add him and Christian Beard and Xavier Washington (who are both interested in committing) and we'll start to see a very good looking recruiting class.
  5. Wonder why he hasn't gotten many other offers...
  6. Christian Bear, Xavier Washington...the Mean Green Nation is anxious to greet you home! Also waiting for more quality recruits to follow suit after these two! Let's get it!
  7. "My cousin just got a full ride for baseball to north Texas university ☺ I'm so proud of him." I am confused...? Or she must be confused...?
  8. "I could spend several paragraphs telling you about last year's 3-9 team..." Can't even get our record right -- what makes anyone think he even remotely knows how our team will play this season?
  9. I am pretty confident we will land this recruit. Hopefully I am right and it helps us keep our strong momentum going! I am also hoping we get DT D.J. Williams from Lufkin as that would really start setting this class apart as something special. For now, I hope Mr. Beard's prospect materializes into a serious commitment and that we continue filling up our spots with other strong recruits. GMG!
  10. Houston did offer him and that is a fact. Let's not dispute the facts, please. Last night he actually received his 13th DI offer, so it's natural to be excited to have a guy like him choose NT. He also had offers from Harvard, Yale and UPenn and is excited to choose UNT in part because of its strong academics. Says something about our institution and the emphasis on academics recently. Not sure how Houston compares, but your opinion is irrelevant because I haven't seen any of your recruits in similar positions making those comments. In fact, another one of our recruits also had offers from multiple Ivy league schools and chose UNT and said academics was a strong part of his decision as well. Nobody ever said anything about comparing both recruiting classes up to this point. So your chest pounding tactics are irrelevant and quite pretentious. Recruiting-wise, it all comes down to coaching once the talent level is decent enough to be able to compete at a high level, but most of us agree that we have more work to do (consistently) on the recruiting front -- important part is we're improving without a doubt.
  11. Coaches have a lot to do with it and the facilities, but I also think CUSA affiliation is starting to help in recruiting as well. It is a confluence of factors coming together and if we add a strong winning season this year, the sky is the limit for the future. As many know, it is now mainly up to winning to start unveiling our huge potential. As for academics, I think slowly UNT is starting to change its reputation, which I think is apparent with how some of these new recruits think highly of UNT as an academic institution. Mind these are recruits with top Ivy-league offers. We'll benefit not only from good athletes but also from smart and intelligent student athletes as great ambassadors. I like the impetus the 2014 recruiting class is garnering for the future. Let's keep doing our part and get other people excited about UNT!
  12. I must admit, I am not sure I do. He just got an offer from ND and that has him re-thinking some of this top previous choices. If some people convince him on UNT, then this 2014 class will start to look as one of the best recruiting classes in a very long time. Let's hope for more momentum coming our way.

ALL signs point the other way, but I've had a gut feeling on this game for 2 years. @ UTEP: W - backup aggy QB doesn't overly concern me; we've faced some talented slingers. Will still be a tough-fought game in all facets. vs Houston: L - I think this game and the UTEP game are both 50-50. I wrote an L here, but I'm calling at least one win between the two. @ Marshall: L - Cato > UTEP QB. And Marshall in general is just more talented than us overall. I think Marshall is this year's San Jose State. vs Rice: L - I would love to call a win here, except I think Rice is the real deal. Sounds funny to say. vs UAB: W - only because it's @ home and homecoming. I don't think the score will be close, per se, but I would actually have this as a road loss. @ Tulsa: L - IMO Tulsa may not even be the best team in the division for 2013, but they know how to win. This will be a long shot for us. vs Tulane: W - I think Vegas will actually have us favored here. We'll see. @ UNT: L - this or UAB is our WTF loss of the year. I believe we are legitimately better, but I think they may put us on our heels a bit. If so, our fans will rage. vs La Tech: W - I think La Tech finishes ahead of us in the west, but we have their number. We can beat them. Kenneth Dixon is OP though. 6-6 I do not want to lose to this pile of shit school!" Wow guys, and I read several other comments comparable to this one about us on their board. Are some UTSA students/fans like these folks really that delusional? They must be either completely ignorant or simply have some sort of jealousy issues toward our university. Regardless, I don't hold absolutely anything against UTSA, but these "fans" are simply foolish. Now I understand why many on this board want our football team to completely humiliate this team at Apogee and in the future. For the sake of shutting up these fools, I am all for that trend to commence this year.
  14. The new C-USA is still better than the old Sun Belt. The teams that made the transfer from the Sun Belt were some of the better schools with more promise in the conference and the new schools in the new C-USA show a lot more promise than some of the former Sun Belt mates. So, it's still a good move for UNT, regardless of how ideal it may not be.
  15. maybe I was playing along, maybe
  16. My guess is he will be at around 300-305 lbs by the time the season starts. The webpage should say 297, not 197. No OL has lost close to 100 lbs in a year in this team. He's been gaining some muscle weight since recruited.
  17. I've met Connor and there is no way he is 197. Absolutely no way. My guess would be it's a typo and he's actually around 297.
  18. Some of you may know already, but he is already enrolled at UNT. My girlfriend works for the UNT Accounting and Cashiering Services department and made him his ID. She told me she made an ID for this guy who "was built like a football player who transferred from Oregon"...so I asked her his name, and she said "Anthony Wallace."
  19. I believe UNT has a great chance of being a contender from the beginning.
  20. Seriously though. Let's prepare a systematic campaign to get rid of at least TB. RV should go too but first we need to take care of TB and as fans, the Athletic Dept and University really needs to consider our voice because a lot of us do donate to the program and put up with this kind of nonsense.
  21. Right on. Of course the money is there to get a new HC and AD. Ask Lee Jackson and easy it is for him to "replace" Presidents.
  22. Stupid comment.
  23. Didn't know you were such an expert in collegiate athletic management. Clearly you understand how things work. Bravo, we need more people like you running things in good 'ol Denton.
  24. President Rawlins is retiring...good time to get a new AD along with a new President, and while we are at it, of course, a new MBB HC.
