We pack the box and entirely shut down their run game, and while they get a decent amount of passes on us, we also create enough hurries to have 2 interceptions (maybe 1 even a pick6,, still waiting for that), which is just enough to eek out a W. Also, we make a trend out of our last (and only really good) special teams game and have a real good effort there again. NT - 27 MUTS 17

Mitchell named Preseason SBC POY, polls
outoftown replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I really think there are several players that should be first or second team... Well... i guess they don't share our opinion about how deep this team is... they will not even see what hit em I guess, when they realize Tony is taking a 15 minute nap on the bench in the second half, and the remaining team is still running circles around them -
Hmmm I just stumbld over this article which lists loads of "secret srimmages"... but none for NT. are we having this kind of thing? seems advantageous to me to have a real test before the season starts of with a bang.

Idaho To Announce 2013 Schedule Today.
outoftown replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
On their board some are dreaming of Petrino ... so they evidently don't care about how coaches left their old place -
well what that means is that more people are betting on MUTS, not that Vegas really belives they will win... I am just starting to think whether I want to bet on this sprea... then again I will probably just take NT straight up

UNT's Zach Orr wins SBC Defensive Player of the Week
outoftown replied to GreenBat's topic in Mean Green Football
Nice... and deserved -
I have a question though: does texas southern have 90% of it's 63 scholarships over the last two years??? ... i thought they were hit with penalties.

You can only count one FCS win... unless there are not enough eligible bowl teams (a possibility this year), then among the first teams to get in after those are 6-6 teams with 2 wins over FCS from http://www.al.com/sp...ligibility.html

outch... i guess celebration here was a bit premature.... well.... as long as they take the tourney it don't matter

Idaho To Announce 2013 Schedule Today.
outoftown replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
You know it is the onlyy two teams that did not get out of the WAC until it was gone, so this is basically for the conference title: first game is for the regular season title, best two teams advance to the conference championship game. The winner of the second one is conference champion.... ...despite making fun of this I do feel somewhat sad for those teams and how they got left out in the cold.... yet a move to FCS might just have been wiser and more realistic, particularly for Idaho. on the bright side, as someone said before: chalk p a home win next season. If texas southern tought us something: that kind of game is great for the casual fan enthousiasm Also looking at the schedule: I think it was easier to put it together because they are so bad this year, and everybody sees them as an opponent of FCS quality that counts hands down for bowl eligibility -
North Texas Odds to Make it to Bowl
outoftown replied to All About UNT's topic in Mean Green Football
I do think that underestimates our chances somewhat. Also, our chances to actually get a bowl if we go 6-6 are quite ok. The more bowl ineligible teams like Ohio state, Penn state UNC (and I think the jury is still out on UCF) win, the more they drown bowl eligibilty out of their conferences, that leaves bowl bids for teams like UNT. Right now these teams are all doing ok to very well. It is not for nothing that the NCAA made up rules this summer for how to proceed if there are not enough bowl eligible teams. -
By some of yalls reactions I gather most of yall are not familiar with "every day should be saturday" and their weekly "bye week buddies stories...... sorry for the confusion. ahhh well the thread got kidnapped anyway, so i guess it is all for the best
-
Thanks... our team will certainly try. Hope ya'll win out from here.

Technically we had a bye week last week.... so coach Mac appears prominently in this weeks "Bye week buddies" on EDSBS http://www.everydayshouldbesaturday.com/2012/10/18/3519394/bye-week-buddies-week-7

I also think 3-2 is very visible for the rest: MTSUs loss of Benny Cunningham is huge. Without that i would be think this is 50-50 on the road. But we have not yet had real bad luck on injuries this season (thinking of an DT/Chancellor/Orr injury makes me cringe). But Cunningham beat Georgia tech basically by hmself, and without him they are a very pedestrian team, that I think we ought to beat. USA has to be win. and A state at apogee also has a good chance of being a W. And if we really should botch one of these 3 I think we may be dogs, but dogs with a fair shot at ULM and W-Kentucky.

Sooo are we still against coach Mac's rush heavy offense?
outoftown replied to D-ry's topic in Mean Green Football
I think it depends.... I understand us running the ball a boatload early and when we are even or ahead late, and when the situation makes sense. That said, 3 runs up the middle 2 yards from our own endzone? The only reason we call that smart, is because it worked out this time. To me it was a gamble with the same risk as passing, and lower reward. But like I said, having a lot of running to generally keep the defense off the field is not generally a bad thing. -
I agree, Atterbury deserves at least a mention.... was very good punting and very important in this game
-
I voted for Delgado, who bailed us out on several and longs particularly that 3rd and 8 in the 4th.... but Jimmerson is verrrrry deserving too. Personally I thought Canales callled a good game, but not that outstanding that it deserves MVP.... ...after all the offense also totally failed to work during the first 2 quarters, and I am still not convinced it was a good idea to run it up the middle 3 times backed in within our 2 yard line

about 3 weeks ago I said that coach Riddle was in my mind 1 bad game away from getting fired. Now this sure was the best game by special teams we had this season. Looking at how bad it had been, this is quite a turnaround. We actually won the ST battle I think. They shanked a PAT and had a muffed Punt. Ok then they also had those punts super close to our goal line. But at least we did not give a big one up and made all our (adimittedly close) FGs, and had pretty darn good punts ourself. This improved performance was absolutely critical in this game. Congrats to the team

MTSU loses RB Benny Cunningham for the year
outoftown replied to NT03's topic in Mean Green Football
That is a major break for our game against them. He was a total stud. Beat Georgia tech basicly by himself. He was to their offense what Dunbar was to ours last year. That game looks very winnable to me right now -
And now for some good news...Lance Dunbar
