I think you are pretty correct. I would not say no matter what the record, but that at 2 wins he is safe. and with 4 in 2014 might indeed still get 2015. Particularly because everyone (including RV I think) can see that we will probably have to spend money on a benford buyout in march 2014. But if we were to go USM-like 0-12 (extremely unlikely) RV might just think that Football is more important than Basketball.

These numbers must be painful to everyone having made that move from texas (i.e. houston and SMU). I mean traveling costs for that league are clearly above what they were for C-USA, not sure that all comes back in at only 2 million a year.

I appreciate what you say and there is a point to that... at the same time the risk does not only come from his quality of play. It is not a coincidence that last year we finally had a QB upright for 12 games, improved OL play sure helped there. That said BB is supposed to run the ball more himself, which inproves chances of him getting hurt a bit again. In general I think if we stay healthy we have every chance at a good season (5-8 wins). But I also think we are between 1 and 3 injuries away from the season imploding. Take out BB/DT and Chancellor, and then whoever is the one player we don't know yet that does step up on WR and we are done.

We have 8 (!) DL guys coming out of their redshirt year. I have a hard time believing our depth there will not improve and given that fact can't quite see how you came up with the argument that the coaching staff had no clue where it's DLine would stand. Also I do think our D as a whole did not regress last year despite loosing pretty much evey DB and am pretty sure it will be even better this year. D in general has gotten much better since coach Mac has come to Denton. I see much more stagnation (at best) on Offense, and frankly outside of the OL -which is already not the problem- few impact players being brought in. We are betting the house on Berglund... that might work out but seems a risky gamble to me. What is worse: we brought in preciously few good WRs in pretty much any of the classes since Mac came in, so even with a good QB we may be seeing less of an improvement than some seem to predict.

Hmmm wasn't Syd Moore a pickup we made a lot more easily because other programs backed off because his academic eligibilty is not certain?

I was wondering: can someone project how it will all work out recruiting wise sin 2014 and 2015. what are the chances we will keep being at 85?... particularly if about 2 original HS players per class leave for their very own personal reasons or because they were encouraged to do so
-
That is a lot of D lineman coming in and looking for playing time, and all should have physically matured one year. Of this don't help depth on the D-line then I don't know what does

Right now I don't think we should try to pick anyone up. I guess they might be in the discussion for 2014 if Tulsa leaves, but I am not sure I would particularly like it even then. I do think C-USA actually hurt it self by reloading too quickly.

dude, you got no clue whatsoever.... RV made a bad hire and got someone who cut the wire instead of plugging it in -
And here is the answer: he signed

Taking an early stab at a prediction on UTSA football
outoftown replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
In your logic there was pretty much no chance UNT would have beaten the university of Louisiana which went 9-4 including a bowl win.... yet UNT did. UTSA has no comparable win on last years resume. Enough of this "discussion". -
Well CFN does preseaseason rankings since 2010 from what I can see.... funily enough in all 3 years we were outside the top 100 before the season and inside it in their final ranking, this year -by their own admission-we get almost everyone back from what they ranked team number 88 after last season, yet they push our preseason ranking below the one they gave for the last Dodge season. I'd be mildly amused if it were not for the fact that this kind of thing fosters perceptions that are unhelpfull during recruiting

I would commisserate with you about how bad it is and how benford needs to go... alas i stopped watching the games and thus I only have an idea coming from the box scores about how bad it is. Still RV has to do something, and I fear firing the assistants will not do the trick
-
I wish i could complain about how bad Benford sucks, how much this team is underachieving and how much time it steals from me.... alas I gave up watching and listening about this team a month ago, and just watch the Final results (this one hurt even if you limit yourself to only that). I decided to give up on the regular season and only watch the tournament. We are lucky the sunbelt lets all teams play in the tournament. imagine if they'd say only the best 8 make it, we would have to sweat it!

with Harry?!!! nice. particularly as they did not do too many podcasts other than the after game podcasts this season

hmmm....I would have expected an AD to know that you have to send these kind of things on your private phone in order not to be exposed later on by a freedom of information act request. This might come to bite less the AD than Aresco.

2012 still had mainly Dodge's personnel footprint
outoftown replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I think Dodges problem was not primarily recruiting.... it was getting the right things out of the recruits that was the problem. I am not sure Macs recruits have more talent than Dodges. But Dodges recruits certainly got trained and used to different system and had less time to get adjusted to/devlop under the full Mac system. Also it seems to me we have been redshirting more lately, which should bring advantages down the line, and that line is only starting to come up now. -
I was about to start complaining... call me conservative, but I can't take this rampant optimism any longer. I don't even recognize this board no more. People need to bring the gloom back, because you know: the university of north texas, and particularly its athletic department is doomed... DOOMED I tell ya!!! Nobody will come and watch all these new "local" (another word for people who just havent gotten around enough) opponents! None of these late hyped 3 star recruits will work out (they are all just pampered brats looking for a free ride anyway)! Coach Mac will take lessons from Coach Benford in the offseason (because there are several months were it is neither football nor Basketball season, and you gotta keep up to date) ! We will loose every game by 3 touchdowns or more (everyone is overhyped, the refs in C-USA will hate us)! C-USA will disband before we even play a game! If the team ever gets good it will be broken down by Injuries! If the team should win anyway a thunderstorm will make sure noone will get to see it at the Stadium! ...so everyone please go back to expecting the worst. After all, the point of being a NT fan -even more the point of being on this board - is to learn patience and and to keep trying in the face of lasting adversity, as well as the correct deployment of the sentence " there is always next year".

Sun Belt football will play 7-game schedule in 2012
outoftown replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Had heard something like that too. That is why I am actually surprised that FAU and MTSU still had to pay 700 000$ to exit. A home and home with Mizzou would of course be great news for AState. Others will probably just be happy to pick up another paycheck in addition to their share of the exit fees.
